NEWSPAPER REPORT: Let’s have a quick recap of how to set out a newspaper report…
Newspapers are facts about an event or happening. They are broken up into sections (paragraphs) and each
section gives some sort of information to the reader.
Orientation (introduction) answers the questions WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY (5 W’s) – Who was
involved? What happened? Where did it happen? When did it happen? and Why?
These are short sentences giving quick facts to the reader, it does not explain anything.
Paragraph 1 – tells us more about what happened. Describe the event
Paragraph 2 – use dialogue (what did the person you interviewed say)
Paragraph 3 – conclusion.
Let’s explore a newspaper

You are going to write your own newspaper report about what happened at the theme park. Give your newspaper
article a title and think about what you are going to include in your article. Use the plan on the next slide to help
you plan your writing. Once you have planned your report, write it in neat. Don’t forget to draw a picture with a
caption (caption tells us what the picture is about).
