SUMMER FUN PHASE 2 The Governor’s Phase 2 plan (Executive Order 141) does allow for programs for children and teens if they operate in full compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services expectations. Things will be different but, for those families interested and willing to comply with the conditions of the policy, we will offer our Summer Fun! We will limit SciFun classes, Sunrise Science and Afternoon Adventures to 8 campers and have AM and PM sessions. Please let us know of any requested group- ings when registering. Examples of this are siblings and close friends. We WILL NOT be able to move children around on the day of camp. The schedule remains the same with camp starting June 1. These are the guidelines for Phase 2 based on CDC recommendations, and as the summer goes on these plans may be amended as we enter less restricted times. • We will not offer the preschool/kindergarten classes or sunrise science for pre-k. • SciFun classes will not include visits to the Millholland Planetarium. • We will be unable to take field trips in Afternoon Adventures due to the inability to stay socially distanced in vans. • Masks will be required under Phase 2 guidelines. • Campers will remain in the same room for most of the day. • Note pick-up and drop-off changes. Big changes to Summer Fun include: SciFun classes will align as best as possible with their original themes and activities. There may be changes. Campers will maintain a 6 feet distance from others (unless they are siblings or have been working together through the pandemic) and work with their own materials (including dissection specimen). Each camper will have their own kit of materials and only share items when needed that will be wiped down between use. Each classroom will have hand sanitizer for use when needed. Classes that can be will be held outdoors (Nature Fun***). Campers must bring their own water bottle because water fountains will be blocked off from use. If your child runs out of water a counselor will fill up their water bottle for them. Due to the inability to stay socially distant in a vehicle, there will be no traveling by van. SUMMER FUN PHASE 2

The Governor’s Phase 2 plan (Executive Order 141) does allow for programs for children and teens if they operate in full compliance with the Department of Health and Human Services expectations. Things will be different but, for those families interested and willing to comply with the conditions of the policy, we will offer our Summer Fun! We will limit SciFun classes, Sunrise Science and Afternoon Adventures to 8 campers and have AM and PM sessions. Please let us know of any requested group-ings when registering.

• We will not offer the preschool/kindergarten classes or sunrise science for pre-k.• SciFun classes will not include visits to the Millholland Planetarium.• We will be unable to take field trips in Afternoon Adventures due to

the inability to stay socially distanced in vans.• Masks will be required under Phase 2 guidelines.• Campers will remain in the same room for most of the day.• Note pick-up and drop-off changes.

Big changes to Summer Fun include:

• SciFun classes will align as best as possible with their original themes and activities. There may be changes.

• Campers will maintain a 6 feet distance from others (unless they are siblings or have beenworking together through the pandemic) and work with their own materials (includingdissection specimen).

• Each camper will have their own kit of materials and only share items when needed that will bewiped down between use.

• Each classroom will have hand sanitizer for use when needed.• Classes that can be will be held outdoors (Nature Fun***).• Campers must bring their own water bottle because water fountains will be blocked off from

use. If your child runs out of water a counselor will fill up their water bottle for them.• Due to the inability to stay socially distant in a vehicle, there will be no traveling by van. There

will be outdoor adventures that do not require vehicular transportation.

***Nature Fun participants must be picked up and dropped off at Glenn Hilton, Jr. Memorial Park. Full Day campers will be excluded from this camp option unless the campers have their own transportation to and from CSC.

Procedural changes are listed below; if you have any questions please email [email protected] or call Toni Abernathy at 828-455-9931.

What to expect:

As the summer goes on these plans maybe amended as we enter less restricted times.

Changed policies for Summer Fun:

We will check-in campers and review the participant health screening questions for all participants. Please remember to provide your own pen. These questions are:

• Do you or do any of the children you are dropping off have a fever*, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, new loss of taste or smell (vomiting or diarrhea, children only)?

• Have you or any of the children you are dropping off:• Had any of these symptoms since last time you were last here?

o Been in contact with anyone with fever*, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, new loss of taste or smell (vomiting or diarrhea, children only) since the last time you were here?

o Potentially been exposed** to COVID-19 or have reason to believe you/they have COVID-19

*Fever is determined by a thermometer reading 100.4 or higher or by subjective signs such as flushed cheeks, fatigue, extreme fussiness, chills, shivering, sweating, achiness, headache, not eating or drinking.**Exposure is sharing a household or having close contact with anyone with COVID 19 or has symptoms of COVID 19.

If any responses are positive, we will not admit you for programs. Signing your children in will be a record of negative responses to these questions.

Instead of signing participants into their classrooms, staff will greet parents in the North drive which is located on the Patrick Beaver Library side of CSC. To expedite pickup in the afternoons, call upon arrival and CSC staff will help return children to waiting cars in the North drive.

Procedures:• Wash your hands for 20 seconds each time you

enter the building, before and after lunch/snack,and each time you use the restroom.

• Keep your mask on unless instructed otherwise, forsnacks, lunch and appropriately socially-distancedactivities.

CAMP LOCATIONSummer Fun activities are contained in the West Education Building for the most part. During the morning and afternoons, campers have a ‘home base’ classroom with other similarly aged campers. During these times, campers can be in the science center exhibits or outside on the SALT Block’s grounds in addition to field trips during the afternoon. SciFun classes are also held in West. Class field trips will be noted in the description.

CHECK-IN/SIGN-OUT POLICYAll children must be checked in and signed out by a parent or authorized adult. All check-ins take place in the lobby of the West Wing Building or Glen Hilton Park. For the security of all children, you must sign out those attending only SciFun Classes in their individual classrooms. For the safety of all Summer Fun campers, staff, and volunteers the doors to classroom hallways will be locked during working hours. The number to reach a CSC staff person will be on the door to gain entry. Please call ahead if you are not familiar with classroom locations. Parents with special needs may ask for exceptions to this procedure. Please call CSC’s Public Programs Coordinator to make advance arrangements. Special needs may include parents who have very young children in strollers or those who cannot negotiate flights of stairs.

LUNCHES AND SNACKSCampers attending the Summer Fun Afternoon Adventures must bring a bag lunch and drink. Microwave and refrigerator are not available for campers’ use. Additional snacks are highly recommended. Children arriving for the Sunrise Science are also encouraged to bring a small snack.

PROHIBITED ITEMSFor the safety of children and their belongings, we request that Summer Fun participants do not bring any electronic devices. If cell phones are parent-approved, they must be kept out of sight at all times. Also prohibited are shoes with wheels.

PARKING POLICYWhen checking in or picking up your child, you must park in a designated parking space. Please do not stop your vehicle in the driveway. Parking is available in the North and South Lobby entrance areas and along Third Ave NE in front of the buildings.
