The weekend event, held April 11-12, drew more than 550 attendees to the Friday night dinner and auction held at the Omaha DoubleTree. Sticking with the outdoor soc- cer theme, tables were adorned with bright yellow, lime-green and blue paper lanterns with fresh white hydrangeas and butterfly- and flower-shaped pla- cemats, designed by Old Market Habitat. Vases of yellow, white and green mums completed the look. Following a social hour, a choice of baked cod with lemon caper sauce or chicken breast with Marsala wine sauce, rice pilaf and broccolini was served. The keynote speaker was Miss Teen Missouri Interna- tional Sara Moore, who at age 15 was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, a genetic condition that puts her at increased risk for developing cancer. “A lot of people don’t know anything about Lynch Syn- drome, so I feel like it’s my re- sponsibility to share my story,” Moore said. Lynch Syndrome is named for Dr. Henry Lynch, director of the Hereditary Cancer Center at Creighton University and honored guest at the benefit. Steve Lindsay, president of the Kicks for a Cure Board of Directors, presented the Inspi- ration Award to Amy Deardorff and the late Cindy Leiferman for their impact on the organization. On Saturday, college and high school exhibition soccer match- es were played at Creighton University’s Morrison Soccer Stadium. Proceeds from the weekend benefit Liz’s Legacy Cancer Fund. The David Karnes family served as honorary chairmen. Co-chairwomen for the weekend were Kayla Howard and Susan McGillick. A record-setting amount of $320,000 was raised, bringing the nine-year total to $1.75 mil- lion dollars for cancer research and education split by the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Cen- ter and Creighton’s Hereditary Cancer Center. The evening featured dinner, silent and oral auctions and videos of the school children. More than $180,000 was raised to support the mission of St. Ce- cilia School. Auction highlights were a golf outing with Creigh- ton University men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott, dinner with University of Nebras- ka-Lincoln men’s basketball coach Tim Miles and a Dream Day at Wrigley Field. Travis Justice served as auctioneer. All eight adult children of Mary and Bill Lindsay were on hand as their family received the Great Cathedral Family award. The Great Steward award was presented to Alice and Dorothy Lammers for their efforts in social justice and civic outreach. Honorary chairmen were Jane and Tom Werner. Andrea and Adam met atBryan Elementary. The coupleplan a 3 p.m. wedding on May17, 2014, at St. MichaelLutheran Church in Omaha.
