Let Us Negotiate! Author Unknown
A hunter raised his rifle and took careful aim at a large
bear. When he was about to pull the trigger, the bear
spoke in a soft, soothing voice, “Isn’t it better to talk than
to shoot? What do you want? Let us negotiate the matter.”
Lowering his rifle, the hunter replied, “I want a fur coat.”
The bear said, “Good, that is a negotiable question. I want
a full stomach, so let us negotiate.” After a time, the bear
walked away alone. The negotiations had been successful.
The bear had a full stomach, and the hunter had a fur coat.
Satan says, “Let’s negotiate.” However, there are some
things that cannot be compromised. If we try to negotiate
with sin, we are deceiving ourselves and will fall into a
trap that will destroy us.
Resolved By Frank L. Cox
To be about my Father’s business.
To keep a pure heart, a clear head, and a will to do good.
To set my affections on things above.
To keep myself from idols – those things which hinder
me in service to God.
To fear nothing but sin and the danger of displeasing my
Father.
To forget and forgive all injuries rendered me.
To be more intent in finding good than evil in others.
To refrain my tongue from evil.
To be my brother’s keeper, lifting him up when he falls,
supporting him when he is weak, and restoring
him when he strays.

From Matt . . . I've been using this space to make suggestions on resources that are designed to help you in
confronting the complexities of the Bible. As I've observed (and as you have doubtlessly experienced), the Bible is a
hard book. We've received it across thousands of years and numerous cultures. It uses language, imagery, and literary
conventions that are all unfamiliar to us. Unsurprisingly, this can intimidate us and leave us despairing that the Bible
is "just not a book for me." Fortunately, (and providentially), resources abound that are reliable and accessible that
help us more clearly understand the Bible's foreign elements, along with adding life and color to our reading. This
month, we'll focus on the wisdom and poetic books of the Bible.
The Wisdom of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes – Kidner (intermediate)
The Fear of the Lord is Wisdom – Longman III (intermediate)
The Psalter Reclaimed: Praying and Praising with the Psalms – Wenham (intermediate)
An Introduction to Wisdom and Poetry of the Old Testament – Berry (advanced)
The Art of Biblical Poetry – Alter (advanced)
Tyndale Old Testament and NIV Application commentaries on Wisdom and Poetic books (beginner to
intermediate)
