Start with the basics at Sunway

THINKING of going to Britain for further studies or just scouting for a good British-based course that can be completed locally? Sunway College may have just the course you want.

One of the most widely recognised Pre-University qualifications offered at Sunway is the Cambridge Board's GCE A-Levels programme, which has been offered since 1989.

It is one of the more popular courses offering students a wide range of subjects which include Accounting, Economics, Law, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Further Mathematics, History, General Paper and English.

A-Levels is a favourite amongst students as it is internationally recognised and accepted for entry into universities and professional courses in many countries. It is also accepted by Monash University's branch campus in Malaysia and for all twinning degree courses at Sunway.

For students whose interests lie in the hospitality and tourism industry, Sunway's School of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers a two-year Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Upon completion, students can pursue the Oxford Brookes University's (OBU) Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management course. Diploma graduates need only complete another 16 months of study to obtain the degree, which can be completed locally.

Besides that, students can also earn additional external qualification from the City and Guilds Institute in Britain.

Sunway's Financial Courses Division has been maintaining an enviable track record of outstanding students, producing world and Malaysian prize winners in Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations at every examination since 1996.

Sunway currently offers ACCA and CAT programmes. An agreement has been made between ACCA and OBU, allowing ACCA students to be awarded the BSc (Hons) in

Applied Accounting. The arrangement will enable students to study simultaneously for a professional qualification and a degree from OBU.

Students will be awarded the degree upon completion of the first and second parts of the ACCA programme and submission of a Research and Analysis Project to be assessed by OBU.

For those interested in pursuing professional qualifications from Britain, Sunway offers professional courses from the Association of Business Executives (ABE) and Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).

The courses offered by CIM are structured with four different levels with six months per level. These are the Foundation in Marketing, Certificate in Marketing, Advanced Certificate in Marketing and Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.

On the other hand, the A B E programme is offered at all four levels of this non-specialist general business education. School-leavers can enter at the certificate level and make their way up to the Advanced Diploma in Business Administration through Diploma Level 1 and 2.

All professional courses are offered on both full time and part time basis.

Sunway also prides itself in being a major provider of knowledge workers for the MSC and the I T industry through industry-driven courses.

The School of I T and Multimedia offers a wide range of courses ranging from certificate right up to degree level courses.

For degree level IT-related programmes, Sunway partners itself with the National Computing Centre and London Guildhall University (LGU).

This leads to a BSc (Hons) in Computing and Information Systems awarded by the LGU. The programme is similar to a 3+0 but is more attractive in that students obtain three additional world-recognised diplomas upon completion of each level of their course.
