SUMMERTIME. . . . and the living is easy. . .

Once upon a Summer day,

Birds chirped in a musical way,

Grass drenched in the morning dew,

The sky covered in a vast colour of blue.

Once upon a summer day,

Flowers bloomed in full array,

Bright rays of sunlight spilled

Upon my garden on the hill.

Once upon a summer day,

Thunder rumbled and prolonged its stay,

But after the rain tumbled down,

This summer day wore a glorious rainbow crown. Joseph T. Renaldi

When does Summer Start?

Well, that depends upon whether you want the meteorological or astronomical answer.

The Meteorological Summer is1st June to 31st August 2017 The meteorological seasons consists of splitting the seasons into four periods made up of 3 months each. These seasons are split to coincide with our Gregorian Calendar, making it easier for observing and forecasting to compare seasonal and monthly statistics.

The Astronomical Summer is 21st June to 22nd September 2017 The astronomical calendar determines the seasons due to the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth’s rotational axis in relation to its orbits around the Sun. Both equinoxes and solstices are related to the Earths orbit around the Sun.

So now you know. . . and if you are looking for things to do during the

Summer, particularly in the school holidays, have a look inside to find out

what is going on. Enjoy your Summer and be safe, don’t forget:

SLIP on a shirt, SLOP on the sunscreen, SLAP on a hat

Councillor Updates

The Meadows

Pleased to see the new play equipment on The Green which is highly welcomed and heavily

used. Bins for the site are on order and will be installed shortly, but in the meantime please dispose

of litter responsibly, and we're going to put in goal posts alongside which have been part funded by

Keepmoat. The play area has been part paid for with tram money as compensation for the

inconvenience to the community during the tram works.

Parking permits have given many residents their streets back. Pressure on parking space is now

most acute on Meadows Way West and on the south end of Arkwright Walk. Whilst we want Robin

Hood Way to be available for general parking, a review is now needed with respect to keeping bus

stands clear and having good visibility near places where pedestrians want to cross and at junctions

where cars want to join the main road. Let us know of what points you want to see addressed.

Quite a few complaints about the size canopies of trees in public land. If you have a concern, make

sure it's reported.

Some improvements are planned for Queens Walk Recreation Ground and a new mini-road system

for kiddies learning to cycle may well be built alongside the play equipment off Victoria Embankment

by the end of June.

We are looking at the possibility of carrying out some boundary improvements which will include

improved fencing, see unused parcels of land incorporated into people's gardens on streets where

the environmental improvements are needed the most and near to housing nearest to the new

council housing. Again, any ideas, send them in.

We know the main concern is some of the anti-social behaviour around The Meadows and partner

services are working to address this.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CLLR MICHAEL EDWARDS ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS MAYOR

CLIFTON COMMUNITY AND FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP

Clifton Community and Family Support Group (CCFSG) was founded by Karen Humble. After finding herself and her family in difficulty, not knowing where

to get help from, Karen decided that she never wanted anyone else to ever feel that way again and

the idea of setting up a support group was born.

Clifton Community and Family Support Group is a small local Charity run by Karen and her team of

local volunteers that want to make a difference in the community they live in.

The purpose of the charity is to assist and support people in the Clifton area who find themselves

in short term financial difficulty. This includes people who have been

victims of fire, flood or victims of domestic violence. We also support people short term who have

difficulty with the benefits system.

In addition to supporting local people financially, CCFSG organises events in the community.

These events are a way of bringing the community together and help create social cohesion and

help prevent isolation of residents.

May Day Family Fun Day, which took place on May 1st, was a great success with about 3000

people visiting the event . There were lots of activities for all the family to enjoy and take part in.

All money raised from these events is poured back into the community to help those in need.

See below for upcoming events. We are also helping other local events in the community either

financially or by members of the team volunteering on the day.

If you need help you can contact CCFSG by
