CONTINUING EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE, SUMMER WON’T STOP US! Our summer program is designed to enrich the learning of our students, even when school is not in session. The mission of this program is to provide opportunities for continued academic and social growth. Through fun learning experiences delivered by a dedicated teaching staff, the students will discover their talents, develop a love of learning, gain academic confidence, and create new friendships.

ENRICHMENT  CAMPS  Enrichment Camps are week long programs that run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Penncrest High School (except where noted otherwise). Many of these camps are created by teachers based on student interest.  The cost is $150.00 for the one week camps and $400 for the 4 week camps. There is a minimum number of participants required to run each camp. Complete descriptions follow.

Adventure Camp!Adventure camp provides students an opportunity to explore the world around them. This active and experiential program includes work with group dynamics, team building and leadership skills as well as a chance to appreciate the outdoors in new ways. All of you are capable of more than you think you are; join the adventure this summer, and let's find out.

Animation I & II!In iPad Animation your child will have the opportunity to learn a variety of types of animation using the iPad. In addition to mastering the fundamentals of iPad use, students will receive instruction and create digital projects using Stop-motion, Time-lapse, Claymation and Lego-motion animation formats. Come join the fun and find out what happens when your student’s creativity meets Apple technology.!

Beginning Baking!Students will learn basic baking terms, measuring techniques, and proper use of the oven. Recipes will include pumpkin bread in a jar, mini apple pies, simple cake decorating and much more.!

Creative Writing Workshop!This class will appeal to students who have an interest in creative writing. The class will focus on short stories. Students will read and review short stories and then write a short story of their own using creative writing techniques! This class will be engaging, interactive, creative, and fun!!

Drawing & Painting I & II!Does your child love to draw or paint? In this camp, your child will learn the basics of drawing and painting by focusing on lines, texture, shading and color choice to create still life drawings, perspective drawing, and more.!

Enrichment Camps Week Grades

Fact or Fiction: Conspiracies, Controversies, and Cover Ups!This class will look at some of the more interesting conspiracies, controversies, and cover ups throughout history. From the Atom Bomb to the JFK assassination: students will examine some of the most controversial events through different lenses and will learn about that which is not always covered in history class. What is truth, what is fiction? A critical eye will be turned upon some of the crucial moments in history.!

Golf Fundamentals!Drive, chip, putt!! Students interested in learning the fundamentals of the greatest multi-seasonal game are invited to join this fun golf introductory camp experience! Each day of camp is designed to introduce and teach students the foundations of the life-long game while participating in fun exercises and activities. Basic golf skills, game and course rules, history, etiquette, club usage, sportsmanship and swing will be emphasized. Must bring your own golf clubs. Space is limited.!

Improving Executive Functions!Does your child struggle with attention, memory, time-management, organization, planning, and/or self-management? These are referred to as the Executive Functions and are necessary skills for success in middle school. This enrichment session will provide students with the resources they need to improve these skills. Students will participate in various problem-solving activities, self-assessments/reflections, and engaging lessons that will encourage students to take ownership of their own learning!!

LEGO Robotics!Do you like robots? Have you been amazed by how NASA scientists use robots to explore the landscapes of other planets? You will learn how to build and program your very own LEGO Midstorms NXT Robot. You will also design a robot to complete a specific challenge. No prior experience necessary!!

Enrichment Camps Week Grades

Middle School Math!Students interested in advancing a level in mathematics in order to enroll in Algebra I in September of 2015, may complete this summer enrichment course. The course, open to students entering 7th or 8th grade, will address pre-algebra concepts. Students must be serious about their work and be prepared to do daily homework and independent practice. Students will complete an assessment at the end of the course to determine mastery of the content and readiness for Algebra I. Completion of the course alone will not qualify students for placement in Algebra I. !! (Note: this course runs Monday - Thursday each week)!! Location: Springton Lake Middle School Cost: $250!

Mudworks: Clay for Beginners!Students will learn the basic ceramic skills of hand building. They will create a project using slabs, coils and pinch pot techniques. Students will glaze their pieces before taking home a wonderful and unique piece of fired functional ceramics!!

Musical Theater Workshop!In this one week workshop, we will sing and perform selections from the best musical theater works ever written! We will watch, listen to, and perform many different shows from the various eras of musical theater, as well as write our own musicals. Bring your friends and let's take the stage! (Note: this should not be confused with the four week Summer Theatre camp).!

Reading Rockets!Reading Rockets is a program designed to be an early intervention for students going into first, second, or third grades. The goal of this program is to provide additional support for students identified by their teachers and principal as those who could benefit from reinforcement in reading skills over the summer. Reading Rockets will help minimize the regression in skills that sometimes occurs over summer vacation. Through this program, students will experience a rich variety of materials that will provide strong links to students’ reading curriculum. Need-based scholarships may be available.!

Enrichment Camps Week Grades

Ready, Set, Wheel!!Students will get a 3-day crash course in throwing on the wheel. In this class they will learn the basic process of throwing on the potters wheel as well as how to make a mug and a bowl. Once fired, students will glaze their pieces before taking a fabulous one of a kind creation! Space is limited.!

Rocketry!This course is a great introduction into the exciting world of rocketry. This course explores the basic elements of flight and rocketry. Participants will spend the week building and launching hot air balloons and different kind of rockets, including a soda bottle rocket and model rockets.!

Science Explorers!Are you interested in fossils or volcanoes? Are you ready for some excitement? Do you enjoy science? If so, then this is the camp for you! This camp is all hands-on and interactive! You will learn the basics of geology, archeology, and more! You will work with a team to dig up fossils, erupt a volcano, explore a cave, and make models of critters! Come ready to learn and have fun!!

Simple Nutritious Snacks!Students will learn basic cooking terms, measuring techniques and prepare nutritious snacks. Snacks will include Hawaiian Pizza, granola, smoothies and many more.!

Singers and Songwriters!Learn the basics of lyrical and music composition and how they combine to create original songs! We will listen to the greatest songwriters of our time and take inspiration from both vintage and modern influences. Perform your compositions yourself at our coffee shop showcase, or collaborate with others to perform your tunes!!

Enrichment Camps Week Grades

Summer Theatre!Rose Tree Media is excited about the talent of our students! To provide an opportunity for students to improve and showcase these talents, the district is holding a four week full day Musical Theater Camp during the summer of 2015. This camp is open to students entering grades 4 through 12 and will run through the month of July, culminating with two performances of a Broadway Musical (TBD). Through theatre workshops and coaching from experienced directors, musical directors, choreographers, costumers, and technical directors, children will be given the opportunity to explore stage craft like never before. Your child's day will be full of acting, vocal, and dance/movement rehearsals and workshops, theatre games, and insight into how a musical is produced. This will be a unique experience, so "act" now and register!!Note: Monday - Thursday (9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.) and Fridays (9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.)!

Tennis I & II!Game, Set, Match! Students interested in learning or refining the fundamentals of successful tennis are invited to join this fun camp experience! Each day of camp is designed to teach and/or sharpen skills while participating in creative games and activities. Basic tennis strokes, rules of play, match etiquette, and match play will be emphasized. Must bring your own tennis racquet. Space is limited. Location: TBD!

Video Production!Are you the next Steven Spielberg with creative storytelling abilities? If not, perhaps your talents lie in front of the camera, like Oprah Winfrey or Jay Leno! The Summer Video Production Club uses an American Film Institute (AFI) curriculum to teach filming, storyboarding and editing techniques. You will produce and edit video footage on iMAC computers in this course. (Note: this class is only 4 days, it will run Monday through Thursday 8:00 - 12:00).!

HIGH  SCHOOL  COURSES  FOR  ORIGINAL  CREDIT    

Once again, Penncrest High School will be offering Health and Physical Education classes for original credit through our summer program.  The dates and times are as follows:!!Session I:   June 29-July 17 (closed on July 3) !

Physical Education (8:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.) @ Springton Lake Middle School!Health (11:45 – 2:45) @ Springton Lake Middle School!!

Session II:  July 20 - August 6!! Physical Education (8:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.) @ Springton Lake Middle School!! Health (11:45 – 2:45) @ Springton Lake Middle School !!Health and Physical Education classes will only be offered if a minimum number of students register.  Students entering grades 10-12 are eligible to take health and/or physical education for original credit over the summer.  !!The cost is $250.00/course.

MIDDLE  SCHOOL  REMEDIATION  COURSES    

Students who do not pass mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts are required to enroll in a remedial summer program in order to meet the minimum promotion requirements. Students may enroll in a maximum of two courses. Courses will meet face-to-face five times during the month of July. Each session will be two hours in length. Students will be required to complete assignments outside of class in between each session. These required assignments will constitute a minimum of fifteen hours. In total, each course will require a minimum of 25 hours. !!Courses will be scheduled during the period of July 6th through July 30th – 9 AM to 11 AM. Exact dates for each course will not be determined until June 18th – the last day of school. Once final grades are submitted, we will create a schedule that will allow students to access any needed combination of courses in order to meet promotion requirements. A letter will be mailed to parents at that time. !!One Course - $125.00 ! Two Courses - $200.00

SNACK BREAK!Food WILL NOT be provided by RTM Summer Program. Students are encouraged to bring a small snack with them to their program. If students are attending a full-day program, they should bring a lunch from home. There will be a 20-minute break provided daily.!!DRESS!Shoes are required at all times. Please keep in mind the nature of the program that your student is attending, in order to ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the activities.!!BEHAVIOR!Students will be upheld to the same standards of behavior that are enforced during the school year. Physical violence, inappropriate behavior and language will not be tolerated. Any students who violate this policy will be removed from the RTM Summer Program without a refund.!!ADDITIONAL REMINDERS!Students are not permitted in any area of the building except where their RTM Summer!Program is being held. The school district is not responsible for loss of property.!!Please be sure to include your completed EMERGENCY HEALTH INFORMATION FORM with your registration.
