The Emotions plays are an excellent way for the Crew to show how well they are at characterisation and drama. They have also provided an excellent opportunity for some of the older ones to try their hand at directing, something that many of them don’t get chance to try outside of the safe environment of the group.

They have all impressed me - learning lines, changing roles and actually getting into the shoes of their different characters.

Thank you to all the Crew - and to all their parents and friends for the help with the lines! Heather

The Suitcase Kid was one of my favourite children’s books when I was younger. I was delighted when I discovered there was a play edition too!

It tells a story that a lot of people, especially young children, can relate to. A lot of families go through divorce and this touching play tells it from a child’s point of view and how they can learn to adapt to a huge change in their lives.

I would like to thank all the people who helped with props (Elaine and Heather) and all the parents with the costumes. A big thank you to my Mum for all her help.

Finally I’d like to say break a leg and thank you to my wonderfully talented cast. I am very proud of you all! Chrissy

We would also like to say a special thank you to Ruth for everything, and to Pete Aslan for getting and delivering the wood for the set. We couldn’t have done this without you!

Jacqueline Wilson was born in Bath in 1945, but spent most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She always wanted to be a writer and wrote her first "novel" when she was nine, filling countless Woolworths' exercise books as she grew up. She started work at a publishers and then went on to work as a journalist for D.C. Thomson in Scotland after she had an article published in JACKIE magazine. Since having her daughter, Emma she has been writing full time.

Jacqueline has written a number of books for Transworld including Glubbslyme, The Story of Tracy Beaker, The Suitcase Kid, The Mum Minder, The Bed and Breakfast Star, Cliffhanger, Double Act, Bad Girls, The Lottie Project, The Illustrated Mum and a trilogy for slightly older readers comprising Girls in Love, Girls Under Pres-sure and Girls Out Late. Her most recent book is Vicky Angel. She has also written a series of crime novels and several plays which have been broadcast on Radio 4.

Over 4 million copies of her books have now been sold in the UK alone and approximately 50 000 copies of her books are sold each month. In a recent poll to find the Nation's Favourite Children's Book run by the BBC programme, Bookworm Double Act was voted 10th and was the only contemporary title in the top ten. Jacqueline herself was voted 4th in the Treasure Islands Favourite Children's Author poll.

Wheatsheaf News

It never seems to stop at the Wheatsheaf at the moment. Whenever you pop up there are always people rehearsing, singing, painting, building sets and generally being busy! It is wonderful that the theatre is being so well used at the moment and with such a packed season it really is no surprise. The Wheatsheaf Crew have been very busy rehearsing for this show, and we have had a few new members join, so welcome to them and good luck to all the youth group! We have also had quite a few new members from the last production - Joe Lawless’s hugely successful ‘One Jump Too Many’ and any of you that saw that production will know what an incredibly talented bunch they were. Hopefully you will see some of them back on stage soon, either for our ‘Wassailing with the Wheatsheaf’ Christmas event, or for our family fun panto ‘The Magnificent-ish Little Seven’. By the way, we are taking bookings for both of these shows, so reserve your tickets tonight to avoid disappointment. We are continuing with our Wheatsheaf Wednesdays, which are great way for you to come along and meet us all. If you fancy treading the boards, or you wish to help out with any aspect of theatre life you are more than welcome. Do join us for a drink and a chat. Don’t forget, if you have any budding young stars, our youth group takes ages 10 - 18 years. Talk to Chrissy or Heather about joining.
