Irrigation Water: Like most of the villages in East Jaintia Hills District, Tluh village also faces shortage of irrigation water once the dry season starts. In addition, most of the streams like Wah Rain have turned futile as they have been affected due to coal mine seepage. The fields are then left un-cultivated during this period. Drinking Water: Most of the springs which are located in the village tend to dry up from January to April and the people then have to rely on springs which are located further away from the village.

Coal mining activities have caused massive damage to the landscape and loss of different plant species. Most of the streams have turn acidic due to coal mine seepage.

The local tree species which have been raised are Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Blackberry (Morus

nigra), Dieng Chyrngan (Schima wallichii), Dieng Sning (Castanopsis armata) and Dieng Rtiang (Quercus

serrata) and an approx. total of 4000 tree saplings have been raised. The reason behind the success of this

Community nursery is mainly due to the site selected, Lum jingtep – Skong, which is close to the village

and there is a source of water which is available all throughout the year. Proper maintenance is also one

of the reasons behind its success. Each day, one member of the Village Natural Resource Management

Committee or a Village Community Facilitator would volunteer to water the saplings and clean the

nursery.
