Music and Movement Classes: An Introduction to the Orchestra We have a fun, engaging, and educational curriculum for the youngest musicians in your family. Throughout the six-week program, your child will learn about all of the different families of the orchestra while moving, shaking, singing, and having a great time!

Music 102: De-composed Adults 21+

Music 102: De-composed Building off of the popularity of Music 101: Music for Dummies, Music 102 will offer an in-depth, whimsical review of the great composers, featuring musicians and staff of the TSO. Each week, we will highlight two composers and you decide who wins in a head-to-head battle in the cage-match of lasting legacy and compositional influence! Featured composers include Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Brahms, Shostakovich, Handel, Mahler and more.

Chamber Ensemble Day Camp Playing in a group is a great way to develop new skills and make new friends. Being coached by members of the Toledo Symphony family makes it even better! Join us for a challenging, yet motivating week. Expect daily rehearsal time, coachings, con-ducting classes, and seminars. Showcase what you learned on the recital Saturday, July 14 (10 a.m.) Pre-formed groups are encouraged to apply, or you will be placed in an appropriate level class. Music will be sent to you in June so you can be prepared for your first day of camp! Repertoire will be determined based on level and instru-mentation of those enrolled. Anticipated enrollment is that of Suzuki mid-Book 2 and above, approximately ages 10-18.

Do you want to play in a chamber group, but are out of town the week of camp? Are you over the age of 18 and want to play in your own group? We may be able to accommodate you! Receive 6 hours of coaching for $100, scheduled at the convenience of your coach and your group. Look for this option on the registra-tion form.

*Due to the generous support of our community partners, the TSSM is pleased to offer Chamber Camp at a special rate of $100. Additional financial support is available through Community Music Lesson funding. Students who qualify will be able to attend at no cost. Please do not let finances prevent YOU from participating!

Flutes at Ohio Living Swan Creek Area flutists (ages 16+) are invited to gather for weekly flute choir reading sessions in May and June at Swan Creek Community. An added bo-nus: we get to share our music with an appre-ciative audience as our friends at Swan Creek are invited to stop by and listen to our music-making. Instructor: Amy Heritage Day: Wednesdays Time: 7-8:30 p.m. Beginning Date: May 23 Number of Classes: 6 Tuition: $60 for all classes or drop in for $15/class Location: Swan Creek Community Age: 16+ Instrument: Flute Experience: Yes, ability to read music Please bring: Flutes, piccolos, alto and bass flutes and a folding stand

Jumpstart Flute! A four-day introduction to the flute and flute playing. This mini-flute camp is for students ages 5-7 who are interested in learning to play the flute. Instruments will be provided for this class. Our flute instructor, Amy Heritage, will share flute stories and music, and introduce the basics of flute playing. We’ll have flute-related crafts and musical snacks. Parents are encouraged to observe classes. On Day 4 of our program, TSSM director Rachel Zeithamel will offer a special workshop for parents about the Suzuki method of music learning. Parents will rejoin our young flutists for a “grand finale” performance to conclude our time together. Stu-dents who wish to continue their private lesson flute study with Miss Amy after Jumpstart Flute may do so at a reduced rate. Instructor: Amy Heritage Days: Monday through Thursday Time: 9-10:30 a.m. Dates: June 25-28 Number of Classes: 4 Tuition: $60 Age: Ages 5-7 This is for flutists with no prior experience.

Violin Group Class Take advantage of extra time in the summer to participate in violin group class! Group classes are an important aspect of Suzuki lessons. It is very motivating for students to play and learn from others in a group setting. TSSM faculty member Sarah Magoun will lead a progressive Violin Book 1 class this summer. Come at the time listed below for your student’s level and stay until the music is beyond your reach! Fiddle Camp *New Format this year! Come to Fiddle Camp! This year, In addition to our annual performance before “Music Under the Stars” at the Toledo Zoo on July 29, students will again have the opportunity to perform in the Lathrop House’s Celebration of Freedom on August 4. This summer, classes will be scheduled in a “camp” format, meeting daily for six consec-utive days. Music will be available with ample time to learn and memorize before camp week. Register by June 11 so you can get your music! Instructor: Cheryl Trace Day: Monday through Saturday Time: 9-9:40 a.m.—Jr. Fiddle* 9:45-10:30 a.m. – Advanced Fiddle* Dates: July 23-28 Number of Classes: 6 Tuition: $72 Instrument: Violin *Jr. Fiddle is appropriate for students studying “Perpetual Motion” in Suzuki Book 1, through “Two Grenadiers” in Book 2, or equivalent level, or by permission of teacher. *Advanced Fiddle is appropriate for stu-dents studying “Witches’ Dance” and be-yond in the Suzuki Violin Books, or equiva-lent with permission of the instructor.

Jumpstart Cello! A five-day introduction to the cello. This intensive is for students ages 6-12 who are in the early stages of cello study, with zero to one year of cello experience. TSSM facul-ty member Taylor Stobinski will cover basics such as instrument care and handling, prop-er set-up, as well as beginning fundamentals that will set the stage for success when for-mal instruction begins. This class can be used as an introduction to the cello for stu-dent who want to begin study in the fall and as a way for currently playing students to learn with more focused attention. Students who wish to continue their private lesson cello study at the TSSM after Jumpstart Cello may do so at a reduced rate. Instructor: Taylor Stobinski Day and Time: Monday through Friday, 9-10:30 a.m. Dates: July 30-August 3 Number of Classes: 5 Tuition: $72 Age: Ages 6-12 This class is appropriate for students with zero experience as well as students in their first two years of cello study.

Continue your one-on-one work with your private teacher this sum-mer. Sign up for as many lessons as agreed upon with your teacher. Piano Bootcamp Current piano students can participate in this one week intensive and see how much can be accomplished in a short time! Joining with other pianists, students will review and finesse repertoire indi-vidually and in groups. Together, we’ll set the stage for learning the challenges of new pieces. Students will receive feedback on their practice from the summer so far, and guidance for practicing the rest of the summer, as well as develop comfort with performing, listening, and giving and receiving constructive feedback. Instructor: Dr. Jeff Manchur Day: Monday-Friday Date: June 25-29 Time: 4-5 p.m.—Book 1 5-6 p.m.—Book 2+ Number of Classes: 5 Tuition: $72 Instrument: Piano, Suzuki students

Registering for Private Lessons

Current TSSM students: Please discuss summer lessons with your teacher prior to filling out a registration form. Once the form is completed, return with payment to the TSSM office PRIOR to your first lesson.

New TSSM students: Complete the registration form to the best of your ability, leaving the number of lessons blank. Once your form has been received, the office will work to place you with a teacher, who will contact you directly to arrange lesson time and start date. At that point, total tuition will be figured. One month’s tuition is due PRIOR to your first lesson.

If you have any questions regarding private lessons or any of our group classes, please contact the office. The TSSM reserves the right to cancel classes that do not meet minimum enrollment.
