MARKET ENVIRONMENT

1. Business Outlook

Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed railway started operation on 28 December. This new train line connects three of China’s special economic zones: Xiamen, Shantou and Shenzhen. Most importantly, it brings Xiamen within four hours journey to Hong Kong, which can save time and money on transportation. A series of related tourism products are developed in the market to cope with this new routing

The Hong Kong Section will connect with National High-speed Railway Network and complete in 2015, arrival of Mainland visitor is expected to further increase

2. Relaxation on Hong Kong Tours & Outbound Travel

Entry Permit to Hong Kong for Hong Kong Tours Non-permanent residents currently working or studying in tertiary institutions in Beijing,

Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen can apply for their travel documents in these six designated cities without returning to their home provinces from 1 September 2012 onwards. These residents can apply for passport and entry permit for travelling to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan in the local Public Security Bureau

Temporary residents in nine cities in Guangdong Province, i.e. Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Shunde, Foshan, and Huizhou, under one of the categories below are allowed to apply for entry permits to Hong Kong for Hong Kong Tours (a) Employed by or transferred to government subsidiaries of temporary residence; (b) Stayed and worked in the employed cities continuously for half year or longer; (c) Aged 14 or below, whose father or mother is permanent resident in Guangdong; (d) Retired or aged 60 or above and guaranteed by a direct relative working in provincial government apparatus

The Individual Visit Scheme The Central Government has announced that residents from the following cities /

provinces are allowed to visit Hong Kong as tourists in their personal capacity The Individual Visit Scheme was first introduced in four Guangdong cities (Dongguan,

Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Foshan) on 28 July 2003. The coverage of the Scheme has expanded since implementation. The Scheme is now implemented in 49 Mainland cities, including: Date of Implementation Province / City

Market opening for outbound operators 282 travel agencies have been approved to receive tour groups from the Mainland. These

agents are all members of Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TIC). For list of these approved ground operators, please refer to TIC webpage

CNTA officially announced that it had approved 2,151 travel agents to organise outbound tours

Japan began granting individual tourist visas to Chinese nationals including Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen

individual tourists, including Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Tianjin, Nanjing and Chongqing

MAJOR MARKETING ACTIVITIES

Wine and Dine Trade Familiarisation (October – November) To introduce the fabulous activities during “Wine & Dine Month”, HKTB invited trade partners from different regions in Mainland China to visit Hong Kong. Trade partners experienced the spotlight event of “Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival” at The New Central Harbourfront, Tai O Eco Tour, and Wine & Dine themed class. It aims to arouse the interest of participating travel agents to further explore special and new tourist products which may be of appeal to the market.

China International Travel Mart (CITM) (24-27 October) To strengthen the business relationship with the Mainland and international travel trade, HKTB joined hands with 13 trade partners to participate in China International Travel Mart 2013 (CITM) in Kunming, China. CITM attracted over 100 countries and regions to exhibit, and more than 1,000 buyers from Mainland China, Korea, Russia, US and Europe to attend this year. Leveraging on this opportunity, HKTB not only promoted Hong Kong through the Asia’s World City marketing platform, but also highlighted the new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal to the visitors. In addition, HKTB invited major Mainland travel trade delegates to visit Hong Kong Pavilion for Hong Kong trade partners to build network and business relationship.

Tactical Co-op Advertising for Hong Kong WinterFest Promotion (November – December) Christmas is a popular holiday period for travellers to visit Hong Kong. Major attractions and Mainland agents were lined up for tactical co-op advertising via print, online, radio ads, and consumer show in shopping mall. The promotion targeted to attract winter travel to Hong Kong and experience the festive ambience of Hong Kong’s winter holiday season.

Promotion on Wine & Dine We invited the popular food documentary TV series “A bite of China” (舌尖上的中國) and

“一城一味” by CCTV, and also key media from Central China including Wuhan TV, Chuntin

City Daily, etc. to feature Hong Kong’s culinary delights and culture. Itineraries included:

Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival, Hong Kong’s biggest outdoor culinary and wine event

Congee Noodle House, a Michelin recommended restaurant,

Sing Kee, a Hong Kong style Dai Pai Dong in Central,

Lau Sum Kee, a traditional Jook Sing Noodles restaurant

Promotion on “New Year . New World – Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations” This year, “New Year . New World – Hong Kong Countdown Celebrations” was the biggest countdown pyrotechnic show ever. We had successfully pitched Phoenix TV, Xinhua News Agency, etc., to film making-of for the show and interview Multi-media & Pyrotechnic Director. Main Hong Kong-based foreign correspondences such as CCTV, Phoenix TV, Xinhua News Agency, etc., also attended the show for live reporting on 31 December 2013.
