Poverty – URP/MRP Methods
Two methods by NSSO to calculate poverty in rural and urban areas
URP – Uniform recall period
○ It uses 30 day period for all items of consumption
MRP – Mixed Recall Period
○ It uses 365 days recall period for infrequently purchased items (clothing , footwear, durable goods, education, medicine)
In India absolute poverty is used
GINI coefficient uses poverty in relative sense, that’s not relevant for India
