Key Learning
Preparing for the ENGLISH LANGUAGE and ENGLISH LITERATURE exams
Following specific mock feedback, students revise all 8 aspects of the course in preparation for their summer exams. Alongside this, students do a formal presentation on one of the revision components. This is assessed and awarded a ‘distinction/ merit/ pass or fail’. Although it does not ‘count’ towards the final GCSE mark, students must complete this to be awarded their GCSEs in English Language and English Literature.

1. Search you tube for ‘Inside the Human Body First to Last BBC’ and watch the video clips about the fire fighters and the Iceman. Consider how in each example the body works to stay alive. Be ready to discuss your ideas during the topic.
2. Go to the BBC Nature website and click on the video collections link. Click on the ‘Going, going, gone’ section and view some of the video clips. Be prepared to talk about your views using these examples in lessons within the B7 topic.

A study of a number of different chemicals and why we need them. How do we plan, carry out and control a chemical synthesis?
P6: Radioactive materials
Why are some materials radioactive? How can radioactive materials be used and handled safely, including wastes? How can radioactive materials be used in medicine? Should the country construct more nuclear power stations?

Students have the Easter holidays and then the following two weeks to review and refine their GCSE coursework portfolio.

GCSE APPLIED BUSINESS STUDIES
Financial Records
Students will complete the Financial records revision programme covering the following areas: • Ratio Analysis • Importance of financial statements to business
Pre-exposure homework
Revision is essential now. Students have been given a booklet on each financial topic which contains the theory they need to learn and numerous examples of exam questions. They should revise primarily from this. Students can also access exam paper and mark schemes from the Edexcel website. GCSE Applied Business. Course code 2AB01.
Exam Revision Programme
Students will continue on their seven week revision programme. The focus is to revise the following topics: Exam 1 – People and Business (25%) Exam 2 – Production, External Influences, Finance (50%). Based on pre-release casestudy. Students have been given revision guides on each of the areas and will be expected to attend an after school revision session once a week to support their learning.
Pre-exposure homework
Students should now be revising for their examinations. They should use the revision guides provided to supplement their revision. Additional exam papers will be provided for students to practice.
UNIT 1 Exam Prep
Students will engage in a variety of revision activities to enhance their knowledge in preparation for their Food & Nutrition GCSE exam, which takes place on the 16th June.

They will be encouraged to learn common vocabulary used in the GCSE exam and carry out practice past papers, focusing in particular on the tricky questions that they may find challenging. At home, students are encouraged to use the recommended websites and the revision guides to improve their knowledge of topic specific vocabulary.

Preparation for Exam; Unit 1: Investigating the Media TV GAME SHOWS
Consolidating all content covered in Year 11 relating to the final exam topic Students will receive the pre-release material during the first week of term - 3½ weeks prior to the external assessment date, giving candidates time to research and plan for the examination.
• In preparation for the 1½ hr exam candidates will be expected to have studied a wide range of examples from the genre.
• Candidates will need to consider codes and conventions of the genre together with issues relating to audience, institution and representation.
• Candidates need to show awareness of the significance of institutional context and funding particularly in relation to the BBC and commercial TV.
• Candidates need to show awareness of the role played by digital and social media in the TV industry.
• Candidates need also to be aware of any current debates and audience issues, as well as issues of values and ideology connected to representation.
• Production skills will be expected with candidates showing effective practical skills such as storyboarding, scripting, and other design skills appropriate to the topic.
40% of the final GCSE grade.

Unit 3
Students will be devising their own piece of theatre from a brief set by the exam board – looking forward/looking back. In order for students to develop ideas they are given a stimulus from which they will start to generate ides. Students will then perform this piece to for practical examination in front of an external examiner. (10th May)

1. Students should engage in research to allow developing ideas to influence their devised piece.
2. This research topic will be dependent on the individual pupils developing ideas. It could be historical or cultural. This research could be found in many source for example Video, magazine, Internet or written.

Unit 1 Understanding Personal Development and Relationships
Students will engage in a range of activities to revise their understanding of the core principles needed to work with other practitioners and service users, in preparation for their GCSE exam. Students will consider the four topics studied in year 10 to combine as examination questions. Topics:

Revision
Lessons focus on revising course content for both the Paper One & Paper Two exams. This will be done in conjunction with a strong focus on exam preparation. Various revision styles and strategies will be incorporated into lessons, with teachers responding to the needs of individuals in their respective classes.

STUDY OF AN ENGINEERED PRODUCT
Candidates will investigate a variety of engineered products detailed by OCR that have been developed through the use of modern technology. The impact of modern technology on design and production will be assessed across products from a range of engineering industries. Candidates will then focus on a particular product selected from a list provided in the OCR specification together with two more modern equivalents of the same product. They will evidence their research for inclusion within a portfolio, which may be completed electronically or in printed format. In this unit, the candidate will consider: • the impact of modern technologies; • production details (materials and components, available technology); • engineering processes; • design solutions
