Preparing for Worship “Wonderful Counselor” — Isaiah 9:6 J. Josh Smith This week we begin a new series on the four names of Christ in Isaiah 9:6. Begin preparing for worship by reading Isaiah 9:1-7. This is an incredible text promising the coming of the Messiah and showing the impact of his rule and reign. Verse 6 tells us four things that the Messiah will be: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. This week, take the time to meditate on the first one, Wonderful Counselor. Why is this good news? How does this meet a need you have? How do you see your need for counsel? As you meditate on this, pray that God will help you to see more than ever what a blessing it is to know Jesus Christ. Sunday’s Sermon In response to Sunday’s message, take time to think about these truths and the response questions.

For Kids: Angels Spoke to Mary and Joseph – Luke 1:26-56; Matthew 1:18-24 Big Picture Question for Kids: What part did Mary and Joseph have in God’s plan? Big Picture Answer for Kids: God chose Mary and Joseph to be the earthly parents of Jesus. Christ Connection: “Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and

name him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). The baby Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy, as well as other prophecies of the coming Savior throughout the Old Testament. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus fulfilled God’s plan of redemption that God planned from the beginning of the world.

Key Passage: Isaiah 9:6

For Teenagers: Restoration Begins Lesson Text: Ezra 3:1-7, 10-11; 6:21-22

Sunday, December 7| “Mighty God” Isaiah 9:6 Truth: We live in a broken world surrounded by broken people. The evidences of this brokenness are all around us. It can be seen in political unrest, racial tension, sickness, disease, death, depression, suicide, homelessness, and a thousand other ways. Truth: Jesus loves broken people. He not only loves them, he has come to save them (Isaiah 61). He also came to invite them to Himself (Matthew 11:28). Truth: As the people of Christ, we have been left here on earth to continue the work of Christ in the Spirit of Christ. We have been called to show the broken that God has made a way to be healed through Jesus Christ. Response: PRAY. Pray that God will give you His heart for the lost. Pray that God will give you boldness to share the Gospel. Pray that God will open doors for you to share, and that you will walk through those doors when he opens them (Colossians 4:2-5). Response: BE PREPARED. Be prepared to share the Gospel in a clear and concise way. Using the 3 circles is a great way to do this. If you do not feel confident in sharing the Gospel, look over the 3 circles guide and be ready when the opportunity arises. http://lifeonmissionbook.com Response: OBEY. When you are talking to someone and the brokenness of our world or their life comes into the conversation, take that opportunity to share the Gospel. There is no reason to fear. There is no reason not to share. People are dying to hear the Gospel. God has already prepared hearts to receive it. So just share it and trust the Lord with the response. Take the pressure off. You have no responsibility to see people saved, but you do have the responsibility to share.
