Welcome!
On behalf of ISSSEEM, we welcome you to our
annual Research Symposium. ISSSEEM is an
interdisciplinary society interested in the scientific
exploration of integrative healing, applied spirituality
and the subtle realms. This symposium and the
conference that follows are fundamental to an open-
minded search for knowledge, providing information,
careful research and theories that advance our
understanding of humanity, nature and the workings
of the universe.
We invite you to explore, discover, observe, think
carefully and dialogue!

Requirements for Submission to the ISSSEEM Research Symposium
1. All studies will consist of new material which has not been presented at an
ISSSEEM conference and preference will be given to studies which include data
which has never been previously presented.
2. All studies will be presented by people who did the study or are properly
authorized to present the study by the studies original authors (IE: PI, co-PI).
3. All case studies will have individual consents from the person who was the case
study client.
4. All human studies (clinical or basic science) will have had an institutional review
(IRB) or an ethics review which meets state or national standards.
5. All investigators doing human studies will be properly qualified to do human
studies research which includes human studies protection training.
6. All investigators doing animal research will be properly qualified to do animal
studies research which includes animal studies ethics training.
7. All studies of pre-existing cumulative clinical data must go through a
retrospective data analysis human studies review and the person(s) from whom
data is being used must be individually consented prior to the abstract submission.
8. All abstracts are not to exceed 400 words.
9. Device studies are to be proof of concept, single case studies or clinical studies.
10. All theories will be presented by the original author or by a person approved by
the author of that theory.
The Peer Review Process:
Each study submitted to the ISSSEEM Research Symposium goes through the peer
review process. Each abstract is grouped by the category under which the author
submitted. Then the title and the abstract is numbered and all other information is
removed. The members of the peer review committee then receive a copy of all of the
abstracts which are then ranked in each category. Comments are attached by committee
members which they feel are pertinent to the peer review process. The rankings are then
tabulated and placement in the schedule is based on the individual rankings of each
abstract. For those abstracts which have sufficient quality but for which there was not
enough room in the schedule to provide an individual talk, the authors are invited to
provide a poster session as an alternative.

Dr. Connor has been a healer in professional practice since 1987. A born clairvoyant, her
initial training in the energies came from within her family. Beginning her career in the
computer industry as an engineer, she changed careers in the 1990’s. Dr. Connor has
trained as a clinical psychologist, neuropsychologist, drama therapist, massage therapist
and in over twenty different styles of energy healing and she is ordained as a Buddhist
Priest. As a National Institutes of Health T-32 post doctoral fellow, Dr. Connor received
her training as a research scientist at the University of Arizona under Dr. Andrew Weil
and Dr. Iris Bell. An Adjunct Professor in Complementary Medicine Studies, Akamai
University in Hilo Hawaii, Dr. Connor is also the CEO of the National Foundation for
Energy Healing and the science advisor for the Spirituals for the 21st Century project at
California State University Dominguez Hills. Dr. Connor has a private healing practice
in Arizona and is the author of seven books.
Dr. Maria Syldona, Ph.D. Co-Chair
Director, Institute for Human Psychospiritual Development
Dr. Syldona’s academic degrees, postdoctoral fellowships, internships and teaching
experience range from science and engineering to electrophysiology, Eastern
psychospiritual traditions and clinical psychology at institutions including Carnegie-
Mellon University, California School of Professional Psychology, Stanford University
Medical School, Brown University and State University of New York, Stonybrook,
Medical Schools. Dr. Syldona is currently director of the Institute for Human
Psychospiritual Development, publishes articles in peer-reviewed journals and is an
international speaker, educator and consultant. Her world view has held a strong
component of spirituality since childhood, and her major areas of interest are “bridge
work” between: science and spirituality, ancient and modern, and wisdom of East and
West. Among the Eastern psychospiritual sciences she has studied and/or practiced are
Shotokan Karate, TM, Vedanta, Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Vipassana, and Kashmir
Shaivism.

Dr. London worked for over 30 years in business helping organizations develop their
people and their organizations. His foci are corporation vision, mission and values. He
has helped NBC, Jack Daniel’s (increasing profits by over $30 million) and Burger King
as well as consulted with other major corporations. He switched from helping people in
the business environment grow and develop to helping others find their own spiritual life
paths. He is a graduate of the Core Star Healing Program and a Reiki master from two
lineages. He was formerly the Board Chair and Provost of Holos University and professor
there. Currently he teaches at two universities (Baker and Webster) teaching leadership,
strategic planning, statistics, organization behavior and organization change. He is
interested in individual differences in spiritual development as well as exploring the
universe. He is currently writing a book to be titled: Self Love: Being Centered in
Yourself BUT not Being Self Centered.
Dr. Midge Murphy, J.D., Ph.D

Midge Murphy is the first attorney to receive her PhD in energy medicine from Holos
University studying under the auspices of Caroline Myss, Ph.D., and Norm Shealy, MD,
PhD. Midge has over a decade of legal and business experience in the motion picture and
television industry, having served as Director of legal/business affairs for the Walt
Disney Company and American Broadcasting Companies. In addition, she has served as
general counsel for Patagonia and EMP America before earning her PhD in energy
medicine. She understands both the law and the healing arts which allow her to lend her
expertise as a bridge between the two worlds. She is the current Dean of Students and a
professor at Energy Medicine University, and on the faculty at the Academy of Intuition
Medicine®. She trained in Therapeutic Touch as a hospice volunteer in 1996 and is a
founding member of the Northwest Therapeutic Touch Institute. In 2007 Midge was
initiated as a Reiki Master and in 2010 became a Certified Matrix Energetics®
Practitioner. She has been a student of shamanism for over 20 years and also uses
shamanic processes in her healing work.
A prior member of the ethics committee for the Association for Comprehensive Energy
Psychology (ACEP) and the advocacy/ethics committee for the American Holistic
Nursing Association (AHNA). She is currently a special advisor to Energy Medicine
Exchange, the Healing Touch Program Ethics Committee, and the Eden Energy Medicine
Ethics Forum. Midge is the co-author of Creating Right Relationships: a Practical Guide
to Ethics in Energy Therapies. While Midge no longer practices law, she does offer
professional liability risk management consulting services. For nearly a decade she has
been empowering energy healing practitioners and helping clients such as the Association

for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACAP), Tapas Fleming (TAT®), Gary Craig
(EFT), David Feinstein and Donna Eden (Eden Energy Medicine), Mark Dunn, ND
(Conscious Systems™) the Healing Touch Program, and Matrix Energetics International.
She is Dean of Students and a professor at Energy Medicine University, and on the
faculty at the Academy of Intuition Medicine®. Midge is the co-author of Creating Right
Relationships: a Practical Guide to Ethics in Energy Therapies.
Reginald Allan Stout, DAOM (candidate), MAcOM, LAc
Sr. Instructor, Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Tucson, AZ
Reginald Stout, DAOM (candidate), MAcOM, BA, LAc, worked for 18 years as a Senior
Instructor of Oriental Medicine at the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental
Medicine, Tucson, Arizona. He received his B.A. in Holistic Health from Prescott
College, his M.Ac.O.M., from the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
and is a D.A.O.M. doctoral candidate at the American College of Traditional Chinese
Medicine (ACTCM) a school associated with the California Institute of Integral Studies
(CiiS), San Francisco, California.
During the last 20 years he served twice as the President of the Arizona Society of
Acupuncture (ASA) and the Asian Medicine and Acupuncture Society of Arizona
(AMASA). Before becoming supervising licensed acupuncturist and Clinic Dean at the
Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ASAOM) he also taught at
Prescott College and was a High School Principal at the Good Shepherd Church School,
Deming, New Mexico where he earned the A.C.E. Award of Academic Excellence. After
his eighteen-year career as a clinical supervisor and award winning senior instructor, he is
now writing and developing a career as a well-respected events speaker and lecturer in
Integrative Medicine. In addition to teaching, he is also a skilled professional guitarist,
singer-songwriter, and former major concert promoter. He currently resides in Tucson,
Arizona with his family and their dog Asher.
Shelagh Smith, BA, AIEHC, VCSW, RMT (Canada)
Instructor, AIEH Langara College
Shelagh Smith is certified as a Resonance Modulation Practitioner, Advanced Integrative
Energy Healing Practitioner, Visionary Craniosacral Worker and is a Registered Massage
Therapist. In private practice for over ten years in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada, she
specializes in treating clients with chronic and acute pain. She is a clinic supervisor and
faculty for the Integrative Energy Healing Program at Langara College in Vancouver,
BC.

TITLE: Healing From Within and Without: The Power of Single Subject Research
in Clinical Practice & Evolution of Theory Development in CAM
AUTHOR: Bullbrooke, MJ.
PURPOSE: Development of the theory: Healing From Within and Without (HFWW),
BACKGROUND: Development of the theory begun and presented in 1985 at the
International Nursing Diagnosis Association in Canada. HFWW was developed from the
analysis of three cases that paralleled university teaching in St. John’s Newfoundland,
CA.
THEORY and APPLICATION TO CASE STUDY: The holistic theory HFWW spiritual
focus is on: Soul Essence, Soul Memory and Soul Karma. These three dimensions
outline the journey of the person in a particular lifetime that set the stage for the life
lessons that evolved throughout the life of the person, illustrating patterns repeated until
the person healed the underlying dimensions to a presenting symptom. The theory may
then be applied back to support clinical case study research. Questions that will be
addressed include: How does single subject research contribute to the body of knowledge
in health care? How can you abstract data from an individual case to design out comes
that will have greater application beyond the individual subject? How does clinical
knowledge make an impact to deal with broader social issues?
CONCLUSION: This presentation illustrates how invaluable clinical practice research is
to establish practical solutions to everyday living that brings clarity to future areas of
research that are needed to build a larger body of knowledge documenting the lasting and
total impact of CAM in health care.

BIO: Dr. Bulbrook is Director of CAM and Dean of Continuing Education at Akamai
University, and President of Energy Medicine Partnerships International. Mary Jo has
practice and taught HT and Transform Your Life through Energy Medicine throughout
US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Peru alongside her University

TITLE: A Case of Lifelong Diarrhea
AUTHORS: Firor, T.
PURPOSE: To cure a life-long case of chronic diarrhea.
MATERIALS: Homeopathic remedies strictly prepared according to American
Homeopathic Pharmacy guidelines. Homeopathic repertories: Synthesis and Complete
Repertory. Materia Medica [various].
METHODS: Classical homeopathic prescribing per Dr. Samuel Hahnemann [1755—
1843] with additional delineations from Dr. Adolphe Lippe [1812—1888] and most
currently Dr. Andre Saine of Montreal [1953--] as well as others.
RESULTS: Upon the single dose of the third remedy prescribed, the subject, a 25 year
old male who had experience chronic diarrhea since birth, had for the first time, a
resolution of the diarrhea.
DISCUSSION: Since the inception of homeopathy as an empirical science, material
notions of cure [as measured per each era’s laboratory abilities] have deterred the
application of homeopathic prescribing for illness in vast numbers of patients. With the
advent of better measurement abilities, we now have more understanding: apparently,
silicon nano-particles, their quantum and linear fields, and the more intrinsic aspects of
water and its response to various solutes when successively diluted in glass, can indeed
alter the entire defensive response system of the human being, thus affecting material
changes on all levels simultaneously. Hence, the very nature of prescribing as
exemplified in this case: the key to the final remedy choice, rather than simply diarrhea,
was diarrhea consistently worse with marathon running. This symptom was considered
along with the personality traits of the patient, as well as other, less prominent [in terms
of classical prescribing] mental and physical symptoms [for example, suppressed
emotions]. This case is notable in that applied scientific notions of irritable bowel

syndrome, gluten sensitivity, celiac disease, infection, and other diagnoses were
effectively bypassed by a deeper, specifically individualized and directive therapeutic
approach.
CONCLUSION: Current material science thinking has it that detectable, silicon
nanoparticles form different configurations for each solute, preserving distinctive fields,
which, when appropriately chosen, create the cure necessary for disease eradication.
Homeopathy is often curative when all else fails, regardless of measured causalities. Its
efficacy has been demonstrated by over 20 major meta-analyses. However, the degree of
talent, skill and time to obtain even a basic ability to repertorize, prescribe and cure,
along with the lack of a standardized, firm financial return for medical practices, deter its
use. The issue raised by this case and countless others is: since this science is clearly
“worth it” to patients, how do we perpetuate its worth at large.
BIO: Dr. Thomas Firor, MD, is a board certified physician in Internal Medicine and
Integrative Medicine. He has been practicing in Ohio for over 28 years. His
undergraduate work was done at Miami University and he is a graduate of University of
Cincinnati College of Medicine.

TITLE: The effects of short term Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
intervention on long term Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression
AUTHORS: Connor, C., Stout, R.
PURPOSE: To support the healing of PTSD and Depression.
BACKGROUND: Western Medicine thus far has had little success with the treatment of
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Acupuncture appears to have a reasonable
success rate in treatment of PTSD, but most cases are not clear cut.
METHODS: 3 subjects who had previously been diagnosed with PTSD were chosen.
They received 60 minute acupuncture treatments twice weekly for a total of 16
treatments, including herbal prescriptions. Patients were assessed at consenting and prior
to first treatment to create a clear baseline, then again at week 4 and after the final
treatment. Subjects also kept journals of their symptoms throughout.
RESULTS: Significant shifts in symptoms were seen starting in week 5 of treatments.
This held true across patients with different sets of symptoms and despite issues in
compliance.

CONCLUSION: TCM treatment was effective at treating both PTSD and accompanying
symptoms. Limitations include small sample size, lack of long term follow-up, and
inability to compare specific treatments. Larger trials with follow-up and comparisons to
other overall treatments would be needed. Acupuncture shows promise as being able to
treat a complicated mixture of psychological and physiological issues.
BIO: Caitlin Connor, was double major in Anthropology and Political Science as an
undergraduate at Mount Holyoke College and the ISSSEEM 2011 gold medal winner of
the Rustum Roy Emerging Scientist Award for undergraduates. A Resonance Modulation
energy practitioner, she is currently in her final year at the Arizona School of
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Tucson, AZ graduating in Aug. This study is the
focus of her master’s degree.

ABSTRACT: "Brain Nutrition for TBI and PTSD”
At present almost all of the research being done on traumatic brain injuries and PTSD is
the study of pharmaceutical drugs that address only one or more of the
pathophysiological processes and molecular mechanisms that have been identified as
occurring in these conditions, but many processes are occurring simultaneously and
cannot be addressed only with drugs. At this time an effective pharmacological therapy
has not been found (Petraglia et al., 2011). In order for a therapeutic regimen to be
effective treatments must be able to address multiple pathophysiological mechanisms that
are all occurring at the same time (Blaylock et al., 2002; Barkhoudarian et al., 2011).
It is my contention that the body is composed of materials obtained from the diet.
Biochemists have identified that certain dietary compounds are nutritionally essential,
which means that the body requires these compounds for proper functioning and without
the exact material dysfunction occurs. In my experience as a doctor I have evaluated the
nutritional status of thousands of people by laboratory examination. I have found that a
lack of one or more essential nutrients is common. In addition, the medical literature is
replete with studies that have determined that a significant number of people in western
countries have nutrient deficiencies.
From multiple viewpoints (philosophical, nutritional and medical), it makes sense that
when there has been injury to an organ it becomes necessary to provide dietary
compounds that the body naturally uses/requires in self-regeneration to repair that organ.
It is medically impossible to use only one compound to repair a tissue when multiple
compounds are needed. This is like using concrete as the only building material to build a
house. While it may be possible to live with concrete furniture in a house without
windows; it becomes impossible when you expect your concrete lights, refrigerator, stove
and phone to work. These appliances require other materials besides concrete to operate
electrically.

The brain is structurally composed of many different materials 60% of which are fats.
When damage is done to the fat/lipid materials of the brain only essential fatty acids and
specific dietary phospholipids can be used in repair (Cansev et al., 2008). However the
exact fats/lipids needed by the brain are very sensitive to damage by naturally arising free
radicals that produce oxidative stress and produce lipid peroxides. Therefore dietary
compounds that sustain the production of endogenous antioxidants (glutathione, catalase
and superoxide dismutase) and a mixture of dietary antioxidants are also required to
protect the fats of nerve cell membranes, proteins and DNA. The process of fatty acid
synthesis and metabolism as well as antioxidant generation/regeneration also requires
certain essential dietary vitamins and minerals the tissue levels of which are generally
compromised by the biochemical abnormalities that are present when a TBI has ensued.
In this simple model it can be seen that a number of substances must be available
simultaneously for self-regeneration to take place.
Therefore only a synergistic approach that addresses the specific and multiple nutrient
abnormalities that research has identified as transpiring in TBI and PTSD has any chance
of success. In this lecture I have endeavored to find scientific literature that supports the
hypothesis that nutrients can be used in a synergistic combination to maximize brain
repair and function. For instance, if an individual is not getting enough of certain critical
nutrients the production of neurotransmitters, cell membranes and energy can be
compromised.

BIOGRAPHY:
Steve Haltiwanger, MD, CCN is the Health and Science Director of LifeWave Inc. where
he is involved in setting up research studies on LifeWave technology. Present
responsibilities include: coordinating research projects at universities and colleges;
writing up research protocols, research studies, and background papers on LifeWave
technology. He also formulates nutritional compounds to support cellular energy
production and cell repair. For 30 years he has presented at many national conferences
and international conferences in 12 countries. He earned a B.S. in Professional Chemistry
in 1975 from Valdosta State College in Valdosta, Georgia. He received his medical

degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1980. While there, he completed medical
school and a one year fellowship in Pathology. He completed a Psychiatry and Neurology
residency at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute/University of South Carolina School
of Medicine in 1984. In 1985, he was board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. In
2003, he became a CCN (Certified Clinical Nutritionist). He currently is a member of the
scientific counsel of the International and American Association of Clinical Nutritionists.
Dr. Haltiwanger’s past research of combining electromagnetic and phototherapy
treatments with nutritional supplementation led to his current position as Health and
Science Director of LifeWave. He has done research on the effects of LED phototherapy

TITLE: The theory of Everything and the Emerging ISSSEEM Worldview
AUTHOR: McCurdy, G.
PURPOSE: To show that the ISSSEEM Worldview is constructed by the same principles
required of a Theory of Everything.
METHOD: Operations analysis of pertinent literature applied to criteria for realistic
modeling of complex biological systems.
THEORY: Any ’Theory of Everything’ (TOE) must relegate scale-dependent,
interactive, consistent logical systems, e.g. equations, to a subsidiary role in a giant
inequality that derives from the ‘Insufficiency Theorem’. An emergent first version is: As
m=0Σm->∞Logical Systems are Created << n=0Σn->∞ Assumptions are Required. This
statement says that it is not possible to make a single consistent logical system into a
TOE because mathematical models are limited maps of reality. Human consciousness is
associative in nature, which causes us to classify, then create classes-of-classes and
ultimately an incomprehensible class-of-all-classes, in the process creating self-referent
inconsistencies of the nature ‘All Cretans are liars said Epimenides, a Cretan’. (1)
The ‘Insufficiency Theorem’ is Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem of 1932 by another
name, to focus on his conclusion about assumptions that is reflected in the TOE sketch
above, i.e. there are not enough assumptions (axioms and postulates) to construct a
complete theory of numbers, let alone the rest of math (or biology). He did this by
inserting the truth table, heretofore external criteria, right into the analytical system he
created using Peano’s symbolic logic. (2) This made his system self-referent, which we
humans are. The failure of Russell and Whitehead’s project in the early 1900s to map all
of math using Peano’s logic was the impetus for Gödel’s work. (3) Their work was in
turn due to an earlier realization by the mathematical community that, while Euclid’s
geometry could only generate 32 theorems, when its parallel postulate was changed,
global Riemannian and saddle-shaped Lobachevskian geometries emerged. (4)

In the 1960s Kuhn independently verified this interpretation of the Insufficiency
Theorem. He expanded and humanized the idea of paradigm to include
1) a community of scientists exploring a common phenomenon,
2) using a common consistent math paradigm
3) a common measurement method by which to compare results.
The result was a description of scientific progress as a ‘parade of worldviews’ through
development of broader sets of assumptions by younger community members who in
time ascend into positions of authority. (5)
CONCLUSION: ISSSEEM is an emergent Kuhnian paradigm established in 1991 from a
community that holds experiential phenomena to be as significant as experimental results.

TITLE: Plant Music Therapy and The Effects on Body, Mind and Spirit

PURPOSE: The purpose of this single case study was to pilot the protocol for exploring
the impact plant music therapy has on a human.
MATERIALS: Dark field microscope, midi synthesizer, zero gravity chair, Maranta
leucoreura plant.
METHODS: Music of the Plants device is a biofeedback system that measures the
electrical resistance of vegetable tissue and translates the signals into sound via a MIDI
synthesizer. The device allows the plant that is connected to it to control the MIDI
synthesizer sound. For this study, two synthesizers were used and the equipment was
connected to a Prayer Plant (Maranta leucoreura). The plant played music for 55 minutes
while the subject reclined in a zero gravity chair and listened to the music. This occurred
once a week for twelve consecutive weeks. To measure changes in the body, Dark field
Microscopy was used to perform live blood tests before and after the Plant Music
Therapy™ sessions four times during the study and to measure emotional effects the
subject documented their feelings before and after eight of the sessions. A journal was
kept throughout the study to notate additional affects from the Plant Music Therapy™.
The live blood cell testing used the following measurements of 0-5, 0=None, 1=very
little, 2=mild, 3=moderate, 4=severe, 5=extremely severe, in determining the health of
the bloodstream.
RESULTS: The results given take the measurement of specific conditions noted in the
bloodstream before the first Plant Music Therapy™ session and compare it to the results
after the final session. The most dramatic changes occurred in five areas. The amount of
Rouleau went from 5-0, Fibrin went from 5-1, Platelets went from 5-1, Spicules went
from 4-1 and Protein Crystals went from 4-1. The most notable feelings felt before 5 of 8
sessions were comfortable and calm. The most notable feelings felt after 5 of 8 sessions
were comfortable, calm and relaxed. Relaxed was the only feeling felt after 5 of 8
sessions. The journal entries by the subject notated an overall improvement in energy and
endurance levels, balance and strength and steadier walking.
CONCLUSION: The results warrant additional study with a larger group of subjects.

ABSTRACT: “The Biofield: What it is and why it is important to know
about it.”
The term “subtle energy” has been used by practitioners of Energy Medicine and
Complementary and Alternative Medicine for a while. As the science of subtle energy
and energy medicine progresses, researchers in these fields of research have realized that
in order to move the science forward, a more defined terminology and cohesiveness
among researchers need to be developed. This implies that some sort of standardization
must be developed and accepted by the community.
One of the difficulties of main stream scientists, philanthropists and MDs is in grappling
with what it is exactly that we do as subtle energy practitioners and researchers. Last
year, a group of scientists in this field of research gathered in San Diego for a week to try
to figure out how to shape up this field into a well defined science and in so doing attract
the resources need to move it forward in a big way. There were many good ideas and
proposals.
One of them is to focus on the term “biofield”. This term has been around for a while and
it has even been accepted by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine (NCCAM), a branch of NIH, as an area of research for Complementary and
Alternative Medicine. But what is the biofield and how do we go about researching it?
What are the instruments and methods that are likely to gather most attention from main
stream science? What research projects are needed in order to put biofield research onto
the map of legitimate research topics at a level comparable to inflammation research or
genomic research? This presentation will attempt to provide some answers to these
questions and give an overview of current developments in biofield research.

Dr. Gaétan Chevalier received his Ph.D. from the University of Montreal in Engineering
Physics with specialization in Atomic Physics and Laser Spectroscopy. After 4 years of
research at UCLA in the field of nuclear fusion, he became professor and Director of
Research at the California Institute for Human Science for 10 years doing research on
human physiology and electrophysiology. After leaving CIHS, he became an invited
researcher in the Department of Developmental and Cellular Biology at UC Irvine. Dr.
Chevalier has been Director of the Earthing Institute since its foundation in 2009 and has
been Research Director at Psy-Tek, a privately owned research company in Encinitas,
California, since 2010.

TITLE: Sensory and extra-ordinary experiences of Healing Touch practitioners

PURPOSE: To examine the occurrence of sensory (e.g., visual, auditory, tactile) and
extra-ordinary (e.g., detection of energetic releases, production of sound) experiences
among Healing Touch practitioners during their practice of Healing Touch.
BACKGROUND: Practitioners of biofield therapies, such as Healing Touch, often
describe spiritual or extra-ordinary experiences associated with their practice
(Engebretson and Wardell, 2012). According to Engebretson and Wardell (2006),
spiritual experiences may include sensate phenomena, such as images, bodily feelings,
and sounds.
METHODS: An online survey, powered by Qualtrics, was advertised in magazines and
newsletters targeted to Healing Touch practitioners. The survey contained both semi-
quantitative (e.g., “have you seen…chakras/meridians” “never, a few times, sometimes,
often”) and qualitative (e.g., “description of any unusual visual experiences”) questions.
PARTICIPANTS: The majority of respondents (62%) had completed their training in
Healing Touch (Level 5), with 45% certified as HT practitioners and 9% as instructors.
The remainder (38%) were Healing Touch students (Levels 1 – 3: 22%) and apprentices
(Level 4: 16%).
RESULTS: The major finding was that HT practitioners (n=92) and students (n=58) feel
unusual tactile sensations more often than other sensory sensations, such as visual or
auditory, while working within the biofields of their clients. For example, 74% of
practitioners and 60% of students “often” feel areas of heaviness or congestion while

moving their hands through or within the biofield of their clients. Similarly, 70% of
practitioners and 64% of students “often” feel prickly sensations, and 60% of
practitioners and 30% of students “often” feel areas of coolness or cold. In contrast, only
29% of practitioners and 24% of students “often” have the visual experience of seeing the
client’s aura or biofield, and a minority (practitioners, 38%; students, 22%) “often” see
spiritual guides or beings. The most common visual experiences were, “images related to
the client’s life” and “different colors”. Small percentages of practitioners (15%) and
students (12%) “often” hear unusual sounds such as bells ringing, music or voices; most
“never” or “rarely” (practitioners, 50%; students, 66%) have unusual auditory
experiences. Few respondents (practitioners, 9%; students, 3%) “often” experience a
smell or taste related to the healing session or client; most “never” or “rarely”
(practitioners, 55%; students, 74%) have such an experience. Several practitioners noted
that, “cancer has a smell”, and “oncology patients that I have worked with …had a
distinct odor”. Regarding other types of experiences, a majority of practitioners and
students report that they have experienced a feeling of warmth in, or energy moving
through, their heart area during Healing Touch in the past year. A small number of
practitioners (18%) and students (12%) affirm that they are able to produce audible sound
through their fingertips during the HT intervention Ultrasound.
CONCLUSION: The majority of HT practitioners and students can sense an energetic or
emotional release by the client by observing “a change in the client’s breathing” and
“facial changes in the client”; more experienced practitioners can “feel the release” or
“have an inner knowing” that the release has occurred. Other signs of client releases
include: limbs twitching, crying, sighing, and body shaking. Several practitioners
observed that they can feel the release “building then bursting through”, or that it can
“feel like a pop”. Overall, these results provide a framework for future studies seeking
ways of measuring what practitioners experience during energy healing.
BIO: Dr. Margaret Moga is an associate professor of Anatomy & Cell Biology at Indiana
University School of Medicine. My current research focus is developing scientific
measures of ‘energy healing’ and other bioenergetic phenomena. The sorts of questions
that I am interested in: How do we measure the “putative energies” involved in biofield
therapies such as Reiki, Qigong and Healing Touch? How do healers develop charge in
their bodies? Can emotions be detected in the local environment? How does remote
viewing/distant healing physically alter the space around a target? Methods I am
currently using include: magnetic field recording, random event generators (REG), full-
spectrum photography and audio recordings.

TITLE: Felt-Awareness and Electrical Nature of Prana (Chi) in Psychospiritual
States of Consciousness

PURPOSE: It is hypothesized that chi is identical with, or closely related to, the
endogenous DC current of the body. DC potential measurements taken from skin loci
corresponding to acupoints differ in nature from those taken from non-acupoints. Since
changes in chi (prana) in the meridian system are involved in (and indicative of) altered
states of consciousness, it is further hypothesized that real-time fluctuations in DC
potentials on acupoints (but not on non-acupoints) are affected by changes in states of
consciousness which occur during processes such as healing/meditation.
BACKGROUND: Eastern tradition/sciences indicate that prana (Qi, chi) plays an
essential role in the quality of physical and mental health and human psychospiritual
(evolutionary) development. Furthermore, it is described as having optical or electric-
like properties, implying that an East-West translation issue may exist. Descriptions of
such ‘biological electricity, or energy’ in Eastern traditions preceded Western definitions
of electricity and light by thousands of years. Furthermore, when the prescribed areas for
placement of electrodermal biofeedback electrodes are compared with the locations of
major acupuncture points (acupoints), there is a direct correspondence. It is possible that
in the West, the Qi in the meridian system (prana in the nadi system) has been employed
in biofeedback since its inception, and is that which is fundamentally responsible for the
beneficial effects of biofeedback. This is also true for Energy Psychology, which
employs the meridian system in its treatments. It may be then, that what is known in the
West as “endogenous DC current” is the same as, or very closely related to, prana (Qi,
chi) – for simplicity here, ‘chi’.
METHODS: Taking simultaneous, continuous, real-time measurements of DC potential
fluctuations – from both on- and off- the Hoku acupoint. These measurements were
taken during baseline state, alternating five-minute periods of healing/meditation states
and external focus (talking-control) states, using two Autogen 3400 Biofeedback
Dermographs (Autogenics-Cyborg, Chicago), with specially designed electrodes, as
recording devices. Additionally, after each five-minute period, subjects indicated
graphically their felt sense of a subtle ‘flow’ in themselves.
Experimental subjects were healers trained in one of several formal schools of hands-on
(and mental) healing, advanced to the point of being certified to do ‘healing at a
distance’. Control subjects were people who had never taken a formal or informal course
in hands-on or mental healing (some of these subjects were meditators).
RESULTS: The results indicated that DC potential patterns changed differentially
depending upon the on- or off-acupoint electrode placement and upon the experimental or
control state of consciousness. Further, there was a correlation between self-report of felt
sense of internal flow (of energy) and DC potential patterns. This correlation occurred
for the on-acupoint, but not for the off-acupoint, electrode placement. Due to the

complexity of the study design, which included both within-subject and across-subject
aspects and analyses, ‘p’-values varied from highly significant to non-significant.
CONCLUSION: The results of this study support the hypothesis that endogenous DC
current and chi are the same, or closely related.

TITLE: Four clinical case studies in Oncology using Integrative Medicine with
Energy Medicine, Naturopathy and Homeopathy
AUTHOR: Morishima, A.
PURPOSE: In order to determine if a combination of integrative medicine, energy
medicine and naturopathic techniques would assist in oncology cases.
MATERIALS: Western and Functional medicine combined with Homeopathy, universal
healing based on analysis of the aura and chakras, bio-resonance therapy and
Naturopathy.
METHODS: Initial assessment using the bio-resonance device and development of a
customized treatment plan.
PPOPULATION: Three patients have stage four advanced cancer and one had early
cancer.
RESULTS: An analysis was done using the bio-resonance device which demonstrated the
following characteristics in common with all four patients: Acid blood characteristics,
accumulated heavy metals to toxic levels, corresponding depression of the systems of
detoxification of the body, and damage to the oral cavity environment. After analysis a
customized treatment plan was carried out.

The three advanced cancer patients have achieved remission. About the time span, one of
three is 6 months and two of three are 3 months. All three were treated using universal
healing and high dose vitamin C administration (one is 2 times per a week and two are 3
times per a week), two received bio-resonance therapy and one received homeopathic
intervention. The early cancer patient is also in remission having been treated in a single
session with universal healing plus ozone therapy.
And in parallel three oncology patients were treated by improvement of the body’s
internal environment. They were the improvement of acid blood and the system of
detoxification of the body and oral cavity environment and the elimination of heavy
metals.
DISCUSSION: Functional medicine improvement focused on the body and universal
healing regulated the mind and sprit. This holistic approach was a benefit to patients and
significantly reduced the duration of the illness. In particular the introduction of bio-
resonance therapy and universal healing were effective. Significant was the level of body
toxicity in all four patients. It is clearly important to remove the artificial material and
intake natural substances of good quality.
CONCLUSION: All four oncology cases are in remission as a result of integrative
intervention including: homeopathy, universal healing based on analysis of the aura and
chakras, bio-resonance therapy. This holistic approach was very benefit to each of the
patients resulting in a significant improvement in outcome and duration of the illness and
should be explored in greater detail by knowing the relation of body, mind and energy on
disease.
BIO: Dr. Atsustomo Morishima, MD is the medical director of the Lavita Medical
Clinic. A graduate of the Nara Prefecture University Medical School Japan in 2003. Dr.
Morishima did his residency in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. In 2013 he
added integrative medicine techniques to his practice which include: orthomolecular
medicine, nutrition, chelation, ozone, phytotherapy, universal healing, homeopathy and
bioresonance.

TITLE: Near-Death Experience and Its Integrative Imprint

PURPOSE: To examine if near-death experiencers (NDErs) demonstrated increased
levels of integrative and holistic wellness as indicated by the Five Factor Wellness
Inventory (FFWEL) in comparison to the normative data of the FFWEL. The study
sought to identify and study the components that make the NDE population unique,

especially in those factors related to the individual and the totality of integrative and
holistic wellness as defined by the FFWEL.
METHODS: The study utilized a custom survey administered through the Internet,
combining qualitative and quantitative data provided by the Greyson Near-Death
Experience Scale (Greyson NDE Scale) and the FFWEL. The Greyson NDE Scale was
used as inclusion/exclusion criteria, assisting as a measure of NDE validity as well as
categorizing the type of NDE. The Five Factor Wellness Inventory (FFWEL) was
employed to evaluate the five factors of wellness and its inclusive subsets as designated
by the measurement instrument. Supportive qualitative questions were used for a
Pearson correlation between the participant’s perception of integrative wellbeing before
and after an NDE and the total wellness scores of the FFWEL.
PARTICIPANTS: Of the initial 87 participants, 78 individuals met the
inclusion/exclusion criteria of the research study, scoring a 7 or higher on the Greyson
NDE Scale. Transcendental type NDEs accounted for 37% (29 of 78) of the sample,
cognitive 33% (26 of 78), affective 15% (12 of 78), paranormal 3% (2 of 78), and 12% (9
of 78) were scored as unclassifiable.
RESULTS: Results from the Pearson correlation, comparing participant’s perceptions of
integrative wellness before and after NDE, and the total wellness scores of the FFWEL,
showed marginal statistical significance (p<. 08).
A one-sample Z-test analysis of each of the five factors of the FFWEL, and its
corresponding sub factors, demonstrated statistical significance (p<.0001), as well as total
wellness and life satisfaction (p<.0001) scores. The local, institutional, and
chronometrical contextual results also indicated statistical significance (p<.0001) with the
only variance in the category of global context (p<.0006).
CONCLUSION: Results suggest the participants perceived a significant change in
wellness after a NDE. Additional study with a stratified larger sample size could be done
in the future.

TITLE: Can biophotons measure subjectivity changes in Probiotic bacteria?

PURPOSE: This research investigates the potential for microbial subjectivity by exposing
two different samples to the intentions of love, gratitude and hate, measured by biophoton
radiance intensity.
BACKGROUND: The phenomenon of light transduction influences a myriad of
biological systems, upon which entire ecosystems depend (Farquahr, Von Caemmere &
Berry, 2001). Indeed, all organisms emit light and these quanta packets of light are called
photons (Popp, 2003). The biochemical theory posits that biological organisms emit
biophotons during metabolic processes at the cellular level (Popp, 2003). Chemical
reactions require a photon from the surrounding electromagnetic field to excite the
‘transition state complex’ after which it returns to equilibrium (Cilento, 1982). Popp
(2003) postulates that photons are implicated not only in regulation but also cellular
communication. Additionally, biophotons have a high degree of order (coherence) which
is required for clear communications to be effected (Popp, 1999, 2003, 2006).
METHOD: In this study probiotics are exposed to the intention of love, gratitude, hate
and sound (classical and heavy metal), respectively, to ascertain whether intention and
music affects microbial organisms, causing more or less stress.
RESULTS: Poisson distribution comparisons suggest both probiotic samples showed
signs of potential subjectivity at source baseline and during intention exposures. More
specifically, QuantaBiotica® yielded results in the direction of hypnotheses showing
reduced biophoton emission in the love and gratitude trial, whilst an increase was
recorded during the hate trial. Conversely, the generic probiotic produced effects in the
opposite direction in both trials. Furthermore, sound exposure yielded conflicting results
in both samples, with no conclusive effects on biophoton exposure. This preliminary
study highlights the potential for microbial subjectivity and the effects of emotional states
on stress levels (QuantaBiotica®).
CONCLUSION: The early results match the data found by Van Wick et al. 2002 and
Connor et al. 2004, that damage to cells increases the biophoton output. The implications
relating to the body-mind complex are emphasized as the human physical form is
composed of more microbial cells (90%) than human cells (10%). Indeed, it suggests
host emotional states potentially affect enteric microbial colonies. Further research is
required to investigate these preliminary findings that may elucidate important aspects of
awareness in the future (Romjin, 2002).

PURPOSE: To use the mathematic framework developed in quantum physics to define
and calculate spirit or soul, heart, and mind as physics quantities as it refers to Soul Mind
Body Science TM

BBACKGROUND: Physics has excluded the study of spiritual phenomena for more than
300 years. Physical science and the study of spirituality has been separated from each
other until now. This separation has contributed to make our world more segregated. A
physical definition of soul, heart, and mind will help unify the study of physical and
spiritual realm. It will lead to the unification of physical science and the study of
spirituality. The unification of science and the study of spirituality will not only deepen
our understanding about our existence, it will also have far reaching benefits for the well-
being of humanity and our environment.
THEORY: In Soul Mind Body Science, we find that, using quantum physics, we can
define Soul as the vibrational field of which everything and everyone is made, Heart is
the ability and function of everything and everyone to receive and emit certain vibrations
through resonance, and Mind is the ability and function of everything and everyone to
process the vibrations received by the heart. Our reality is manifested from our soul by
our heart and mind. First our heart receives the vibration from soul. It activates our mind.
Our mind processes the vibrations received by the heart. Then our mind directs the
energy flow. The energy moves the matter.
Soul can be mathematically expressed by the wave function in the quantum physics.
From the mathematic expression of the soul, the wave function, we can calculate our
heart, mind, energy, and matter. The quantum entanglement of wave function provides
the scientific explanation about the “magical” soul abilities and potentials, such as
telepathy, intuition, distant healing, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis.
With the definition of soul, heart, mind, energy and matter as physical quantities, we can
create Soul Mind Body Physics. In Soul Mind Body Physics, the spiritual and material

become one. This will contribute to the integration of science with religion and
spirituality.
Soul Mind Body Physics includes three fundamental laws:
1. Karma Law
2. Tao Yin Yang Creation Law
3. Shen Qi Jing He Yi Law (The Law of Soul, Heart, Mind, Energy, and Matter join as
one)
Karma Law describes how or past action affects our soul. Mathematical expression of
Karma Law consists of two equations. The first equation is the mathematical formula for
Karma ÔKarma:
ÔKarma = sum over all possible paths C exp(iAab) (1)
Here the letter “Aab” represents the action relating to a path from “a” to “b”. “C” and “”
are constants. The symbol “exp” means exponential, while i is the imaginary unit that
satisfies the equation i2 = −1. It is used in mathematics to define complex numbers. is
the mathematic symbol representing summing over all possible paths from “a” to “b”.
The second equation is about how karma affects soul. The relationship between karma
and soul can be mathematically expressed as:
Ψcurrent soul = ÔKarma Ψoriginal soul (2)
Here Ψcurrent soul represents the wave function of the current soul. We use Ψoriginal soul to
denote the wave function of the original soul. Our current soul is the modified original
soul by all subsequent action. According to Soul Mind Body Science, soul is determined
by our past actions. Soul sickness is due to the harmful action that our ancestors or we
have conducted in the past. Soul sickness is the root cause of all sickness and challenges
in our lives.
CONCLUSION: According to Soul Mind Body Science, the subtle energy is determined
by our soul. The most effective energy healing is soul healing. Soul healing takes energy
healing to a higher level.
