If watching the swashbuckling series of Poldark has made you fall in love with all

things Cornish, then you may be considering a trip down to the South West during the

summer to see some of the stunning Poldark filming locations for yourself. This latest

adaptation of the Winston Graham novel, himself a former resident of Cornwall, has

thrilled viewers with its sweeping tale of romance, shipwrecks and tin mining; and

we’re sure that eager fans are going to make their way in droves to see the places where

the novel was brought to life, for both this series starring the gorgeous Aidan Turner,

and the original 1970s series starring Robin Ellis.

Perhaps one of the most spectacular Poldark filming locations is that of Botallack Mine,

situated between the town of St Just in Penwith and the village of Pendeen, which

doubled as the mine in the popular BBC adaptation. The mine’s engine houses were

built during the mid-1800s when the Cornish mining boom was at its peak. Perched

precariously high up on the cliff edge, overlooking the sea, they offer one of the most

iconic and breath-taking landscapes of the series, and give a taste of the perilous and

dangerous situations faced by the Poldark characters as they went about their daily

business.

If one of your favourite scenes is the one where Demelza spies on Ross as he takes his

usual morning swim, then a visit to the coastal area of St Levan is a must. Here you’ll

find Porthgarra, a tiny unspoilt cove near to Nampara, the setting for Ross’s house. It’s

also the place where Ross aids an escape and where the pilchard catch was filmed. St

Agnes Head doubles for the Nampara Valley, and is close to the former home of the

author Winston Graham. One of the most beautiful and most photographed areas in

Cornwall, it’s one place that shouldn’t be missed from your Poldark Tour.

A visit to Charlestown should also be on the agenda as it’s the place used to represent

Poldark’s city of Truro. With its Grade II listed harbour and original tall ships, you will

be forgiven for thinking that you’ve stepped back in time as you take in some authentic

18th century atmosphere.

Although Cornwall’s dramatic coastline does feature very heavily in the series, the wild

and rugged Bodmin Moor also makes an appearance in the series for several important

scenes, including the one in the very first episode where Ross learns of his father’s

death. So it’s also a must on any Poldark tour.

We can arrange your perfect itinerary with your private guide who will introduce you to

some of the beautiful Poldark filming locations such as Padstow, Truro, St Austell and

the wild Bodmin Moor? You’ll get to travel in comfort along the rugged Cornish

coastline, feel the sand between your toes on the glorious Cornish beaches and get to

tread in the footsteps of the dashing Captain Ross Poldark and his lovely young wife

Demelza. We have some fabulous recommendations for accommodation and dinners

that we can include too.

Be prepared for occasional wet and/or windy weather. A good pair of shoes are required

as some walking is required to get to some of the locations. Some of the walks and

locations, although relatively short, are along cliffs, beaches, steep paths and/or uneven

terrain. These tours are not suitable for small children and are not wheelchair

accessible.

Chilterns. My desire is to share the hidden wonders of these places that are so

often missed by visitors.

Our guests provide our proudest moments, when we see their eyes widen in

amazement at the majesty of a hawk in full flight, or their absolute joy when

they shoot their first clay from the skies.

When we plan your itinerary with you, we identify each detail that will make

the day totally memorable for you. Your passions and interests are at the

heart of the itinerary, and will create fabulous countryside experiences.

Our guests tell us that they value the knowledge that they can trust us to
