Welcome to the Summer Training Programme for 2009

In Westminster we value our Early Years practitioners and your crucial role in improving

outcomes for children and their families. We are continually working to find better ways to support you in extending and developing your practice. The introduction of the Early Years Foundation Stage in September 2008 has drawn our community of professionals more closely together and we have reflected this in the structure of this Summer’s training. The programme is designed to support you to deliver high-quality provision. The booking system has been simplified. There is one form at the back of this booklet. If you work in a group setting, your manager’s signature and contact details will be needed to complete the form. This does not apply to childminders. There are two course administrators. For courses with codes starting CD, your contact for booking and enquiries is Celia Lyons on 020 7641 1906 email: [email protected] For courses with a code starting EY, your contact for booking and enquires is

Paul Kingsland on 020 7641 3054 email: [email protected]

    Early Years Professional Status (EYPS)

From September 2008, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) became

statutory, so it is vital that leaders are in place to enable change.

The Government has introduced two new targets to be reached by 2015 to

ensure the benefits of this frame work reach all early years children. These are

To have an EYPS to lead practice in all full daycare settings.

Funds will prioritise groups in the private, independent and voluntary

    daycare sector

All staff to be qualified to Level 3.

If you are considering taking up EYPS through the assessment path ways

or becoming a graduate, the following London based universities offer training:

    London Metropolitan

    Greenwich and Middlesex

Independent provider, the Tribal Group PLC

The NDNA in conjunction with the open university

    Roehampton University

Visit the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) website at

www.cwdcouncil.org.uk for up to date information about EYPS training.

    Funding

    You may be eligible to have the costs of your foundation degree course met in full;

there is no charge as EYPS training is funded by the government.

You and your setting may also be eligible to apply for funding through the Graduate

Leader Fund to support you through training.
