Four Choices after Spring 2012:

1. Enroll in ELI for Summer 2012 (Slides 3-9)

2. Take a break for Summer 2012 and return to ELI in Fall 2012 (Slides 3-8 and 10)

3. Transfer to a new school or to George Mason for academic study (Slides 11-14)

Study in ELI for Summer or Fall 2012

What do you need to do know about studying in ELI for Summer 2012 or Fall 2012?

• Know what you need to do before the end of Spring 2012

• Know the important requirements and dates for Summer or Fall 2012

Summer and Fall 2012 Enrollment: Four things you need to do before the end of Spring semester

If you want to study in ELI for Summer or Fall 2012:

1. Turn in your Summer/Fall 2012 Enrollment form by April 16.

2. Clear any holds on your student account as soon as possible.

3. Confirm your George Mason Email account by May 4.

4. Bring your I-20 and passport to the ELI office for a travel signature starting April 27 if you plan to leave the U.S.

Four things you need to do before the end of Spring semester: # 1

1. Turn in your Summer/Fall 2012 Enrollment Form by April 16

• You will receive this form in your class on April 9-11.

• You will complete the form in your class or give it to the ELI office by April 16.

2. Clear HOLDS on your student account, such as:

Immunization parking address fees

If you have a hold, you cannot:• Get a travel signature• Pick up your grades• Register for Summer or Fall 2012

3. Confirm your George Mason Email by May 4, 2012

• Check your George Mason Email on April 16, 2012, for a message from [email protected]

• Reply to the “Confirm Mason Email” message with your full name.

• Send your reply by May 4, 2012, for enrollment in Summer or Fall 2012.

• You must confirm your email before you can register for Summer or Fall 2012

Four things you need to do before the end of Spring semester: #4

4. Bring your I-20 and passport to the ELI Office for a travel signature if you plan to leave the U.S.

• ELI must sign page 3 of your I-20 before you can return to the U.S.

• Make sure your I-20 is still valid until August 2012 for Summer study or December 2012 for Fall study

• Remember to clear any HOLDS on your account before you ask for a signature

Important Requirements and Dates for Summer 2012

• Do not be late! Late students cannot register for Summer 2012 classes

• All students in High Beginner to Low Advanced Core this Spring MUST take the Summer placement test. Only students in Advanced Core this spring can miss the test

• All students MUST attend registration

• Do not be late! Late students cannot register for Fall 2012 classes

F1 Transfer Students

If you plan to transfer to a new program or George Mason for academic study:

• Know about the requirement to pass your Spring 2012 class with good attendance.

• Know what transfer documents you need to submit to ELI

• Know the F1 Student travel rules for transfer students

F1 Transfer Students: Requirement to pass Spring 2012 class with good attendance

If you plan to transfer to a new school or start George Mason academic study:

• Pass Spring 2012 classes with good attendance until May 4, 2012. This includes students who have been accepted to George Mason for ACCESS, Bridge, or another degree program.

• Be aware that you cannot transfer to another program if you miss a lot of Spring 2012 classes or fail to complete major assignments.

F1 Student Transfer DocumentsIf you plan to transfer to a new school or George Mason for academic study:

Submit your new school’s acceptance letter and transfer form to the ELI office no later than 60 days after the end of Spring 2012: by July 3, 2012.

• ELI will check your attendance and performance in your classes before completing your transfer

• ELI will release your SEVIS record to your new school after May 2, 2012. You can get an I-20 from your new school after May 2, 2012.

F1 Transfer Student Travel Rules

Tell your new school about your travel plans. Your new school will receive your SEVIS record on May 2. They might be able to issue a new I-20 to you before you leave the U.S.

You can get a travel signature from ELI and return to the U.S. with ELI’s I-20 if:

• Your I-20 does not need renewal• Your new school does not require you to use their I-20 for travel

Returning to your Country after Spring 2012

If you plan to return to your country after Spring 2012 AND do not plan to study in the U.S. for Summer or Fall 2012:

• Leave the U.S. no later than 60 days after the end of the Spring 2012 semester: by July 3, 2012

• Remember to bring your I-20, passport, and I-94 (the small white card in your passport) to the airport

• Turn in your I-94 card at the airport I-20 Passport
