As I look around the stores as I go about my weekly routine of grocery
shopping and other errands, once again, Nativity scenes are being set up in the
middle of the Pumpkins Patches! We barely get the “Clearance “stickers on the
harvest decorations when the red and green of Christmas overwhelms us.
Between is an annual national day of thanksgiving we know as Thanks-
giving Day, celebrated on the last Thursday of November as declared by Presi-
dent Lincoln in 1863. It would be a day of “Thanksgiving and praise to our be-
neficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.”
I look forward to Thanksgiving – the purpose is to enjoy family and
friends and give thanks to God for the blessing of them in my life. Since it is al-
so always good to reduce stress, I limit the number of dishes I prepare, so it is a
day for which I am thankful. And my guys do the dishes…Life is good.
With that as an introduction I want to announce this year’s
Community Thanksgiving Service
Sunday, November 22, 2015
6:00 p.m.
at
Billings Assembly of God
What a wonderful opportunity to rejoice and praise God with our neighbors from
other Billings and area churches. There will be music provided from the choirs
of the churches of the Ministerial Alliance. I do encourage all who are able to
join us for an evening when we share together in the worship, the praise, the
thanksgiving to God from whom our many, many blessings flow.
In the power and the peace of Jesus,
Rev. Kemery Baldwin

St Peter’s UCC Board Report – Oct 20, 2015
The Board met on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM on Oct 20, 2015 in the Fellowship Hall. Minutes from the September meeting and the treasurer’s report were discussed and approved, followed by Pastor Kemery’s report covering events/activities since the last board meeting in September. Our thanks go out to Pat and Allan Ware for hosting the Fall Picnic and Weiner Roast. The evening weather was perfect as was the food, fun and hayride. Mission Fest Sunday has come and gone and we also thank Susie and Donny Briscoe for their interesting and in-formative program. Be aware and prepared to see residents soon in the Parsonage. Ms Sasha Herd and her three children will occupy the Parsonage around the end of October. The Pastor’s Office, adjacent bathroom and the room at the end of the hall will remain with the Church. Mark Schultz deserves everyone’s thanks and appreciation for his outstanding effort to construct and install the Little Free Library, which is located in front of the church. It is loaded with books and ready for use. Katie Harting has several youth activities scheduled and/or in the planning stages. Don’t forget to make your delicious pie purchases from The Fellowship Guild. The board reviewed draft versions of a proposed budget for 2016. The board will discuss in detail at the November meeting and present to the Congregation in December for approval. Pastor Ap-preciation Month is October and I would encourage everyone to recognize Pastor Kemery for her excellent ministerial leadership since her call to our Church.
We have enjoyed a fantastic Fall even though it has gotten somewhat dry. Fall foliage does not appear to have quite the vivid color that we sometimes enjoy; however, I have seen many beauti-ful trees. Cooler days are just around the corner along with Halloween, Thanksgiving activities and Advent Season. As they say, “time flies when you’re having fun” or perhaps “as we age”!

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn. Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow. Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference. —Author unknown
Thanksgiving Beatitudes
To be grateful is to recognize the love
of God in everything he has given us —
and he has given us everything. Every
breath we draw is a gift of his love. Every
moment of existence is a grace, for it
brings with it immense graces from him.
Gratitude, therefore, takes nothing for
granted, is never unresponsive, is con-
stantly awakening to new wonder and to
praise of the goodness of God; for the
grateful person knows that God is good
not by hearsay but by experience, and
that is what makes all the difference.
—Thomas Merton
Experiencing gratitude
Guild President, Diane Zell, called the meeting to order on Oct.10th with 10 members present. Cindy Wage-
mann gave the devotional entitled, "A Fragrance and a Letter" by Lawrence Darmani. Minutes were read by
Secretary, Chris Rauch, and approved. Treasurer, Charlene Rumley, gave a bank balance of $2,168 as of Oct.
1st, 2015. Four Get Well Cards were sent since last month's meeting. Chris Rauch gave the Church Board
Report.
Under Old Business it was decided to make more pie dough on Oct. 14th and to follow up with one more day
of pie making on Oct.15th. As it was last year, pie making has been a time of great fellowship for Guild mem-
bers. Diane Zell showed the ladies an angel like the one she gave Bobbi Rauch on behalf of the Guild during
her recovery from surgery .
Under New Business decorating for Mission Fest was set for Sat., Oct. 17th at 10 a.m. Pastor Kemery ques-
tioned whether the ladies felt it would be a possibility to have four silk flower arrangements made for the sanc-
tuary representing the four seasons. These could be used throughout the year when real flowers were not
supplied. Both the Ladies Guild and the Sunday School Representative, Chris Rauch, declared themselves
willing to help finance the project. Pastor Kemery said that she would be glad to look into cost and availability
at Hobby Lobby and Michael's. Upon the news of Clifford Kastendieck's passing the previous evening, Guild
members were told of the possibility of providing a family luncheon after the funeral service, and, if so, would
be notified in the days ahead.
Denise Hampton gave the topic titled, "The Tragedy That Wasn't" by Adam Hunter. It was a story from
Guideposts' "Mysterious Ways" which served as a reminder of how intimately and in minute detail God can
work in our lives to achieve great personal miracles for us; even to the extent of saving us from certain death.
Next meeting will be on Sat., Nov. 11th at 10:00 a.m. All ladies are welcome and encouraged to bring a
friend!
Respectfully submitted,
Secretary, Chris Rauch

UPDATE on the LITTLE FREE LIBRARY at St. Peter’s
The Little Free Library has been installed! It sits near the sidewalk facing Pine
Street between the Church building and the parsonage.
Thank you to Mark Schultz who designed, constructed AND installed the LFL;
thanks to the youth who painted the LFL and personalized it with handprints on the
inside; thank you to those who will stop, browse and read.
Little Free Library: How This Library Works
This library Belongs to everyone! Our neighbors, friends and people who pass
by. Anyone may use it. This LFL offers a way to share good things to read. We can
include your childhood favorites, books you would recommend, books that teach and
help explain and inform.
Take books. If you see something you would like to read: take it. When
you are done, you can bring it back with your own special note in it.
Share books. Pass a book you find in our LFL on to a friend or return to
any LFL.
The Youth painted the Little Free Library Then it was waiting on the parsonage porch to be installed
And now it is on a post and installed.

The power of gratitude
Gratitude unlocks the fullness
of life. It turns what we have into
enough, and more. It turns denial
into acceptance, chaos to order,
confusion to clarity. It can turn a
meal into a feast, a house into a
home, a stranger into a friend.

Need another reason to
join the choir? Consider
this: Neuroscientists in
Sweden discovered that
singers’ heartbeats tend to
synchronize, which leads to
a sense of emotional calm
and bonding.
“Joint action leads to joint perspectives,”
write the researchers. “In other words, sing-
ers may change their egocentric perspective
of the world to a ‘we-perspective,’ which
causes them to perceive the world from the
same point of view.”
So start singing — and enjoy the many
benefits and blessings of being part of a
choir!
