Dear Parents, The summative task for How the World Works, is for students to choose a recipe and have it typed into Google Classroom by Friday, December 11 th. In class,students will write up an explanation that includes the science behind the recipe. Your child needs to follow the recipe and bring samples to school on Monday December 14 th . We will compile the recipes and create an electronic Chemistry in the Kitchen Cookbook. Here are ways you can support your child: 1. Brainstorm simple recipes that show scientific change. *Recipes that require baking may have the easiest scientific explanations. *Your family may have a favorite baking recipe that your child would like to share. 2. Cook with your child and support their use of measurement tools and use of fractions (we are currently studying fractions in math). 3. Ask your child to explain the science behind the recipe using scientific terms. 4. Take photographs to document the process. *See rubric on the back of this paper, the scientific write up will be done in class.
