Children with Special Health Care Needs

Finding a summer camp or program is only part of sending your child to camp. Other issues to think about include how to communicate with camp staff, what to pack, and how to help if your child gets homesick. These articles and resources address these concerns. Camp Fire Day Camp

Camp Fire’s Summer Day Camp serves children with and without disabilities in a mainstreamed setting

The program seeks to include children with mild to moderate disabilities depending on volunteer availability. Children needing extra assistance are matched with trained teen helpers.

Eleven day camps operate for one week each at parks throughout the area using caring, well-trained, responsible volunteer staff

Community Care Camp (Day Camp)

We have two engaging and safe recreation facilities in West Seattle to provide a therapeutic day camp during school holiday and summer breaks for children needing specialized care due to behavioral difficulties.

Our camp is different than other camps because it is designed for children with behavioral issues, mental health diagnoses, developmental disabilities, or for those in special education.

Apex Summer Day Camp

Our summer camp program focuses on building children’s social skills and self-esteem within the context of structured recreational and learning activities.

We partner with parents to provide education and training, as well as daily reports, so that new skills can be practiced.

Targets of treatment include improvements in the quality of peer interactions, increases in self-efficacy and confidence, and enhanced self-regulation of emotions and behavior.
