Meeting 7:00 pm
“Thank you to everyone that contributed food and helped with
the Locke family dinner.” Mary Rounds and Ann Spaulding
“I would like to thank Bro. Randy for the kind words he said at
Johnny’s funeral. Also, Dana and Cindy for their beautiful music. The delicious meal the ladies prepared was wonderful, everyone enjoyed the meal.
I am so grateful to all.” Sincerely, Matilda Locke
“Bill and I are so thankful for everything, your letters and cards, also the visit from Rev. Randy. Thanks to everyone!” Bill & Ruth Jones
A NOTE FROM DANA…
I was thinking about the
children’s message this past
Sunday which included the
story of how Jesus fed 5,000
people with 5 loaves and 2
fishes. I was wondering
what that little boy thought
when the disciples came to
him and said “Jesus needs
your lunch!” I wonder if he
might have thought “Really?
Who does Jesus think He is
taking my lunch?!” Or do
you suppose he thought “No
problem! If Jesus is in need
of what I have, then, yeah,
sure I’ll give it to Him!” I
like to think this kid proba-
bly thought the latter!
You may begin ordering poin-settias to be placed on the al-
tar in memory of or in honor of loved ones. You may call the
church office to order: 728-4624, or you may fill out a form that
has been placed in the card holder behind each pew. Each poinsettia is $5.00.
“THE FIRST NOEL, Born is the King” is the 2015 Christmas cantata being pre-
sented by our Sanctuary Choir. The presenta-tion will be Sunday night, December 20 at
7:00 PM in the church sanctuary. The cantata features several of our fine soloists and a
moving video component as well. Make your plans to celebrate Christmas with
the Sanctuary Choir!
ANNUAL COMMUNITY-WIDE THANKSGIVING SERVICE
The Manchester Ministerial Association will again sponsor the annual Community Thanksgiv-ing Service on Tuesday evening, November 24, 7:00 PM. This year’s service will be held at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, 93 St. Bede’s Drive (Just behind J&G Restaurant on highway 55). A love offering will be taken to benefit Good Samaritan of Manchester. And our very own Brooke Hazen will be singing! Everyone is invited to come and worship!
UMW Day Group will meet in the parlor Nov. 24
at 10:00AM. Judy Worthington will have the program and will tell about her
nephew's three years of service with the Mission of Health Services in Rwanda. This
will be followed by free admission to the Arrowheads to Rockets Museum to view the 100 Nativity scenes, and the rest of the mu-
seum if you are interested. We then will have Dutch Treat lunch at O' Charley's. Eve-
ryone who is interested is welcome.
Operation Christmas Child
Boxes
Since people were still calling Sun-day morning looking for shoe-boxes, we decided not to bless them on the alter Sunday, but to give you another week to get them ready. You may use the plastic shoe boxes, or you may cover a standard shoebox with wrapping paper, They WILL be blessed Sun-day Nov 22, and turned into our collection site by Monday morning-
the very latest. Doris Hendrix
Member prayer List available at the Welcome Center!
We are probably a lot like
that little boy when Jesus
makes demands on us! Do
we give what we have un-
willingly or do we actually
trust the Lord with our time,
talents and possessions? In
this great story from Scrip-
ture I think Jesus was really
saying two very important
things: 1) He takes what we
have, small as it may seem
and works miracles with it!
And 2: Jesus WANTS not
just what we have but who
we are! He wants our time,
talents and possessions to be
sure but He also wants our
hearts. Who does your heart
belong to today?
Grace and Peace,
Dana
I have a heavy heart this morning as I write this to you, with the events that happened last week in Paris, sometimes I have the thought “ok Jesus I am ready you can comeback any time now, as in like today.” Then more often than I hear the still small voice of God say to me “Be Still and know that I am God” or “in this world you will have tribulations but fear not for I have overcome the world.” I think that is a promise but I also think that it is a declaration. I know that these words of God comfort me in times of uncertainty like this. I do not know what you are facing today or this week but it is my prayer that you will find comfort and peace and hope with these and all of Gods words as you seek to know him better and deeper everyday. Some upcom-ing events that I want to make you aware of: Saturday December 5th is the Manchester City Christmas Pa-rade. I am not sure what time we will have to line up but the parade starts at 7 p.m. when I have more details I will let you know. Since we are a church, I have a very strong belief that we need to represent Jesus and him being the true meaning of the season and not Santa Claus. Therefore, we will be having a live nativity in which the youth and other members of our church will be dressed up as the different characters that are rep-resented in the story of the nativity. This is a huge undertaking and we will need all the help that we can get. THIS IS A CHURCH WIDE PROJECT NOT JUST A YOUTH PROJECT!!!!!!!!!!! I need the following so if you are able and willing to help me out with any of this please let me know ASAP!!! 1.Truck to pull the trailer, 2. A driver for the truck, 3. A place where we can park this trailer and work and it will stay dry. 4. Hay or straw for the float itself. 5. Bags of individually wrapped candy (such as laffy taffy) that we will hand (not throw) out as people walk down the parade route. 6. People who will walk the parade route with and hand out candy and infor-mation about our church. 7. I also need a light to light (much like or similar to what construction workers use at night
while paving or working) If you can and are willing to help me out in any way please let me know. I am in the process of planning some work days. I am hoping to keep this simple, but want it to look nice. If you would be willing to help us out then please let me know ASAP!!!! Just another friendly reminder, youth group, youth trips, and youth outings are for STUDENTS in the 6thgrade through the 12th grade. Any STUDENT younger than 6th grade is invited and encouraged to attend and participate in the children’s ministry of Manchester FUMC. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please do not hesitate to let me know as soon as a problem comes up. Thank you for allowing me to join you on this life journey.
In the GRIP of HIS grace, Randa Brown , Youth Director
This Friday, November 20, from 5:00-9:00 pm, the Fellowship Hall will be alive with the sounds of Christmas! Our children, grades 1-5 will be rehearsing the Christmas musical, "A Tree Lot Christmas...Joining Jesus' Family Tree." But not only does this amazing cast include our wonderful and talented children, it also includes the most talented adults around! Mr. Mike Giffin and Miss Julie Giffin have been working hard on their parts in the play. And Mr. Mike even sings a solo! You don't want to miss this. We will perform the play on Sunday night, December 20 at 5:1 . So get ready to be blessed and feel the true spirit of Christmas.
Next Sunday night is the next meeting of SNL. Your children will be learning about how God gave the ten com-mandments to Moses. The key verse is "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Deuteronomy 6:5. The key concept we are learning is that following Jesus is not about obeying rules; it's about knowing him.
This week as we continue to learn about serving others, we learn that Elijah asked a poor widow for water and bread. But because of the severe drought in the country, the woman had only enough for one meal for her and her son. Elijah told her that God would provide flour and oil until the next time it rained. God did just that--and none of them went hungry. The moral of this story is: Ask God for what you need to lend a hand. We want kids to know that God is able to come through for them and give them what they need to help others.
FUMC offers many opportunities for your children to learn about God! Thank you for sending your children to learn how to make this world a better place. See you Sunday!
