And in mulplied, chronic stress situaons, the effects themselves can create addional stress. For instance, you might be dealing with 4 significant life events at the same me and one effect might be insomnia which itself adds to your stress. God may give you or allow you to face more than you can handle. But he doesn’t leave you helpless. First, God is with you (Deut. 31:8, Jn. 14:17-19, Heb. 13:5). Second, as a member of the body of Christ, God has called us to encourage and build up one another (1 Thess. 5:11). Call a brother or sister in Christ; call your pas- tor. And finally, before the stress takes “all” the wind out of your sails, seek help. The wise person isn’t the one who can figure everything out on their own, rather it is the one knows what they can and can’t do and who & when to ask for help (Call 211 statewide 24 hour helpline). Pastor Mark Earl and Nicole Siemonsma live in Montrose, South Dakota with their two children, Easton (4) and Nariah (2). They recently moved from Lyons, South Dakota where Earl grew up. Although Nicole grew up in Utah, she has family roots in the Montrose area. The two met through Earl’s cousin who was a friend of Nicole. Earl loves his job working as a CAD Engineer for Rosenbauer America in Lyons. He draws custom Fire Trucks for the company and has been with them for 20 years. Nicole has been at Sanford for 12 years and feels honored to be serving people and assisting in their care. She spends her days as a Radiology Technologist, performing MRI, CT and PET scans at the Sanford Cancer Center and Sanford Orthope- dics. In his spare time, Earl loves helping his wife around the house and reading books. He is also a Vikings fan and anything that has to do with football. He smokes meats, cheeses and Pizza with family and is an awesome cook! When he gets the oppor- tunity, he likes golfing. Nicole grew up with a love of horses and she hopes to someday offer that same blessing to her children. She looks forward to date night and a movie with Earl once a month. She enjoys fall (and even colder weather) and curling up with a cup of hot cocoa and a good bible study. She also enjoys bike riding and claims to have an addiction to excel spread sheets! Good to know! When asked what attracted them to Sun Prairie, they said, “We were looking for a church family that focused heavily on Bibli- cal teaching instead of topical fluff. We love the sense of family and it is a great place to see our children grow and learn to love God. We are so grateful for the people who put on the Wednesday night studies for the whole family! There is no lack of opportunity here at Sun Prairie and we look forward to serving this family!” I think everyone would agree that Earl and Nicole Siemonsma are definitely People You Should Know!

Stress

Every one of us deals with stress of some sort on a regular basis. Researchers tell us that most people can deal

with 1-2 stressful events at the same time. However, when a person must deal with 3 or more stressful life expe-

riences over an extended period, the stress will begin to have adverse effects on them and those close to them.

And in multiplied, chronic stress situations, the effects themselves can create additional stress. For instance, you

might be dealing with 4 significant life events at the same time and one effect might be insomnia which itself

adds to your stress. As a result of this additional stress, you might become less focused and more prone to acci-

dents or poor decision making which will then create even more stress.

If you are facing such a downward spiral or you know someone caught up in this cycle, it’s important to respond

in healthy ways. We often can’t control the stressors, but we can control how we respond.

First we must seek God’s peace through prayer and meditating on His word. We can also begin to practice some

very simple stress relieving activities like regular exercise, deep breathing and active problem solving. Another

important help in dealing with chronic stress is connecting with people. It might be a friend, your pastor or even

a behavioral health professional.

God may give you or allow you to face more than you can handle. But he doesn’t leave you helpless.

First, God is with you (Deut. 31:8, Jn. 14:17-19, Heb. 13:5). Second, as a member of the body of Christ, God has

called us to encourage and build up one another (1 Thess. 5:11). Call a brother or sister in Christ; call your pas-

tor. And finally, before the stress takes “all” the wind out of your sails, seek help. The wise person isn’t the one

who can figure everything out on their own, rather it is the one knows what they can and can’t do and who &

when to ask for help (Call 211 statewide 24 hour helpline).

Earl and Nicole Siemonsma live in Montrose, South Dakota with their

two children, Easton (4) and Nariah (2). They recently moved from Lyons, South

Dakota where Earl grew up. Although Nicole grew up in Utah, she has family roots in

the Montrose area.

She spends her

days as a Radiology Technologist, performing MRI, CT and PET scans at the Sanford Cancer Center and Sanford Orthope-

to date night and a movie with Earl once a month. She enjoys fall (and even colder weather) and curling up with a cup of hot

cocoa and a good bible study. She also enjoys bike riding and claims to have an addiction to excel spread sheets! Good to
