Director’s Letter

With a world filled with choices, thank you for choosing Summer Fenn Day Camp as the premier day camp for your child.

At Summer Fenn we hire only the best and most qualified staff to work with your children. Our team is a combination of public and private school teachers, outdoor educators, experienced artists, theatre professionals, athletes, coaches and mature college students pursuing a career in education. Their professionalism coupled with their commitment to making each child’s experience a positive and memorable one is what makes Summer Fenn stand out above the rest.

We understand that each child is unique and therefore offer three types of programs to appeal to a variety of interests. Our General Camp Program (page 3-4) for campers ages 5-15 offers a well-balanced mix of camp activities including Red Cross swim lessons, Adventure, Arts, Sports, Nature and a wide range of elective options. For our older campers, we offer over twenty different Special Programs (pages 7-10) that range from theatre arts to robotics, from fine arts to athletics. Our Day Tripper Programs (pages 11-12) give campers the opportunity to visit a wide variety of exciting places around New England while experiencing our same commitment to excellence. At Summer Fenn, there is something for everyone.

This summer we are thrilled to be adding a Teen Leadership Program (page 4) to our already diverse and abundant summer programming. Campers entering grades 9-11 will work with our dynamic and professional staff to learn new skills while taking part in camp life, getting involved in community service, venturing off campus, and building relationships with their peers. We are looking forward to offering these teens a positive leadership experience that they can bring back to their homes, schools and communities!

Summer Fenn is an enriching and enjoyable program that your camper will want to be a part of. Make this The Best Summer Ever!

Sincerely,

The Summer Fenn Wayour PhiLosoPhy: ensuring everyone has a fantastic experience!

Our General Camp program provides campers ages 5-15 with the opportunity to experience a variety of active, creative and fun activities under the guidance of our talented staff. It allows campers to build self confidence, create lasting friendships, and make their own choices in a safe and supportive environment.

General Camp counselors lead campers through a well-balanced and diverse schedule that includes Red Cross Swim Lessons, Adventure, Arts & Crafts, Nature, and Sports and Games, getting to know their campers individually and as a group. They assist campers in all of our program areas, helping to ensure that each camper has a positive experience along the way. Our experienced Activity Specialists join groups to lead our program areas, engaging campers with thoughtful, age-appropriate activities and projects and allowing each camper to be successful and participate at a comfortable level.

General Camp is offered all eight weeks of Summer Fenn in either one- or two-week sessions. The schedule and activities change weekly to encourage campers to join us for multiple weeks. Campers are placed in co-ed groups based on their age and the grade they will be entering the following fall. All General Campers participate in our Elective Program and in Friday Special Events (see pages 5-6).

information & registration

Lunch Relax, there’s no need to pack a lunch! At Summer Fenn, we understand the importance of providing a hot lunch, complete with salad bar, snacks, and all the fixings for a full day. Hot lunch is included in the tuition for all full day campers, and a bag lunch is provided for our Day Trippers. Visit our website, www.summerfenn.org, to see our weekly lunch menu. If your child has any special dietary needs or concerns, please contact the Camp Director.

No Nuts! For the safety of campers and staff, all of our lunch menu and snack items are peanut and tree nut safe. We do not serve peanut butter or food products containing peanuts or tree nuts. We supply alternatives such as cream cheese or sunflower butter. We ask that all campers respect this safety concern by leaving any food containing nuts or nut products at home.

Extended Day Summer Fenn offers a fun and safe Extended Day program during scheduled hours from 7:30-8:45AM and 4-6PM. Campers dropped off earlier than 8:45AM or not picked up by 4:15PM are considered part of Extended Day. Afternoon snack is always provided. Sign up for morning or afternoon sessions or both. Activities are varied and flexible, ranging from recreational swim to arts and crafts. Last pick up is by 6PM. There is a late charge of $5.00 per minute after 6PM.

Drop-in Extended Day We understand there are times when things come up and you cannot be on time to pick up your camper. Drop-in Extended Day is available at an hourly rate billed directly to families.

NOTE: There will be NO EXTENDED DAY from 4-6PM on Friday, August 16. Please make arrangements to pick up your camper by 4PM.

Friend Request We try to accommodate each camper’s request to be with friends; however, our main concern is to provide a well-balanced group experience for everyone. To do this, we need to first consider grade, age, gender, and maximum group size. Therefore, while we are typically able to honor these requests, we make no guarantees. List your request on the registration form and make sure that your friend lists you on his or her application. All friend requests must be made in writing by May 1, 2013.

Enrollment and Fees Enrollment in all of Summer Fenn programs is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Our programs are open to all girls and boys interested in an enriching summer experience. For all of our programs, the tuition includes lunch, snack, t-shirt, field-trip admissions, and program-related supplies. See the Tuition Schedule on the back of the registration form for specific program tuition and information about our Sibling Discount.

Registration To register, please complete both sides of the registration form (available on our website as a writable PDF) and mail it along with your non-refundable and non-transferable deposit, $50 per week, per camper. We accept Visa, Mastercard and checks payable to: Summer Fenn Day Camp (SFDC). Once your registration is processed, you will receive a confirmation packet that contains all pertinent camp information. Registrations are on-going until a program is full. All balances are due on or before May 1, 2013.

We work hard to honor all registrations. If payment in full is not received by May 1, 2013, your camper’s registration may be cancelled. We appreciate and request that you communicate with our office concerning any additions, deletions, or changes to your camper’s registration.

Transportation Transportation to and from Summer Fenn is available at convenient pick-up and drop-off points for an additional charge. Campers will ride school buses operated by a local independent company and each bus will be monitored by a Summer Fenn staff member. To enroll, complete and return the Transportation Registration Form with full payment. Learn more about our transportation service, including fees, on the Transportation Registration Form and on our website. All policies and procedures related to refunds and camper behavior are outlined in the Parent Handbook and Statement of Responsibility and apply to the provision of transportation by Summer Fenn Day Camp.

Carpool Another option is our extremely successful carpool list. To add yourself to the list, simply indicate your interest on the Camper Registration Form and your information will be shared with other interested families on the carpool list.

Medical Information Under Massachusetts state law, all campers must have a Health Form on file before attending camp. This includes a Camper Health history completed by the family and an immunization record signed by a doctor within 24 months of their camp attendance. Authorization Forms are also required for the administration of prescription and over-the-counter medications. A Health and Permission Form can be found on our website under camp forms and will be mailed to you upon receipt of your registration form. Please contact the Director of Summer Fenn, Beth Johns-Thomas, with any specific questions regarding medical concerns.

Refund Policy We will provide a refund, minus the $50 non-refundable deposit per week, if we receive written notice of cancellation by May 1, 2013. If illness occurs following the May 1, 2013 deadline, we must receive a written request for a refund, accompanied by a doctor’s note stating that camp attendance is medically inadvisable; we will issue a refund, less the $50 deposit per week. The $50 deposit is non-transferable and cannot be applied to weeks for which a balance is still owed. When space permits, campers may be able to change sessions for which they are registered. After May 1, 2013, no refund or reduction in fees is possible for a child who drops a week or program, arrives late, leaves early, or attends only part of a session.

Financial Aid Limited aid is available and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Please call or email the Camp Director, Beth Johns-Thomas, for more information.
