Both Louisiana-Monroe and Western Kentucky became bowl eligible on Saturday by earning their sixth wins of the season. Both teams stand at 6-2 on the year. Two Sun Belt teams, Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee, took a step closer to becoming bowl eligible this past week. Arkansas State had a big showing on ESPN2 on Tuesday night against Louisiana-Lafayette to earn its fi fth win of the season. Middle Tennessee picked up its fi fth win of the season with a win over North Texas on Saturday. Both teams are 5-3 on the season. Middle Tennessee will meet Western Kentucky in a Thursday night ESPNU tilt. Both teams are 3-1 in conference play and a

win for either team will help keep Sun Belt Championship hopes alive. ULM currently has the advantage with an undefeated 4-0 mark and Arkansas State is also in the mix with its 3-1 conference record. In addition to the Thursday night ESPNU game between the Blue Raiders and Hilltoppers, three games on Saturday will be televised. Florida Atlantic and Troy both play out of conference games that will be televised. The Sun Belt Network game of the week will feature foes Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe. The game taking place in M0nroe. will be featured live on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and Cox Sports Television (CST) at 3 p.m. (CT) and will also be available nationally on ESPN3.

ULM, WKU BOWL ELIGIBLE AFTER SATURDAY’S GAMES


Logan Kilgore (Middle Tennessee, r-Jr., QB)Quarterback Logan Kilgore led the aggressive Blue Raider off ense by registering his third career 300-yard game and the fi rst of the season with 349 yards against North Texas. He completed 20-of-30 passes with three touchdowns in the victory. The quarterback made several big yardage completions of 72, 52, 49 and 32 yards. Kilgore also ran for a career-long 45 yard touchdown against the Mean Green. The redshirt junior now ranks for second on the all-time list for 300-yard games with Clint Marks and Kelly Holcomb. It also went down as the 13th career 200-yard passing game and sixth of the season. Kilgore, who ranks third all-time in 200-yard games, is chasing all-time leaders Wes Counts and Clint Marks with 18 in their respective careers. In eight contests this season, Kilgore has thrown 152 completions for 1,930 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Quanterus Smith (WKU, Sr., DL)WKU senior defensive lineman Quanterus Smith had a career night against Florida International on Saturday, recording a career-high fi ve sacks against the Panthers – including one on the fi nal play of the game that forced a fumble secured the Hilltoppers’ victory. Smith now leads the nation in sacks averaging 1.64 per game. His fi ve sacks on Saturday were also the most by any player in the nation in a game this season. In ad-dition to his sack numbers, Smith was also credited with a game-high eight tackles in the game. His eff orts led the Hilltopper defense to record a season-best nine sacks on the evening – which is tied for the third-highest total in a game during the 2012 season.

Brian Davis (Arkansas State, Jr., K)Junior kicker Brian Davis hit all fi ve of his fi eld goal attempts and was a perfect 5-of-5 on extra point attempts to account for 20 points in Arkansas State’s 50-27 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette. Davis’ fi ve fi eld goals, just two shy of matching the NCAA record for a single game, were the most by a Sun Belt Conference player and tied the third most in the nation this season. His 20 points scored by kick were just three shy of his own Sun Belt Conference record and the third most in the nation this year. Davis connected on multiple fi eld goals for the fi fth time this season and 10th time of his career. Both his points scored by kick and fi eld goals made tie the second most in Sun Belt and Arkansas State history. Davis’ fi rst fi eld goal covered 47 yards to tie the longest of his career, while his other makes came from 45, 29, 22 and 21 yards out.Special Teams

WKU, ULM Top SEC Foes

ULM defeated then #8 ranked Arkansas on September 8 and WKU followed up with a win over Kentucky on September 15. The two wins against SEC programs were the fi rst for both institutions, it also marked the fi rst time that Sun Belt Conference has had wins against the SEC in back-to-back weeks. ULM’s win over Arkansas also marked the fi rst time that a Sun Belt Conference team has defeated a top-ten ranked opponent.

ULM’s Browning Tabbed Walter Camp National Off ensive Player of the Week

After leading ULM to 34-31 upset of No. 8 Arkansas Saturday in overtime, junior quarterback Kolton Brown-ing has been named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Off ensive Player of the Week. Browning tallied 481 yards of total off ense and his 16 yard run to the endzone in overtime gave the Warhawks their fi rst-ever win over Arkansas and their fi rst-win over a ranked opponent (as a FBS member). Browning set new career-highs in passing yards (412), completions (42) and attempts (67). The junior also registered a total of 83 plays which ranks second in ULM history for a single-game.

Cunningham Garners National Award

Middle Tennessee senior running back Benny Cunningham was named the AT&T All-America National Player of the Week on Thursday night for his performance in the win at Georgia Tech. ESPN analysts select four players each week and then fan votes determine the overall winner. Cunningham set several career-highs in the upset win over Georgia Tech, including 217 yards rushing, scoring fi ve touchdowns, carrying the pigskin 27 times and registering a career-long 60-yard run. The 60-yard touchdown run was the longest by the Blue Raiders since D.D. Kyles raced 74 yards against Louisiana in 2010. Cunningham’s fi ve rushing touchdowns tied for the second most in a game at Middle Tennessee and moved him to No. 3 nationally in scoring.

Sun Belt Sends Three to Bowls in 2011

The Sun Belt Conference has sent three teams to postseason bowl games for two consecutive seasons. Fol-lowing the 2011 regular season, Louisiana-Lafayette played in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, FIU played in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl and Arkansas State played in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. The three teams playing in the 2011 football postseason matches the previous high set the year prior. ASU, FIU, ULL and Western Kentucky all fi nished the 2011 regular season with bowl eligible records, marking the fourth time in league history that the Sun Belt has had four bowl eligible teams.

Sun Belt Conference Membership

The Sun Belt Conference is currently comprised of ten football playing members – Arkansas State (founding football member in 2001), Florida Atlantic (joined league as football member in 2005), FIU (joined league as football member in 2005), Louisiana-Lafayette (founding football member in 2001), Louisiana-Monroe (founding football member in 2001), Middle Tennessee (founding football member in 2001), North Texas (founding football member in 2001), South Alabama (joined league as football member in 2012), Troy (joined league as football member in 2004) and Western Kentucky University (joined league as football member in 2009). Georgia State, Texas-Arlington and Texas State will join the league on July 1, 2013. UT Arlington joins current Sun Belt members as a non-football playing member.

South Alabama Makes Sun Belt Debut

South Alabama will open the 2012 season on Aug. 30 against Texas San-Antonio where it will make its Sun Belt Conference and FBS debut. The Jaguars will not be eligible for the Sun Belt Conference championship, however, they will play a full Sun Belt schedule where their games will count as conference games for their league opponents. USA will be eligible for the Sun Belt title and a bowl berth in the 2013 season.

Trojan Trio Wins Super Bowl Title

The Trojan Trio of Jerrel Jernigan , Lawrence Tynes and Osi Umenyiora are Super Bowl Champions after the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI. The title is the second for both Tynes and Umenyiora and the fi rst for Jernigan. Troy’s three former players in the Super Bowl (active rosters) were the fi fth most of any school in the country. Tynes, who sent the Giants to the Super Bowl with a game-winning fi eld goal in overtime of the NFC Championship Game, booted fi eld goals of 38 and 33 yards in the third quarter to pull New York within two, 17-15. Jernigan, who in 2010 led the Trojans to their fi fth consecu-tive Sun Belt Conference title, set up Tynes’ fi rst fi eld goal with a 34-yard kickoff return. The rookie fi nished the game with three returns for 71 yards (23.7 per return). Umenyiora fi nished the game with one tackle and a pair of hits on New England quarterback Tom Brady.

Bowl Game Winning Percentage

Since the 2007 football season the Sun Belt Conference ranks fi fth out of the 11 FBS conferences in postsea-son bowl game winning percentage. In fact, the Sun Belt Conference ranks ahead of noted “Big Six” leagues – the ACC, Pac-12 and the Big Ten. Furthermore, the Sun Belt Conference outpaces its non-automatic qualifying BCS partners in the WAC, Conference USA and the MAC.

Sun Belt Conference Bowl Partners

The Sun Belt Conference is currently in the third year of four year partnerships with the GoDaddy.com Bowl and the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Sun Belt teams will continue to represent the league in the games following the 2012 and 2013 regular seasons.

Cristobal Continues to Build FIU

FIU’s Mario Cristobal is undoubtedly one of the hottest rising coaches in college football, taking over the FIU program in 2007 after spending time on Greg Schiano's staff at Rutgers (2001-2003) and Larry Coker's staff at Miami (2004-2006). Cristobal led the Panthers to their fi rst winning season in program history in 2010, winning a share of the Sun Belt Championship and then the Little Caesars Bowl. FIU also fi nished 8-5 in 2011 and received a bid to the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl. Cristobal has shown dedication to the Miami community as he was raised there, played, coached and earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees at the University of Miami and has been FIU’s head coach for fi ve seasons.

Sun Belt Football Championship Trophy to Honor Waters

The annual winner of the Sun Belt Conference’s football regular season will take home the H. Wright Waters Trophy as the league approved the honor at the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Spring Meetings. Waters served as Commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference from 1998 through 2012 and largely responsible for football becoming a league sponsored sport. The Sun Belt had been a viable entity on the nation’s collegiate athletic map since its founding in 1976, but Waters made the call for a serious approach to gaining access to the Football Bowl Subdivision. Due to his leadership the league played its inaugural season under his watch in 2001.

Malzahn Returns Home to Take Over at Arkansas State

Gus Malzahn was named the Red Wolves' 28th head football coach last December, bringing him back to his home state after most recently enjoying highly successful stints as a top assistant coach at three NCAA FBS universities that garnered national acclaim. Malzahn comes to Arkansas State after serving as the off ensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn for the past three seasons. A native of Fort Smith, Malzahn was named the winner of the 2010 Frank Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate as-sistant coach. His innovative off ense made an immediate and profound impact during his tenure at Auburn, highlighted by a record-setting off ense in 2010 when the Tigers fi nished 14-0 and claimed the school's fi rst national championship since 1957. Malzahn's record-setting off ense in 2010 led the Southeastern Confer-ence and fi nished in the top 10 nationally in six statistical categories. He coached Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton during the Tigers run to the 2011 BCS National Championship. Under Malzahn's direction, Newton later became the overall No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft after producing one of the best single-season quarterback performances in collegiate history.



Carl Pelini Begins New Era at Florida Atlantic

Carl Pelini was named Florida Atlantic's second head coach in program history to replace the retired Howard Schnellenberger and brings more than 25 years of football experience to Boca Raton. The Ohio native was a defensive coordinator at Minnesota State Mankato (2004) and helped revitalize a struggling program at Ohio University where he was the defensive line coach for three seasons (2005-07). In 2008, he moved to Nebraska and assumed the position of defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. Pelini's role in the resurgence of Nebraska's defense has been recognized by his two-time nomination for the Frank Broyles Assistant Coach of the Year Award. Prior to his time in the collegiate ranks, Pelini spent more than 10 years at the high school level.

WKU and Taggart Agree to New Contract

Willie Taggart, who guided WKU to the biggest one-season improvement in league wins in Sun Belt Confer-ence history in only the program’s third season competing at the Football Bowl Subdivision level, has agreed to a new four-year contract. The contract began on January 1, 2012 and includes an automatic one-year rollover each year through 2019. WKU’s 7-1 conference record in 2011 after a 2-6 league record a year ago stands as the biggest one-season improvement in Sun Belt Conference history. Taggart leads WKU into 2012 with a seven-game conference winning streak, the fi fth-longest current streak in the country.

Sun Belt and ESPN Announce Multiyear Agreement

The Sun Belt Conference and ESPN reached a new agreement that extends the network’s relationship with the conference through the 2019-20 academic year. The agreement, which will take eff ect beginning in the 2012-13 academic year, will expand the conference’s national television exposure and makes ESPN the exclu-sive national cable and satellite provider of the Sun Belt Conference. The new agreement will give Sun Belt Conference football a minimum of two games on either ESPN or ESPN2 and also a minimum of fi ve games on ESPNU that will be scheduled for Thursday or Friday nights. Additionally, ESPN Regional Television will have the right to produce, distribute and syndicate up to fi ve football games each year. ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network, will also be granted additional opportunities to select games to air. This trio of networks will be granted a 12-day rolling window during the season to select additional games to televise. Games available for selection are after the third Saturday of the season.

Cajuns Grab Top Attendance Increase in NCAA

The Ragin’ Cajuns football team added yet another honor to its list as the NCAA announced that the Univer-sity of Louisiana-Lafayette had the top attendance increase for the 2011 season. The Cajuns had an average increase of 11,788 per game setting both the Sun Belt Conference average and total attendance record and the ULL average attendance record. ULL beat out Arizona State, Stanford, Iowa State, Temple, Florida State and Oklahoma State for the top honor.

Troy’s Chip Reeves Added to Biletnikoff Award List

Troy wide receiver Chip Reeves has been added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, the Tallahassee Quar-terback Club Foundation announced Tuesday morning. Reeves was one of 11 players to be added to the award watch list; the Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation’s top wide receiver.

ASU’s Aplin Named Senior Class Award Finalist

Arkansas State senior quarterback Ryan Aplin was named as one of 10 fi nalists for the prestigious 2012 Senior CLASS Award, annually recognizing an NCAA FBS senior with notable achievements in areas of com-munity, classroom, character and competition. The fi nalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award Web site through Dec. 3. Fan votes will be combined with media and NCAA FBS head head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

ULM’s Browning Added to Maxwell Award List

The Maxwell Football Club today announced the expansion of its 2012 Watch List for the 76th Maxwell Award and ULM junior quarterback was added to the list. The original list was comprised of 65 players, who were selected based on their performances during the 2011 season. As the 2012 season has progressed, the Club believes that several additional players warrant attention because of their noteworthy play.

ULM-Baylor Sets New Sun Belt TV Rating Record

The Louisiana-Monroe vs. Baylor football game that was televised live on ESPN Friday, September 21 was watched by a record number of viewers for the Sun Belt Conference. Friday’s night game was watched by over 2.2 million people with a rating of 1.8 - the highest rated in history for a game involving a Sun Belt Conference team. The previous highest rated game in Sun Belt history was the FIU at Louisville game a season ago that earned a 1.4 rating. The game was the third highest rated college football game that aired on ESPN or ESPN2 last week – trailing only the LSU at Auburn game and the Arizona at Oregon game. The ULM-Baylor game received a higher rating than the BYU at Boise State, Virginia at TCU, UTEP at Wisconsin and Vanderbilt at Georgia games.

ASU Announces $22 Million Football Facility Project

Arkansas State University announced a $22 million football facility project, including a two-level football operations building and 76,000 square-foot indoor practice facility in Liberty Bank Stadium’s north end zone. The new football operations building’s fi rst fl oor will house A-State’s locker room, state-of-the-art strength and conditioning and sports medicine centers, a players lounge and equipment room. The second fl oor will feature coaching and administrative offi ces, team meeting rooms, a history and heritage show-room and a team fi lm room with theatre seating. The indoor practice facility will run east and west and be connected to the north side of the operations building.

2012 Sun Belt Network Football Schedule Announced

Now in its fourth season, the is a joint partnership with Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and Cox Sports Television (CST). Each game will be available in 13 states across the southeast and is often available on ESPN3.com and ESPN GamePlan outside of the CSS and CST markets. The agreement with CSS and CST has resulted in the broadcasting of football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, volleyball, and softball contests throughout the last three seasons. In whole, the Sun Belt Network has been responsible for over 100 events airing on CSS and CST over the past three seasons. The seven games selected for the Sun Belt Network adds to the growing list of football broadcasts that the Sun Belt Conference and its insti-tutions are directly responsible for.

OWL NOTESFlorida Atlantic University’s football team grabbed a 34-27 victory against Sun Belt Conference member Troy University on homecoming. It marked the fi rst SBC victory for fi rst year head coach Carl Pelini and the fi rst time the Owls have defeated Troy at home. The game wasn’t without its heroics. FAU held a 26-17 lead heading into the fourth. The Trojans scored twice and held a 27-26 with 1:49 left in the game. The Owls began their fi nal drive at their own 26-yard line. Senior Graham Wilbert moved the chains with a six-yard completion to William Dukes and a six-yard scramble. Wilbert then found senior Byron Hankerson for a 15-yard catch. Wilbert then alternated passes between Dukes and Nexon Dorvilus, who had six catches for a team-high 78 yards. Dukes also had six catches for 41 yards. While Dorvilus had two touchdowns on the night it was Dukes who had the game-winning catch with a 22-yard reception. The ground attack was led by Jonathan Wallace who had 87 yards. Defensively, Winfred Strickland had his fi rst career interception and a 32-yard return that led to a fi eld goal. Senior Brent Harstad led the Owls for the second consecutive week with 15 tackles.

PANTHER NOTESThe 2012 football schedule places the next two games on the road for the Panthers, as FIU next faces the University of South Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile. Kickoff with the Jaguars is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST.

With a bye-week between games, FIU’s fi nal road-game will come 57 miles north on I-95 at Florida Atlantic University, Friday, Nov. 16, at FAU Stadium. The ESPNU nationally-televised kickoff with the Owls is sched-uled for 8 p.m. The Panthers regular season fi nale will see the ULM Warhawks travel to Miami on Sat., Nov. 24. Kickoff is TBA.

For the fi rst and only time in 2012, FIU will be facing a new opponent in South Alabama. The Jaguars recently joined the Sun Belt Conference for football, and will be a full-member of the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision by 2013, once its planned transition is complete.

Jake Medlock, who threw for 187 yards in the WKU game, moved into No. 4 in career passing yards. He now has 2,086 passing yards, moving ahead of Wayne Younger (2007-10).

Willis Wright surpassed 100 yards receiving for the third-straight game, hauling in fi ve catches for 128 yards vs. WKU. It is the fi rst time in program history an FIU receiver has top the 100-yard receiving mark in three consecutive games.

Wayne Times had fi ve catches for 54 yards in the WKU game, extending his streak to 26-straight games played with at least one reception dating back to the 2010 season. His streak is the third-longest streak in FIU history.

RAGIN’ CAJUN NOTESThe Ragin’ Cajuns football team will look to end a two-game skid this weekend when the squad heads to Monroe, La. on Saturday to face Louisiana-Monroe for the 48th time in the program’s history. Louisiana_Lafayette is coming off of a 50-27 loss to Arkansas State at Cajun Field. The defeat marked the fi rst home loss in the Mark Hudspeth era.

The Cajuns hold a 24-23 series edge over ULM after winning the last four meetings between the two teams.

The Cajuns and Warharks are tied at 11 wins apiece in Monroe.

Junior wide receiver Darryl Surgent has moved into the team lead with 380 yards and three touchdowns after his performance against ASU.

Jamal Robinson also had a breakout game against the Red Wolves posting 106 yards on fi ve catches.

Linebacker Justin Anderson continues to pace the Cajun defense with 56 tackles on the season.

Saturday’s contest between the two teams will be the 20th meeting in Monroe, with the Warhawks holding a 10-9 advantage.

Since falling to Baylor in the home opener on September 21, the Warhawks have won fi ve straight games... It is the fi rst time ULM has won fi ve straight games since 1993 when it was a member of the FCS (1-AA) ranks... The fi ve game streak in 1993 lasted from October 16 to November 13.

The Warhawks are 4-0 in the Sun Belt for the fi rst time since joining the conference... ULM started the confer-ence season 3-0 in both 2005 and 2009 before dropping its fourth league game.

BLUE RAIDER NOTESThe win over North Texas not only erases the bad memory of a 59-7 defeat at the hands of the Mean Green last year but more importantly gives the Raiders a fi fth win. The 5-3 mark after eight games marks the third time under Rick Stockstill MT has started 5-3 with the other occasions being bowl years of 2006 and 2009. It also goes down as the earliest date to fi ve victories since 2001 (Oct. 6).

Wide receiver Kyle Griswould enjoyed a career day against North Texas with three catches for a personal-best 140 yards and two touchdowns. Griswould had scoring plays of 72 and 51 yards with the 72 yarder being a career long for the junior and the third longest play of the season by MT.

With 121 receiving yards, senior Anthony Amos ran his season total to 794 yards. That fi gure ranks 10th on the all-time single-season list at MT. Amos recorded his fi fth career 100-yard receiving game and fourth of the season in the win over North Texas. Amos fi nished with eight catches for 121 yards.

Quarterback Logan Kilgore registered his third career 300-yard passing game and the fi rst of the season with 349 yards against North Texas. Kilgore now ranks tied for second on the all-time list for 300-yard games with Clint Marks and Kelly Holcomb. It also went down as the 13th career 200-yard passing game and sixth of the season. Kilgore, who ranks third all-time in 200-yard games, is chasing all-time leaders Wes Counts and Clint Marks. Both had 18 for their career.

Middle Tennessee’s defense recorded multiple interceptions for the fi rst time since the GoDaddy Bowl against Miami, Ohio in 2011 (bowl of 2010 season). The Blue Raiders fi nished with three interceptions to give them six for the season which is one more than the team had all of 2011.

MEAN GREEN NOTESNorth Texas had three players rush for over 50 yards against Middle Tennessee, which is the fi rst time that has happened since last season against Indiana. However the Mean Green had three running backs top the 50-yard mark against the Blue Raiders, and it is the fi rst time since 2002 that North Texas has had three running backs go over 50 yards in a game. Brandin Byrd, Antoinne Jimmerson, and Jeremy Brown are the fi rst trio to rush for 50-yards since Kevin Galbreath, Patrick Cobbs, and Roy Bishop on November 2, 2002. Quarterback Derek Thompson topped the 200-yard passing mark for a career-best sixth straight time. Thompson is just the fourth player in school history to pass for 200-yards in six straight games and the fi rst since Giovanni Vizza in 2008. With four regular season games remaining, Thompson can tie the school record of 10 straight games with 200 yards passing, set by Mitch Maher in 1994. He now has 10 200-yard career passing games, which is fourth in school history.

Freshman Carlos Harris caught only his second career pass but his fi rst touchdown against MTSU.

Freshman running back Antoinne Jimmerson has rushed for 487 yards on the season, which is the third highest total by a freshman at North Texas since the 1997. Jimmerson has rushed for more yards as a freshman than the all-time leading rusher Lance Dunbar and Patrick Cobbs, who is second all-time. Only Jamario Thomas in 2004 (1,801) and Ja’Quay Wilburn in 1997 (594) have rushed for more yards than Jim-merson. He has rushed for fi ve TD’s, which is the most since Thomas in 2004 and the tied for the second highest total by a freshman since Darrin Collins in 1986.

JAGUAR NOTESSophomore Demetre Baker rushed for 115 yards on 14 carries in the Jaguars’ game at Louisiana-Monroe Saturday, the fi rst time a USA running back has surpassed 100 yards since he collected 111 in a win over Henderson (Ark.) State on Oct. 29 last fall. That included a 61-yard gain late in the fi rst quarter, the longest play from scrimmage for USA this season, that set up the fi rst score of the game. Baker is averaging 83 yards per game in Sun Belt Conference play. … Jeremé Jones caught a Jag season-best seven passes for 62 yards against the Warhawks, both totals that led the team in the contest. The sophomore had two touch-down receptions in the fi rst half, the fi rst time a USA player recorded multiple touchdown catches since Courtney Smith had a pair on Oct. 23, 2010, in a 24-21 victory at UC Davis; the eff ort also helped Jones tie the school season record Smith fi rst set in 2009 with fi ve scoring receptions this year. … ILB Enrique Wil-liams paced the Jags with 11 total stops in the ULM contest, the third game in a row that he has reached double fi gures in the category. It was the fourth time in the last fi ve outings, and the fi fth occasion this fall, that the junior has led USA in tackles. … PK Michel Chapuseaux connected on his only fi eld-goal attempt against the Warhawks from 27 yards to close out the scoring, his sixth straight successful kick leaving him one shy of equaling the school record set by Jordan Means from Sept. 17-Oct. 22 last year. The senior has converted 80 percent (8-of-10) of his attempts in league play, as he leads the squad with 55 points on the season. … Jake Johnson recorded nine tackles last time out, including two behind the line of scrimmage. The eff ort gave him 10½ stops for loss on the season, making him the fi rst player in program history to post double digits in the category. … Junior Ross Metheny has accounted for more than 200 yards of total off ense in each of the last three outings after collecting 226 against the Warhawks, as he has thrown for six scores against only two interceptions during that stretch. HILLTOPPER NOTESfWith a 14-6 win at Florida International on Saturday, the Hilltoppers improved to 6-2 on the season and have become bowl eligible for the second straight season. WKU has now won 13 of its last 16 games dat-ing back to last season.

Senior defensive lineman Quanterus Smith had a career game with fi ve sacks against the Panthers – the most by any FBS player in a game this season. As a team, the Hilltoppers registered nine sacks against FIU, which ties USC for the third-highest sack total in a game in 2012.

Antonio Andrews fi nished with 27 carries for 158 yards – 108 of which came in the second half. It was Andrews’ sixth straight 100-yard game, which is the longest active streak by a running back in the nation. Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch has rushed for over 100 yards in seven straight games.

The Hilltopper defense forced four turnovers in the game — recovering three fumbles and interception a pass. That equalled the season-high for take aways. WKU also recorded four turnovers at Kentucky on Sept. 15.

In addition to three fumble recoveries, Cam Thomas intercepted a pass for the second straight game.

WKU has not allowed a touchdown to FIU 13:19 mark of the fourth quarter in the matchup in Miami in 2010. WKU won last year’s game by a 10-9 score, allowing three fi eld goals.

Tight end Jack Doyle recorded four fi rst-half receptions for 63 yards on Saturday, moving him within three catches of third second place on WKU’s career list. Doyle has at least three receptions in every game this season.The Hilltoppers continue to lead the nation in time of possession at 34:16 per game. The now have re-corded over 30 minutes of possession in 18 straight games dating back to last season.

WKU will have a short week of preparation before hosting Middle Tennessee Thursday night at 8:15 p.m. in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.

PANTHER NOTESGeorgia State (1-8) will face its fourth ranked team in fi ve weeks as the Panthers host Top 10 team Old Dominion (7-1, 4-1 CAA) in their fi nal home game Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.

Playing at No. 9/10 James Madison, GSU rallied for two touchdowns in the fi nal 10 minutes before falling to the Dukes, 28-21.

Old Dominion, ranked No. 6 by the Sports Network and No. 7 in the FCS Coaches poll last week, defeated No. 20/16 Delaware, 31-26. The Monarchs lead all FCS schools in scoring off ense (44.63) and total off ense (565.5) and rank third in passing off ense (400.4). Quarterback Taylor Heinicke, an Atlanta native (Collins Hill HS), leads the nation in total off ense at 436.3 yards a game.

Old Dominion becomes the fi rst opponent that Georgia State will face for the third time in its brief history. The Monarchs won the fi rst two meetings, 34-20 in 2010 in Norfolk, and 40-17 in last year’s game, also played at the Georgia Dome.

Both schools will move to FBS conferences next season, with Georgia State going to the Sun Belt Conference and Old Dominion to Conference USA.

Saturday’s game is the fi nal home game for Georgia State head coach Bill Curry, who announced during preseason camp that the 2012 season will be his last on the sideline.

Curry was named GSU’s fi rst head coach on June 12, 2008 and has guided the program through its infancy. The former head coach at Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky is in his 20th season as a collegiate head coach. He will remain at Georgia State as a special assistant to Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick and President Mark Becker.
