the following work was created during my senior year in college in a basic drawing class. it was my first real exposure to formal drawing, and became the foundation of all future work. the assignments built up particular drawing skills and used several types of media used extensive-ly throughout the course

the introduction to architecture program is a five week summer intensive class at columbia univer-sity. the class is designed for students that have little to no exposure to architecture and introduc-es the students to the subject in a graduate setting. the whole program revolved around a vacant site at the intersection of 125th street and lenox avenue in harlem, manhattan

experience the site at 125th st and lenox ave and diagram the information gathered using 44 straight lines, and 44 curved lines. i visited the site during rush hour and documented the movements of animate and inanimate objects through the space over the course of two traffic light cycles

measure your living area using your body and draw the space using objective and subjective tools. i made an axonometric projection and ran my diagram within. the diagram represents a twenty-four hour period and the actions completed during that time. the information is broken down into morning and evening activities, and shows my movements between my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room

wendy part i

the class transitioned to a focus on wendy, an architectural installation at the MoMA PS1 ex-tension in long island city, brooklyn. the installation is the winner of the 2012 young architect’s program hosted by MoMA at PS1. we were instructed to measure the structure using only our body and then create an axonometric projection of her at 1/4” = 1’ as a group. the other part of the assignment went back to the subjective side, which included a diagram of our experi-ence at the installation

wendy part ii - midterm

the midterm focused on the idea of the body as the site. the main assignment was to create an artifact or prosthetic that enhances a chosen aspect, thus making wendy portable. the orig-inal wendy stood as an oasis in the context of an urban environment. the fabric was specifical-ly chosen for its ability to scrub the air of pollutants, and the inner workings of the structure contained water purification systems and misters meant to provide clean water and cool off passer bys

wendy part iii - final

the original wendy material was unrolled as one piece and extrapolated to create the interior of a harlem brownstone that sustains an aspect of the architecture from the wearable wendy. eleven town houses were introduced to the 125th lenox site, one for each group member with the building constraints of 20 ft wide x 110 ft long x 40 ft high and the facade must remain. a basketball court must be present on the whole site, and a person must be able to swim from one end to end. four programs were also required: a bar, gallery space, a bookstore, and a church
