SUMMER 2013
CONNECTING WOMEN With The Free Methodist Church
“Prayer Makes A Difference” A letter from Linda Stryker God cares about the details of our lives. He really does! 2013 Springarama showed that to me once again.
It all started when I was asked to suggest some possible WMI projects in
Congo for the next Springarama, Anything that helps Congo is already an answer to prayer, many prayers! In the same e-mail, I was invited to attend if I could be “in the area.” I really wanted to be there, but couldn’t imagine that date ever working out even if I could be “in the area.” As various challenges related to the chosen project came and went, I kept looking longingly at April 19 – 21 and praying about it. Then to my amazement as the date drew nearer problems related to my schedule started to disappear.
Just a couple of weeks before Springarama I was asked again if I could possibly attend. I had an overwhelming sense that not only did I really want to be there but that I should be there. However, there was still one problem with my schedule. Three days later that problem was gone! Did I mention that prayer makes a difference? And of course I still wasn’t going to be “in the area” but I could get there if a few things got worked out. And they did! As I packed my suitcase for the trip, I had another overwhelming sense that I would be asked to speak sometime, somewhere. I had no idea when or where, but I knew that God was in it and He would take care of it. I didn’t expect to be asked to lead a seminar at Springarama, but when I was asked to fill in at the last minute, I knew there was only one answer… and that there was only one topic – “Prayer Makes A Difference!”
Linda Stryker has been a
missionary to Democratic
Republic of Congo for almost
30 years. Her presence this
year was ‘a God-thing!’ The
missions project was to start a
pediatric wing for the Nundu
Deaconess Hospital of DR
Congo.
Springarama offering and silent
auction raised $10,920.00 to get
this started. More is needed.
For more information on how
you can be a help for this
project, please contact the
WMI committee.
Thank you.
BOOK REPORT
Praying Circles Around Your Children
Author: Mark Batterson Publisher: Zondervan
This is a powerful little pocket book intended to be a blend of biblical and practical advice for parents. Prayer is your secret weapon according to Batterson. He writes about praying for and through your children, having a disciplined life, praying by design and desire. He says the most important part of your day is 10 minutes when you pray with your children before they leave for school. Drawing “Prayer Circles” is a metaphor that simply means “to pray without ceasing”
(1 Thes. 5:17) being in the spirit of prayer in daily living. Prayer is the difference between letting things happen and making things happen. As parents we pray for God’s favour on our children. We want to speak words of comfort and encouragement. Batterson discusses five prayer circles. The circles are of God’s promises, prayer lists, and prayer, forming prayer circles and praying through the Bible. These circles help us pray with specific intent. We can pray scripture with a Holy confidence and peace. We can repeatedly pray a single specific God inspired prayer for our child throughout their life. (example Luke 2:52.)
The book teaches how to create
prayer lists, claim promises,
have a family prayer circle,
pray with your kids and leave
legacies to your kids.
Batterson finished the book
with 2 thoughts I want to pass
along: “Your prayers will shape
the destiny of your family for
generations to come,” and if
you are willing, “God will
answer your prayers long
after you are gone.”

Bramalea, June 8, 2013
The purpose of the WMI Ignite program is to ignite passion for women’s ministry
in the local church. Our committee comes alongside an existing committee to boost
their enthusiasm. This time, we were in Bramalea Free Methodist Church. The food
was excellent. The fellowship was sweet. And the fun was… well… fun!
Bess Lemon inspired us with her story of how God called her into Covers of Love
and other ministry opportunities. Kathy Casement spoke of how, when you give your
dreams to God, he gives them back even bigger and better than you could ever dream.
Linda Coates told her personal story of ministering to a neighbour in the good times
and hard. She also spoke of missed opportunities and dared us to just step out,
sometimes even just to cross the room to make the most of our opportunities. And Gail
Shillington tied it all together challenging us to use every opportunity, and that it’s
never too late to step out. And step out, we did! We lit our candles and danced around
the room to celebrate our commitment.
The day began with warmth and hugs and friendship all around. This was a group
of ladies who loved well. The day ended with prayer ministry as many responded. We
were about 40 women that day – 40 women and Jesus. His presence was truly with us.
