Dear Incoming Kindergarteners,

Congratulations for completing Pre-K! We are very

excited that you will be joining us for kindergarten for the

2017-2018 school year.

While having fun during the summer months, please

remember to keep your brain active and engaged! We are

sending home a “Summer Packet” of activities for you to

complete of the summer. Your “Summer Packet” consists

of two parts: READING and MATH! 😊

Please work on the assignments over the summer months

and hand it in to your kindergarten teacher. It is DUE ON

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2017.

On the following pages, you will find READING activities

and MATH WORKSHEETS for you to complete over the

summer.

Please read the instructions for each activity to complete

the assignment successfully. Feel free to “go beyond” the

minimum expectations! These activities are planned to

keep our brains turned on this summer; so that you will be

ready for kindergarten, and not forget all that you have

learned in Pre-K.

Have a wonderful, safe summer, and we will see you in

August!

READING:

There are about 10 full weeks of summer

vacation. We ask that you visit your local library

to get a library card for your child. You may also

use books that you have at home. We ask that

you read 8-10 books during the summer.

After you read each book with your child, please

complete the form on the following page. Use one

form for each book that is read.

COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PAGES WITH

YOUR CHILD:

1) Have your child print his/her name on the

top line.

2) Have your child print the TITLE of the

BOOK on the next line.

3) Have your child DRAW a PICTURE about

his/her favorite part of the story.

4) WRITE a few words about the story on the

lines provided.

OTHER SKILLS TO WORK ON OVER THE

SUMMER:

Please read with your child daily. Oral

reading is an integral part of our

Kindergarten program.

Please work with your child so that he/she is

able to recognize all of the letters of the

alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase.

While you are outside, ask your child, “What

letter does grass begin with?” – flowers,

pool, etc. You may also do these same

activities while you are driving in the car.

Please practice recognizing and printing

numbers from one to ten.

Please practice printing the letters of the

alphabet A-Z.

Please practice printing the letters in your

child’s first name.
