• The online registration system requires full payment at the time of registration for all camps. Mastercard and Visa are accepted.

• Early Bird Discounts. An early bird discount of $25 for each 2 week session of BASE Camp and Camp 678 is applied if you register before April 30, 2016. An early bird discount of $10 for some 2 week Enrichment Camps, $5 for each 1 week Sports Camp and $5 for Kindergarten Prep is applied if you register before April 30, 2016.

• BASE Camp and Camp 678 require a non-refundable registration fee of $50 per child.

• The registration deadline for BASE Camp, Camp 678, and Travel camps is 2 weeks before the camp begins or earlier if camp fills up. Example: If camp begins Monday, July 18, registration ends Monday, July 4 at 12 Noon.

• The registration deadline for Enrichment and Sports Camp is 1 week before a camp begins or earlier if camp fills up. Example: If camp begins Monday, July 18 registration ends Monday, July 11 at 12 Noon.

• Once the registration deadline passes, you will NOT be able to register.

• Confirmations and Receipts. Payment receipts are automatically emailed upon enrollment. A detailed confir- mation letter will be emailed about one week before each camp starts. • Refund Policy for BASE Camp, Camp 678 and Travel Camps Withdrawals: Refunds, minus the withdrawal fee of $50 per session and the $50 registration fee, will be given if written notification is received by us at least 3 weeks before a program begins. Lunch Program for BASE, Camp 678, & Full Day Enrichment Camps This summer, Chartwells Dining Services, the same company the school district uses for lunch during the school year, will provide lunch at no additional cost for all students who attend BASE, Camp 678, or combine an AM & PM Enrich-ment Camp. Students can choose from a hot meal, sandwich, salad or vegetarian option each day. Menus for each camp session will be included in the detailed confirmation letter you will receive via email about a week before each camp session starts. For more information on lunch, contact Michele Armstrong, Director of Chartwells Dining Services, at Michele.Armstrong@compass-usa.com. Parents can opt not to participate and send in a bag lunch with their child.

Sliding scale tuition for South Brunswick residents only. We offer a limited amount of tuition assistance to eligible South Brunswick families based on household income and family size. Priority for assistance is given to current Community Education Before & After School families. (Please note that the State Childcare Subsidy program does not cover the entire cost of camp. Families are required to contrib-ute towards the difference between the state subsidy and the cost of the program.) To qualify for assistance for full day camps, all adults eligible to work in the household must be employed. Assistance is not available for all camps. The deadline for forms and supporting documents, including State Subsidy forms, is April 30*. After this date, assistance may not be available. BASE Camp is for elementary school aged campers enter-ing Grades 1-5. Each theme based session will include special events, creative arts, active play, table games and sports. Amazing field trips, outdoor activities, and special guests are also included in this fun-filled camp experience. Caring and active staff create a fun atmosphere where campers will have the opportunity to play, imagine and explore while creating new friendships.

Structured activities are between 9 am-4 pm with drop off between 7-9 am & pick-up between 4-6 pm. Morning and afternoon snacks, plus a hot or cold lunch are included. See page 2 for details on the lunch program.

Camp 678 is designed specifically for middle school stu-dents. This camp provides a new project-based focus on creative arts, fitness, nature studies, community service, table games and sports. Participants help to plan their program activities and projects under the supervision of enthusiastic and engaging staff. Exciting field trips, out-door activities and special events round out this unfor-gettable camp experience.

at Constable SchoolEach day, your child will be on the road from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Different age appropriate trips will be featured for campers. Last year, Grades 1-4 enjoyed exploring Tilt Studio, Giggleberry Fair and Blackbeard’s Cave Family Entertainment Center to name a few. The 5th-8th Grade students sought adventure at Point Pleasant Amusements, Kid’s Rule and Michael Cluizel Chocolatrium.

•Tuition assistance is not available for Travel camp.•Lunch is not included. Children must bring a bag lunch from home each day. •Morning and afternoon snacks are provided.There is limited space in Travel Camp. Open only to children participating in the 9 day or at least one two-week session of BASE Camp or Camp 678.

Leadership Training Program for Select Students Entering Grade 10

We offer a Leadership Training Program for a small group of students who are 15 and going into the 10th grade. Students will assist counselors and junior counselors with BASE camp activities. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience working with young children.

Student needs to complete a separate application, provide references and be interviewed as part of the selection process. Apply for one, two or all three sessions: July 5-15, July 18-29, August 1-12. Preference is given to former Day Campers and SBHS students. The cost is $300 for each 10 day session and $270 for the 9 day session from 9 am - 4 pm, with the option of coming to before and/or after camp at no additional cost.

Math Through MovementNicole Ruggiero, CoordinatorLearn math through creative movement! Each day chil-dren will begin with a simple math problem, incorporat-ing movement to help find the answer. The children will explore different ways to move their bodies by creating geometric shapes such as a triangle, circle, square or line. By the end of week one, they will have created a shape inspired solo dance. In week two, the focus will be on adding and subtracting, as they create a duet by adding another dancer to their solo, a trio by adding two more people, working towards a group dance. A final perfor-mance for parents will show how adding and subtracting dancers while using shape inspired movement can create a full dance concert. Get ready to learn math skills and move bodies!

Brixology 101 Campers will study aerospace, boats, machines and so much more as they are guided through hands-on experi-ments and demonstrations. Brixology Camp sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Children learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using MAD SCIENCE EXCLUSIVE LEGO® bricks! They will learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station and explore mechanical engineering as they build boats and vehicles. And, that’s not all – from carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-build-ing skills. Sensational Science Olympiad Campers will dive into a variety of scientific fields as they mix and stretch silly putty and slime, copperplate nickels, and investigate the mysteries of optical illusions. Laser experiments and dry ice demonstrations will capture their attention as they observe how fun and exciting science can be. They will be amazed as they observe a chemical energy display, the world’s simplest motor, and a hair-raising interactive demonstration worthy of praise by Van de Graaff himself! Children will investigate the layers of the Earth and explore how various forces combine to cre-ate rocks and minerals. They’ll also build and race a car to learn about physics and construct a rocket to investigate the wonders of flight and aerodynamics and take both projects home to continue the fun! The Mad Scientist will astound the children as they witness remarkable color changes, experiment with acids and bases, and grow their very own crystal gardens to take home! Reach for the Sci-ence Gold in this camp!

Entering Grades 1–5 Brooks Crossing School

Mother Natures’s Power and Wonder Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, campers will jump aboard the energy express and travel through time to discover the science behind power & motion. This journey includes in-class experiments such as a water powered turbine illuminating a light bulb, fuel cells cars demonstrating efficiency, and the combined power of electricity and magnetism to create the world’s simplest motor. Campers will discover renewable energy sources, such as the sun and wind, where they will build and test individual solar hot dog cookers and their own balsa wood airplanes. Our junior scientists will also get in touch with nature as they learn about how changes in the wind, water, and temperature can affect the Earth’s inhabitants. As children learn about how animals and insects adapt to life on our planet, they’ll flow through the food chain and discover how predators and prey interact with each other. Take a walk on the wild side during this powerful camp.

Exploring Engineering Gr. 1–2 Students will explore various engineering disciplines and the engineering design process through hands-on chal-lenging projects, which provide a design – build – test experience. Curiosity will be sparked as students use the design process to be a creative problem solver, innovative thinker and a team player with daily challenges. 2 week session: July 18–29 Tuition: $310

Sticky Situation Gr. 1–2 Glue helps hold things together and there are so many different types! Campers will work in teams to build various contraptions out of given materials and different types of glue. They will test the strength by seeing how heavy of an object they can hold. Data will be collected and recorded via Google Sheets, and then students will use what they learned to design an everyday object that would be useful to them. 2 week session: August 1–12 Tuition: $310

The Water Debate Gr. 3–5You have always been told that plants need water to grow, but is that true? What about soda, Gatorade, milk, or juice? Campers will collect and record data via Google Sheets, and use measurement, estimation, and math to calculate plant growth and any differences. After thinking about the findings, they will create a service announcement for local farmers, sharing other options for “watering” plants. 2 week session: July 18–29 Tuition: $310 Architects & Engineers Gr. 3–5 In this fast paced, exciting camp we will be using the design process to design, build, and create different struc-tures. Each day will begin with a thinking challenge. The first week we will use web based tools to design and create our own bedrooms. Courtney Desandre, CoordinatorThis camp offers a fun and enriching way for your child to explore many different children’s authors such as: Eric Carle, Dr. Seuss, Leo Lionni, Mo Willems, and many more. We will use these popular authors as our mentors through-out these two weeks. Children will be able to express their creativity in the form of art projects, dramatic arts, writing, and technology throughout this camp. Aligned to the common core, this camp will focus on important reading skills needed for children reading at any level.

Arcade Adventures & Wheels in MotionWeek 1: Jump into the world of classic arcade and video games! That was the time of 8-bit and later 16-bit technology, which gave these old games their classic appearance. July 18–29 Grades 1-2Let’s build it! Campers will spend this session creating 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs out of shapes. They will use geometry concepts, patterns, and counting to create unique designs that they will display for all to see at the end of camp.

August 1–12 Grades 1-2This session campers will tie real life to math. They will experience and act out real life math problems dealing with patterns, geometry, measurement, addition, subtrac-tion and place value. Then they will create visual and numerical representations of what they did. At the end of two weeks students will have a collection of math prob-lems that they “lived”.

July 18–29 Grades 3-5It’s Carnival Game Time! Campers will research what makes certain carnival games more popular than others. Next campers will be challenged with developing their own carnival games that include some element of math along with the elements they found that make certain car-nival games popular. The games they create will include elements of geometry, fractions, and many other concepts. After students have developed their ideas and create their carnival games, they will hold their own “Summer Carni-val” to wrap up this session of camp.

August 1–12 Grades 3-5Calling all future CEOs! Do you dream of one day own-ing a business? Campers will use their creativity to dream up a summer business idea they think will help them to make a profit. Once their ideas have been developed, they will plan for materials needed and research products to help with setting prices. Learn about how to staff the business. Finally, they will write out their plan and create an advertisement for their new business.

Reading/Writing

July 18–29 Grades 1-2Calling all reporters! Learn what it takes to write an article for a kids’ news magazine like Scholastic News. Campers will work together to create and publish a news magazine throughout this session. Campers with have the chance to select ideas for articles, work together to write articles and work as illustrators.

August 1–12 Grades 1-2What is a hero? Who is your hero? Read, discuss, and compare picture books about heroes while also looking at the elements of writing that help us to tell the stories of heroes. Campers will identify the way details are used in writing to help tell a story and make that story come alive. Campers will then brainstorm a list of who they see as heroes and then create and illustrate short writing pieces that tell about the heroes they’ve selected.

July 18–29 Grades 3-5How would you rate it? Campers will first practice what it means to develop their opinions about a specific topic and support those opinions. Next, campers will spend time exploring books from various genres, magazines, and music. They will write reviews of what they read and listen to and share it with their peers. The end of this camp session will culminate with the completion of a group review book that showcases each camper’s work.

August 1–12 Grades 3-5You be the expert! What is it that you know a lot about? Is there something that your friends and family always ask you about because they know you know the most about it? During this session campers will tap into their skill set to determine what it is that they know the most about. They will also delve into books, essays and articles written by various people who are experts in their fields. Campers will close out the session by writing their own “expert” book, article or essay to share with their families and other campers.

Adventures in Computer ProgrammingIn support of the growing educational movement known as “The Hour of Code,” this new addition camp lineup aims to provide a fun and nurturing environment for adolescents to learn all about coding and computer programming. Watch your child feel pride after creat-ing their own coding based masterpiece! Focused on the idea of strengthening basic math and logic skills through learning computer science, each camp project is designed to teach middle-school-aged campers the concepts of cod-ing. In this beginners level camp experience, your child will have the opportunity to be exposed to many different aspects of the big wide world of coding.

Video Game ProgrammingDoes your child like to play video games? Do they ever mention to you their dream video game and what it looks like? The “E” in STEAM – Engineering Design & Biomedical EngineeringExplore two different topics – engineering design and biomedical engineering. Students will practice the cycli-cal engineering design process during the engineering design portion as they create fun and functional designs. In small groups they will design items such as supportive structures, moon rovers, mechanical hands, balloon cars, and even their own Rube Goldberg machines! Biomedical engineering studies engineering principles and concepts as they relate to medicine and biology for healthcare pur-poses. Different medical mysteries and discoveries are ex-plored, some of which include, EdHead virtual surgeries, criminal investigations using DNA, virtual dissections, choose a prostheses, and even some real dissections!

Matt Piszko, CoordinatorJoin us for a jam packed experience! Students will work in groups at their own skill level. Beginners with less than 6 months of experience will learn how to properly hold the instrument, learn the notes on all 6 strings, play basic beginning chords, start reading notes and tablature and play some easy guitar riffs. Intermediate to advanced students will have the opportunity to learn and perform alone and in a group ensemble at their own level of proficiency. Campers will explore playing in different styles, position playing, advanced chord forms, scales, soloing and improvisational theory and tech-niques, and reading in several styles. Jeff Johnson, DirectorJeff Johnson is a former assistant SBHS football coach for 5 years, including the 2012 State Championship year, and has over 11 years of high school quarterback/wide receiver coaching experience. He is assisted by Kevin Drakes, current assistant coach at SBHS and former player at Wilkes University.The objective of this camp is to develop each player to his fullest potential and to teach the fundamentals of his posi-tion. This is reinforced with dozens of repetitions at each practice along with emphasizing character development and leadership. The 13th annual Viking Baseball Camp staff will provide the fundamentals to young baseball players. Play-er development will cover five key areas: pitching, hitting, fielding, throwing and base running. Mindy Verderami, DirectorMindy Verderami is the former Head Coach for the high school team and is the current Central Jersey II Gymnastics Director for NJSIAA. She is joined by fellow coaches, teach-ers, and members of the SBHS gymnastics team. Campers will be divided into three groups. The Basic Camp will include learning new skills, techniques and fundamentals for students who have little experience in gymnastics. The Intermediate Camp is geared towards campers who have mastered basic skills (ex: cartwheel on beam, back walkovers on floor, etc.) and techniques. The Advanced Camp is designed for campers who have mas-tered all basic and intermediate skills and techniques, and will prepare gymnasts for the upcoming Varsity season or competitions by advancing their skill level.
