The Birth of a Nation
For 235 years, America has been blessed as the
longest on-going Constitutional Republic in the history
of the world. These blessings are not accidental they
are blessings of God. This is evident as we look at the
turmoil in other nations and contrast that to the stabil-
ity we see in America. Preserving American liberty
depends first upon our understanding of the founda-
tions on which this great country was built, and then it
depends on preserving the principles on which it was
founded.
On July 2, 1776, Congress voted to approve a
complete separation from England. Two days later, the

early draft of the Declaration of Independence
was signed. Four days later, members of Con-
gress took the document and read it out loud
from the steps of Independence Hall, proclaim-
ing it to the city of Philadelphia, and afterwards
they rang the Liberty Bell. The inscription on
the top of the bell is Leviticus 25:10, which
reads, "Proclaim liberty throughout the land
and to all the inhabitants thereof."
John Adams said, "The general principles
on which the Fathers achieved independence
were the general principles of Christianity."
Probably the clearest identification of the spirit
of the American Revolution was given by John
in a letter to Abigail the day after Congress
approved the Declaration. He wrote her two
letters that day: One was short and jubilant that
the Declaration had been approved; the other
letter was much longer and gave serious consid-
eration to what had been done that day. Adams
could already foresee that their actions would
be celebrated by future generations.
A Different Holiday
Adams also noted: "This day will be the
most memorable epic in the history of America.
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by
succeeding generations as the great anniversary
festival." He felt the celebration should be in a
manner that would commemorate the day as a
"day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion
to God Almighty." John Adams believed that
the Fourth of July should be a religious holiday.
The two top holidays celebrated in this country
are Christmas and the Fourth of July. According
to John Quincy Adams, the two dates are con-
nected. On the Fourth of July, the Founding
Fathers simply took the precepts of Christ and
His birth (Christmas) and incorporated those
principles into civil government.
The Declaration of Independence was the
birth certificate for this nation, but the men who
signed it knew it could be their death warrant.
The closing paragraph states, "And for the sup-
port of this Declaration, with a firm reliance of
the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually
pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and
our sacred honor." The 56 Founding Fathers, 27
of whom were trained as ministers, took their
pledge seriously. On the morning of the signing,
there was silence and gloom as each man was
called up to the table of the President of Con-
gress to sign the document, knowing that it could
mean their death by hanging.
Most wars have a motto. The motto of
World War II was "Remember Pearl Harbor."
The motto during the Texas war for independ-
ence was "Remember the Alamo." The spiritual
emphasis, directed towards King George III who
violated Gods laws, gave rise to a motto during
the American Revolution: "No King but King
Jesus." The Founding Fathers passed the torch to
us. It is our responsibility to not let it go out.

Session meets next on September 8, 2019.
Sunday Evening Meals will resume in September. However, we need volunteers to cook each Sunday evening. There are several options available, i.e. rotate Sundays if we have enough volunteers; or the volunteer would cook for a month at a time, etc. If you have ideas, want to volunteer, or have questions, please see Kaila Gibson or Karen Gibson.
Have a Safe
and Happy
Fourth of July!

Women’s Ministry Theme for 2018—2019:
SEND ME! Isaiah 6:8
Get ready to hear some amazing stories from twelve women who answered God’s “call” to “GO!”. This year’s Bible study resource explores the theme “Send Me” based on the call of
Isaiah in chapter 6 : “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I
send, who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!” (6:8)
From that point on, Isaiah was an outspoken messenger for God. Sometimes his message was received with an open, receptive heart. More times than not, though, it was met with re-sistance, obstinacy, and anger. Even though God called him in the midst of worship, the task was not an easy one. All ladies of the church are invited to attend monthly meetings of Sumach Women’s Minis-try. Meetings are the third Wednesday of each month beginning at 6:30 pm. A short program is presented from Bible studies provided. Come join us! It’s fun, fellowship, educational studies and prayer time. We’d love to see you there!

Thank you letters from Sumach Middle Schoolers for supporting
the Youth Mission Trip and Camp Nikao. We are very proud of
our youth! They are the future of Sumach.
Dear Sumach Church, Thank you for letting us go to camp.
Thank you for all of your donations and your support for
me to go. Thank you for your kindness and I love every-
body. The Lord would like that you do this for our church.
Love you all, Madison
Dear Sumach Church, Thank you for all of the support
you put into the mission trip and camps. If it weren’t for
your donations, we wouldn’t have been able to go. Going
on the mission trip taught me that I need to live for God
and no myself. Thank you for all of the love and support
you have given us. Love, Brionna
Dear Sumach Church, I want to thank y’all for all the support. All
of you allow us to go to camp and get a better education of God
and Jesus. We love you all and thank you for all that you have
done for us, providing for us to go to camp, on fun trips and many
more things. This church is special in my heart and will be in
anyone else’s lives too. I just wanted to say thank you and I love
y’all. Love, Skyler Mahoney
Dear Sumach Church, Thank all of you for giving me and all
of the other youth an opportunity to go to these camps and
trips. You all gave us a chance to get a deeper connection
with God. I thank you for fundraising and giving us the
chance for this. God bless you, Raymond Fierro
Dear church, Thank you so much for all of your generous do-
nations. I haven’t been to camp yet but I can’t wait to learn
more about Christ and His Words. Thank you again.
Love, Emmalee

SUMACH C.P. CHURCH 11
Sumach Women’s Ministry has supported regional efforts to assist families in Beattyville, Kentucky, one of the poorest communities in the United States. For the last few years, we have focused on sending help at Christmas. Obviously, there are ongoing needs throughout the year. Beginning at the first of January, this will be an ongoing project.
When you clean out your closets this spring or see bargains during all the sales that spring up during holidays, please bring any gently used, clean coats (all sizes) or any of the following items: socks, hats, gloves, mittens or non-perishable food items. There will be a more extensive list provided in October.
There is a table in the old fellowship hall that is designated to store any donated items you may bring. Of course, money will be accepted - just designate any donations to “Beattyville project.” Place your check in the offering plate or give to Carolyn Luffman.
Thank you for all the donations you have already made. Please be in prayer for this community and know any future donations will be as appreciated as were the previous donations.
Thank you for all you do to support the projects and programs of Sumach Women’s Ministry.
Carolyn Luffman, President
Sumach Women’s Ministry
Christine Quinn has been hired to fill the position of Nursery
Attendant. Committee rules require two workers in the nursery
(one to get assistance or a parent if needed and one to remain
with the children). As volunteers are assigned nursery duty as
Willing Workers, each will assist Christine so that Committee
rules may be followed. Thank you, Christine, for your service!
