    TheSulfaTreaTprocessisafixedbedsystemfortreatinggasorvaporstreams.ThemostsuitableSulfaTreaTorSulfaTreaTSelecTproductisselecteddependentupontheprocessconditionsandoperationalparametersspecifiedbythecustomer.

    Duringtheprocess,sourgasorvaporflowsthroughthebedinadownflowdesign.ThehydrogensulphidechemicallyreactswiththeSulfaTreaTmediatoformasafeandstableby-product.

    TheadvantageoftheSulfaTreaTprocessisthatproductconsumptionisdependentonlyontheamountofH2Sthatpassesthroughthebed.ThiseconomicallymatchestheneedforH2Sremovalwith

    variationsinsystemflowconditionsandoutletspecifications,regardlessofthetotalvolumeorothercommoncomponentsofthegas.

    SitefacilitiesshouldincludetheappropriatepipingtoandfromtheSulfaTreaTvesselandvesselsupport.Insulationofthepipingandvesselmayberequired,dependinguponthedegreeofatmosphericcoolinganticipated.Optionalequipmentmayincludeawater-spraysystemtosaturatetheinletgas.

    Sitespecificsystemandinternalvesseldesignspecifications,aswellasvesselfabricationandinstallationassistanceisavailablefromyourSulfaTreaTrepresentative.

    Equipment configuration options

    Single vessel

    ThemostbasicdesignisasinglevesselwhereinitiallytheinletH2Sconcentrationisreducedattheoutlettonon-detectablelevelsatthebeginningofthebedlife.Overtime,theoutletH2Sconcentrationgraduallyincreasestoanoutletspecificationlevel,indicatingthattheSulfaTreaTmedianeedstobereplaced.TemporarybypassofthevesselorinterruptionofgasflowisnecessaryfortheshorttimeittakestoreplacetheSulfaTreaTreactantmedia,usuallynomorethanaday.

    Twovesselsarearrangedinseries,flowinggasthroughthefirstbedintothesecond.TheleadvesselactsastheworkingunittoremovealloftheH2SatthebeginningofatreatmentperiodwithitsoutletH2Sincreasingovertime.Thegascangotothesecondorlagvesselforfurtherpolishing.Theoperationoftheleadbedissimilartothesingle-vesselarrangement.

    Thesecondvesselcanbeplacedinoperationatstartup,oritcanbeusedtopolishtheH2SremaininginthegasfromtheleadvesselwhenthelevelofoutletH2Sreachesthemaximumspecification.

    Oncetheleadvesselinletandoutletconcentrationareequal,theSulfaTreaTmaterialisconsideredspentorexhausted.Thegasflowisthendirectedtothesecondvessel,whilethespentmaterialisremovedfromtheleadunit.ThesecondvesselbecomestheworkingunitwiththenewSulfaTreaTbedintheleadunitoperatingasthelagorpolishingunitallwithoutgas-flowinterruption.Thelead/lagarrangementallowsmoreefficientuseoftheSulfaTreaTmaterialwithno

    interruptioninunitserviceandgreaterprocessreliability.

    The situation

    Recently,amajorrefiningcompanysuccessfullycommissionedtheworldslargestrenewabledieselplant.TheplantusesSulfaTreaTtechnology,includingtheSulfaTreaT410HPsystemandtheSelecTproductfortheremovaloftraceamountsofH2SfromaCO2off-gasstream.

    Asurgeeventwasidentifiedthatwouldoccurduringplannedmaintenanceactivitiesonacriticalpieceofequipment.Duringthismaintenanceperiod,thesulphurloadincreasedsignificantlyandtheoriginaldesignbasisfortheH2Sremovalsystemwasnolongervalid.

    The solution

    SulfaTreaTexaminedvarioussystemmediaoptionsanditwasclearthatanintegratedconfigurationprovidedacosteffective,secure,flexibleandpracticalmeansofremovingH2Sfromtheoff-gaswhileprovidingmaximumsystemprotectionduringthesurgeconditions.

    BulkremovalwasprovidedbytheSulfaTreaT410HPproductintheleadbed.UsingtheSelecT HPproductinthelagandpolishingreactorsensuredplantreliabilitywasnotcompromised.Thisconfigurationwasacceptedbytherefiningcompany.
