SUMMER 2010

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-Mandy Oxlade

Dear Friends

It was so nice to see our old friends that visited us at our last monthly

social. It was a very enjoyable time catching up on all of their news

and enjoying time together. Everyone enjoyed activity two.

Since the last news letter the club has been busy with various

activities. First of all I would like to say how interesting and

informative the trip to Halton House was. I really enjoyed it. My

thanks go to Lin Smith for arranging the trip.

Now that summer has arrived it is time for the start of the dry sports

season and in true AADC fashion as soon as the 1st May comes

round we are off and running to the first sports meeting of the year.

Looking forward, we have own club games coming up on the 26th

June. If there is anyone that can spare a few hours on the day to help

run an event or help in anyway please contact either Lin Smith or

Roy Carter.

If anyone has any items for the next newsletter please send them to

me or Chris.

WORLD NEW AGE KURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday 29th

April 3 members went off to Scotland for the

weekend to take part in the world new age kurling competition. We

went from Reading and travelled as far as Lancaster. We stayed in a

Premier Inn for the night, then on the Friday morning got up and

continued on our way. We all got into the car and I tried to set up the

sat nav but when I put in the post code for where we were going it

kept telling us that it could not find it. On checking later on we found

out the reason was that we had not changed the country setting from

England to Scotland. We arrived in Scotland around lunch time. In

the evening Mandy, Chris and I met up with one of Mandy’s school

friends Audrey and her family. We went for a meal with them. On

the Saturday it was the singles competition where we had to play in

the group stages and we had to play 3 or 4 matches. Each match was

six ends and you played with all four stones. We were all knocked

out at this stage so we all went through to the plate competition and

Chris and Derek got through to the second round. In the evening we

attended a social event which was nice. On Sunday it was the pairs

competition and we all played in the main event. Chris and Mandy

just missed out on going through to the second round in the main

event. We all went into the plate and my partner and I went through

to the semi finals.

TENPIN BOWLING

On Saturday 15th

May we attended the tenpin Bowling tournament at

Kingston. For the first time this year we managed to take 2 teams.

We had a great time and we really enjoyed the event. It was nice to

see one of our members that we don’t see that often at this event. My

thanks also go to Jamie Bidmead (Mandy’s nephew) who stepped in

at short notice on the Friday evening as we had a member call to say

she could not make it. Both of our teams did well. Michael’s team

came 7th

and my team came 6th

. My team scored 1211 and Michael’s

team scored 1181.
