ACQUISITION HIGHLIGHT LAURA SPLAN, SQUINT, 2016 Recently acquired by the Foundation, Squint is a work of optical art, in the sense that the textile's pattern records the behaviors of the muscles around the artist's eye. Imagery in the tapestry was created as Splan conducted a biometric reading of the electricity levels in the muscles around her eyes as she squinted, using electromyography (EMG). Squint is on loan to "Code & Noise" at Arena 1 in Santa Monica, CA, opening September 10. Read more! Image: Laura Splan, Squint, 2016 (detail). Computerized jacquard loom woven cotton tapestry.
