Importance of food, food items and their ingredients, sources of food- cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruits, spices, oils, medicines, sugars and beverages, different plant parts

as sources of food, classification of animals on food habits.

Activities: 1. To prepare sprouts of Moong seeds.

2. To study various food habits in different states of India.

3. To write different ingredients used in your kitchen along with its sample.

Types of nutrients, specific test for each nutrient from food samples, sources and functions of vitamins and minerals, balanced diet, deficiency diseases, causes and

Methods of separation- hand picking, threshing, winnowing, sieving, sedimentation, decantation, filteration, evaporation, condensation, solubility: saturated and

unsaturated solution.

Activities: 1. To separate chalk powder dissolved in water by using filteration technique.

2. To separate clear water from muddy water by sedimentation and decantation.

3. To study winnowing, centrifugation methods in the classroom.

4. To study evaporation technique to separate salt from sea water.

Chapter No. 9: The Living Organisms and their surroundings

Habitat- Types, adaptations- terrestrial, grasslands, deserts, mountains, aquatic, oceans, freshwater, acclimization, biotic and non-biotic components
