Coming into my second year as Camp Director, I am absolutely, positively, unapologetically ECSTATIC to get this summer started. Why, you ask?

First of all, I cannot wait to see all of the returning campers! I loved getting to know all of their unique personalities and, even more so, loved seeing them have such a wonderful time learning and growing. Secondly, I cannot wait to meet all of the new campers and get to know each and every one of them. One of my favorite parts of being Camp Director is being able to witness, first hand, how well children mesh in a relaxed, close-knit environment. The joy on their faces once they grow a bond with other campers and camp leaders is probably one of the coolest things ever. And finally, I cannot wait to see all of our new and exciting courses in action. This summer, we will of course have the long-standing Camp Lotsafun during the month of June but we will also be having a S.T.E.M. Engineering Academy (formally LEGO Academy) and the newly added Black Rocket Creative Sciences and Digital Arts Academy. Everything offers something unique and different - there is surely something for everyone.

IMAGINE YOU’RE A WEIRD SCIENTISTDiscover the weird science behind the ickiest, wackiest, most unusual things ever to exist! We’ll investigate some of the most bizarre scientific oddities on Earth. So get ready to take a strange, creepy, and sometimes even gross journey through Weird Science.

PUPPETS AND IMPROVJoin Miss Bobbie for a week of fun performances while exploring the world of puppeteering. Campers will learn how to bring puppet characters to life in a team-centered setting.

HAPPY FEETMake your feet happy, and mooooove!!! This class will get your feet going with fun games like hacky sack, jump rope, kickball, and more! Campers will also get a chance to work in teams to create a brand new game.

OUR BIG BACKYARDThis course will explore the great state of Arkansas and include a tiny sample of all the wonderful things it has to offer. During the week, campers will make animal track soap, create a toad abode, cultivate a “Camp Garden,” and even see a LIVE alligator!

WHO WAS IT?Was it Scarlet in the Library? Was it Colonel Mustard in the Living Room? Put on your investigator cap and lets solve some mysteries! Campers will take on character roles and learn the art of using clues to decipher what’s really happening.

PAPER ENGINEERCalling all imaginations! Through experimentation, you will learn how to create unique and awesome things out of something we use daily – PAPER!

WHO’S ON FIRST?Who’s on first? No, Who’s on second! It’s everything Baseball! During this course, campers will build a fantasy team, create their own trading cards, and challenge other campers in a whiffle ball tournament.

MONSTER, INCGet ready to enjoy a frighteningly fun time with Miss Bobbie with all things Monsters! Don’t worry; they’re not here to scare you…just to make life FUN!

FIFTY NIFTYRed, White, and YOU! Pack your bags and lets tour each unique state while studying symbols like the American Flag, Statue of Liberty, and the White House!

IMAGINE YOU’RE AN AWARD WINNING ACTOR!Get ready to put a new spin on some old fairy tales. This week we’ll recreate some old favorites and give them a funny twist. Calling all actors, set designers, and directors!

FITNESS FACTORHave fun getting healthy with the ultimate sports challenge! Every day you will engage in absolute fun and fitness, from organized sports to obstacle courses. Be sure to wear tennis shoes for this course!

YOUNG GEOLOGISTSLets do some digging! Layer by layer, the very ground we stand on contains thousands of years worth of history. During this course, campers will survey land while paying special attention to the small evolutionary details and documenting what was discovered!

PIONEER DAYSWhat was life like during the Pioneer days? How did children learn? What types of jobs did people have? What games did they play? What food did they eat? Learn about all of this (and MORE) here!

CRACK THE CODEWant to learn a secret language? Become a cryptographer! They make codes, break codes, and send secret messages. Talk about cool! During this class, campers will brush up their decrypting skills as they solve clues for a hunt of their own.

THE TRAVELING SUITCASEExperience a global tour focusing on foods, customs, and traditions! Campers will participate in a “Flat Stanley”-type project to hear from people all over the world. Parents, please be sure to let us know of any food allergies/restrictions before this class begins.

SQUISHY SQUEEKY STRANGE SCIENCE WITH DR. BEE A camp favorite – Dr. Bee is back!!! Explore the ooey gooey with the lovable, mad scientist!

IMAGINE YOU’RE A FAMOUS ARTIST!Swirling, curling brushstrokes. Vivid colors. Thick layers of paint. These are the hallmarks of a painting by Vincent van Gogh, whose work his fellow artist Paul Cézanne once called “that of a madman.” We’ll journey from the Netherlands to Paris to southern France to learn about van Gogh’s friendships with four other like-minded painters who admired but were determined to depart from Impressionism: Paul Gauguin, Paul Signac, Émile Bernard, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. We will learn not only how these Post-Impressionists’ daring shapes, colors, and techniques distinguished their work from what was painted before but also how the men helped one another and whether or not they always got along. We’ll also create some art of our own!

OUTDOOR ADVENTUREExplore the great outdoors by paying attention to the details in our surroundings! Learn what to look for to tell what insects are nearby, what plants may be dangerous, and end the week with a scavenger hunt created just for you!

MIDIEVAL TIMESCalling all Knights and Princesses! During this course, campers will trek through 500 years of midieval history while making swords, shields, castles, and more!

TAKE MY WORD FOR ITThis is a creative writing course for campers to truly engage their imagination. Each camper will work on their very own masterpiece (illustrations and all) to share with the class at the end of the week.

THE CHOCOLATE FACTORYJoin in on the sweetness and explore the fun world of chocolate! Learn how it’s made, where it comes from, and what all it is used for. You won’t believe your eyes, but hopefully you’ll believe your taste buds! Parents: please be sure to notify staff of any allergies before this class begins.

CLOWN CAMPJoin Sparkles the Clown and learn clown basics including etiquette, characters, costumes, makeup, balloon creations, juggling, comedy magic, performance skills, and acting!

CREATION STATIONDuring this class, Ms. Rachel will take campers on the thrill of a lifetime as they create their very own marshmallow catapults, homemade silly putty, glow-in-the-dark goop, and MORE.

IMAGINE YOU’RE A BRILLIANT INVENTORDuring week four of Mrs. Stephanie’s “Imagine You’re” series, we’ll learn about Thomas Edison, one of the world's greatest inventors. We’ll learn how Edison ushered in an astounding age of invention with his unique way of looking at things and refusal to be satisfied with only one solution to a problem. Edison is sure to inspire us to be inventors and scientists, as well as persevere with our own ideas. We’ll try out a few of Edison’sexperiments and perhaps dream up some of our own!

MAGIC FOR MUGGLESDuring this course, the magical world of Hogwarts will come alive at Camp Lotsafun! Campers will make house banners, make their own wands, learn about mythical creatures, and play a few games of quidditch.

VOLCANOES, A TORTOISE, AND ALASKAWhat do volcanoes, a tortoise, and Alaska have in common? They all play a part in how much FUN campers will have during this course! Be sure to bring your imagination and your tennis shoes!

WORLD CUPCalling all junior Olympians for round 2 of the 2014 Olympics – Camp Lotsafun style! This class will create an atmosphere of friendly rivalry while campers quest to take home the gold!

SEUSS ON THE LOOSEOne fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish…learn about Dr. Seuss as much as you wish! Take an in-depth look at the whimsical world this one-of-a-kind author created. Share with your campmates what all you discovered through digitally illustrated stories!

HOLA AMIGOS!Come explore the cultural wonders of Spanish-speaking countries, from how they speak to what they eat! Campers will play games, make colorful piñatas, perform skits, sing songs, and much more!

GOOGLE EYED FOR GOOGLE EARTHWith the evolution of technology, the world is literally at our fingertips. This class will consist of all the neat things that can be seen on Google Earth, complete with an online scavenger hunt!

MOSAIC MARVELSJoin Miss Bobbie for a week of creating colorful, beautiful, fun mosaics that you can show off to your friends and family! A gallery will be created to display camper work throughout the week.

KIDS BIZCalling all young entrepreneurs! From conception to execution, campers will learn how to cultivate their very own business idea. Miss Bobbie will cover money management tips, market research, and more!

Using a specialized game development tool, students will explore the world of phone-based and tablet applications. Camps are designed under the creative direction of Bill Zengel, who has two decades of award winning work as a writer and producer in advertising, television and more. Richard Ginn, who won Teacher of the Year at US News and World Report’s #7 ranked High School in the United States, and is

also an experienced school administrator, partners with Bill to ensure your child’s experience is of the highest level. Black Rocket provides unique enrichment and educational programs to children and young adults. Our distinct

programs in Creative Sciences, Digital Arts and Leadership focus on the intersection of creativity and technology. Each course emphasizes self-empowerment, cognitive reasoning, and divergent thinking through hands on

learning. Each of our classes are divided into age appropriate sections that increase in complexity and challenge your child to reach their full potential. All Black Rocket programs mirror real life experiences and the collaborative

nature of the creative process. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the design process.

All student projects are uploaded by the instructor on the last day of class to http://blackrocket.com/students. The students can access their project from anywhere in the world as long as they have a computer and internet. To access their projects the students must have an account. On the first day of class students receive a ‘golden ticket’ from their teachers. The parents of each student must fill out the golden ticket and return the second day of class. This allows the teacher to set up student accounts so they can access their projects at the end of the week.

Projects are hosted for one year on our site and parents can access anytime 24/7. After a year the projects are sent to our archives and parents will need to send an email request to access their projects. All student projects must conform to organization and Black Rocket acceptable use policies.

All sessions of the Black Rocket Digital Sciences and Creative Arts Academy will be held in the SouthArk Center for Workforce Development located on SouthArk’s east campus, 3698 E. Main Rd., El Dorado.

All courses are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Class sizes are limited.

Architecture and elements of engineering will be the focus of this exciting program. Students will be challenged to use their imagination to explore how buildings are designed and built. This program will incorporate the S.T.E.M. elements of learning and utilize 21st Century learning skills. Students will learn fundamental architecture

principles, general application of design principles for both houses and commercial buildings. Utilizing building blocks with pre-set designs the students will be challenged to re-design their own structures using the learned principles and their applications.

Pullback Car Frenzy is an enrichment course designed to stimulate problem solving and creativity using new and innovative ideas. Students become mini-engineers, challenged to design new vehicles utilizing pieces from

supplied cars. Over the course of the class, students participate in experiments designed to demonstrate science and engineering concepts

and laws such as gravity, potential energy, and kinetic energy.

What is Summer at SouthArk?Summer at SouthArk has been designed to offer enrichment courses that cover a variety of interests. The 2014 schedule is broken down into 3 main camps: Camp Lotsafun, which is open to students ages 6-12 and runs from June 2-27; Black Rocket Creative Sciences and Digital Arts Academy, which is open to students ages 8-14 and runs from July 7-May 1; and the S.T.E.M. Engineering Academy, which is open to students ages 8-14 and runs from July 7-18. Each course is specially designed to create a fun learning environment where students are able to explore new areas of interest and stretch their imagination. Courses are open at a first-come, first-served basis but registration deadlines are listed according to start date.

Cancelled Courses and ChangesSouthArk Office of Corporate and Community Education reserves the right to cancel any course before the first session begins due to low enrollment. Student DismissalThe instructor reserves the right to dismiss a student from his/her course if the student demonstrates a behavioral or attendance pattern that does not comply with the Summer at SouthArk Policies and Procedures document signed upon course enrollment. If the behavioral issue continues to disrupt class, the student may be dismissed from the program without refund or credit. Deadlines and Late PaymentsDeadline for registration is two weeks prior to the first class meeting. Space is not guaranteed as courses are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must accompany registration form in order to secure the camper’s spot. Spots are not reserved until payment is received. Students registering late will be charged a $25 late fee. Registration Procedure1. Select course(s) of interest.

2. Complete the registration form and emergency medical information.

3. To secure student’s place in course, payment must accompany registration form.

4. A completed registration packet must accompany the debit/credit transaction.

In an effort to guarantee an atmosphere that is enjoyable and conducive to learning, the Office of Corporate and Community Education expects each participant to adhere to the Summer at SouthArk Policies and Procedures. It is important that the parent or guardian and the camper understand these Policies and Procedures to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all participants. Please review these with your child:

Students will be expected to:1. Wear their supplied name tag throughout the day. It is important to remember that this is an active college campus and it is very likely that others will be others on campus at the same time that camps are in session. Safety is the name of this game.

2. Come to class on time and be prepared to take part in classroom activities. While we hope that this will be a FUN summer, we also hope that you learn a few things. We promise, you WILL want to know how to make the ooey gooey stuff Dr. Bee has in store!

3. Treat fellow campers, teachers, and all staff with respect and understanding. We will do the same for you...Scouts honor.

4. Always follow the rules of good behavior established by parents and teachers. Again, we want to have a blast with you! Believe me, more fun is had when we all play nicely.

Camp Rules:1. Visitors (parent/guardian and other immediate family members) must check in at the Office of Corporate and Communinty Education before visiting a camper (even for lunch). The office is found in the administrative suite of the Center for Workforce Development.

2. Cell phones and other electronic items are not allowed unless explicit instructions are provided by the camp director. In cases of emergency, the camper may come to the front office and use the phone (with teacher’s permission only). If cell phones or other electronic items are out and cause disruption, they may be confiscated by camp staff.

3. Campers are responsible for their own personal belongings and should not bring any money or valuables. Campers are not allowed to use the vending machines. Campers should eat breakfast before they arrive for camp. Campers may bring snacks from home. Campers must bring their own lunch if staying past 12:00. A refrigerator will be available for storage, but lunch must be labeled.

4. Campers must ask permission before leaving the classroom or recreational area for any reason and are not allowed to leave the campus without being accompanied by an authorized adult.

5. Campers should contact their teacher if they have any problems with other campers or staff. Campers should not intentionally harm himself/herself or cause harm to another student or staff members.

6. Offensive speech or actions are strictly prohibited.

7. Illegal behavior will be reported to parents and proper authorities.

Your signatures indicate that you have read and understand the Summer at SouthArk rules, policies, and procedures. Breaking any of these rules may result in immediate dismissal without a refund.

Transportation Contact Information

Each camper must be signed out on the designated sign-out sheet each day of camp.
