OVERVIEW

Student Life Camp is a five day worship event involving 1,500-2,000 middle and high school students. Students will

engage in a week of daily worship gatherings, family group bible study, church group time, and organized recreation.

They will also be provided with an event t-shirt and study book. The twice-daily worship sessions involve drama,

multimedia, music and teachings from a dynamic speaker. All activities will be supervised by at least 7 adults.

COSTS AND EXPENSES

The cost of the trip is $370 for students and $150 for adult leaders.

Students will need to have money for at least three fast food type meals and one $10-15 meal ($45 should be

sufficient). All other meals will be provided. Those students who choose to spend all of their meal money and

have nothing left for our trip home will be served leftovers from the week.

Students may also want to purchase some items not included in the cost of the trip. There will be opportunities

to buy music, books and other items related to the worship experience. They also like to hit the ice cream shop

each night after worship.

There will likely be one afternoon where the students will participate in a group activity (typically an adventure

arcade with a race track). This is optional – some go to the beach or free water park instead.

We anticipate about $120-140 should easily cover expenses for the week.

FUNDRAISING AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

We understand that this is a lot of money – especially for families with multiple students. We provide many service

related fundraising opportunities to help raise money. Students should easily be able to earn over half of the cost of

camp if they work all of the events. We also receive various contributions from people in our church to help students go

to camp. Any student who requests and receives such money must work all fundraising events (unless excused) AND

they must attend 3 out of 4 Sunday evening student discipleship events each month. These begin at 5:30 and are

designed to transform your student into dedicated Christ followers.

FACILITIES (definitely not camp as you remember it)

The students will again be staying at Levin’s Bend at The Wharf. The rooms are condo type rooms that house 5-7

students per room. Students are provided with towels and linens for their stay but there is no daily cleaning service.

Each room has kitchen facilities, washers and dryers. This facility is located near many shops and restaurants. Students

will have free admission to the Oasis water park. All activities at this facility are supervised by our adult leadership. You

can view pictures of the lodging at: http://www.thewharfvacationrentals.com/Content/default.asp

EXPECTATIONS

Group Expectations o The leader must know where you are at all times. The leader has the final word. Respect and obey your

leaders. o This is a group activity. This means that everyone should be doing what everyone else is doing. No

pairing up – No disappearing. Everyone is expected to attend all meetings. Students must stay with the big group or with their leader approved mini-group. Rule of 3 applies.

o This is a person building event. Take every opportunity to spend time with God and with each other. Don’t let your technology be a distraction.

Mixed Gender Expectations o No guys in the girl rooms and no girls in the guy rooms without an adult in the room who says it is OK for

you to be there. Visiting students are only allowed in the common rooms NOT in the bedrooms. If the adult leaves the room, the visitor must leave at the same time.

o No sitting in each other laps, no lying of heads in laps or other inappropriate personal contact. o No mixed gender sharing of blankets or any other cover.

Safety Expectations o Be mindful of your actions and don’t do anything crazy. If you have any doubt in your mind as to

whether or not something is crazy, then it’s crazy. Don’t do it. o Don’t do anything to distract the bus driver. If the driver asks for quiet, everyone needs to be quiet

immediately.

Food and Lodging Expectations o Food will be allowed on the bus but everyone is responsible for keeping the bus clean after every ride.

Only drinks with screw on tops will be allowed on the bus (no cans, no cups, no cups with lids). o No complaining because the bus driver is exempt from the above rule. o Common rooms must be kept as clean as possible. o Don’t be snacking on the common food. Breakfast food is for breakfast only; lunch for lunch only.

Swim Suits and Clothing - Modesty is rule #1. At camp we are all part of an environment where we are trying to remove distractions so that we can concentrate on what God has brought us there to do. Don’t be a distraction by dressing inappropriately.

o Ladies - Swimming attire for the ladies must either be a one piece, full coverage type swimsuit or a tankini type suit. Anyone wearing a bikini or a suit that is deemed inappropriate must wear a dark colored T-shirt over the swim suit. For non-swimming activities, shorts should be no shorter than finger tip level when your arm is extended downward (this is increasingly becoming a problem). Spaghetti strap top and tank tops are OK for beach wear but not for any other activity. Halter tops and tube tops are not allowed.

o Guys – wear loose fitting shirts and pants for worship, loose fitting shorts for the beach. No sleeveless shirts at meals or group meetings.

Damages - Students are personally responsible for all damages to any facilities, including their room. If damages occur, disciplinary action will be taken, and the students involved in the damage will be required to pay for the cost of repairs.

Disciplinary Actions - A student can be sent home in the event that the student violates any of the trip rules. We don’t want to send anyone home because doing so ruins the trip for everyone. If a violation occurs, the offending student will be counseled and given direction for corrective behavior. Should the problem continue, very careful deliberation among the group leaders will occur and efforts to contact the parents will be made prior to making any decision. In the event a student must be sent home, the parents or guardians of that student will be responsible for the costs associated with sending the student home and no money will be refunded.

If you have any questions at all about what will be happening this week or if you have any questions in general about the church or the student ministry, please contact Gary McEntire. Thanks for allowing your student to participate.
