SuperCor
As AILs revolutionary alternative to conventional bridges,SuperCor represents our commitment to continued
development in the ield o corrugated metal structures.
Superior Strength. Lightweight Construction.SuperCors larger annular corrugations (381mm [15"] pitchand 140mm [5.5"] depth) provide nine times the stiness o
conventional structural plate. he lightweight, modular panelscan be shipped easily and economically making it even moreadvantageous or remote locations.
Easy InstallationSimply put, SuperCor saves time and money in installation. hepanels require signiicantly ewer bolts than conventional structuralplates and can be assembled adjacent to the job site, then movedinto place using relatively light equipment. And, i the road needsto be widened later, SuperCor allows or easy extension withadditional panels.
The sensible,economical choice or:

Combining the advantages o lightweight construction with the superior strength and durability o galvanizedsteel, SuperCor is the most internationally accepted, and widely used corrugation proile on the market.

Mining companies take advantage o AILs technology to buildsome o the largest and most economical bridges in remotelocations, such as this one in Australia.
IDEAL FORREMOTE LOCATIONS
VersatileSuper Cors corrugation proile permits constructiono the largest, longest and widest spans in a varietyo conigurations. Spans can exceed 25m (82') with
AILs proprietary eatures. Special shapes are alsoavailable, including SuperCor reinorced boxculverts in spans exceeding 15m (50') with cover asshallow as 450mm (18").
DurableSuper Cors heavy galvanized coating ismetallurgically-bonded to the steel surace, providingextended service lie. SuperCor is supplied witha standard 915g/m2 (3oz/t2) coating. A heavier1220g/m2 (4 oz/t2) coating is also available. Properlydesigned and installed, SuperCor structures will lastover 100 years. Co-Polymer coatings are also availableto urther extend service lie.
Environmentally-ResponsibleMost SuperCor structures used or stream crossingsare bottomless. hese structure types, combined withlower-impact installation methods, virtually eliminatedeliberate streambed intererence.
Maintenance-Free
Unlike conventional bridges, which requently requiresubstantial retroits, properly-installed SuperCorstructures are relatively maintenance-ree.
Aesthetically-PleasingOnce installed, SuperCor becomes a naturally-appealing structure. he geometry o the corrugationsboth sotens and reduces the intrusivenesstraditionally associated with man-made structures innatural environments.

Applications
With achievable span widths oover 25m (82'), many o the worldslargest mine sites use AILs innova-tive SuperCor or its light weight, superior strength, versatility, ease oinstallation and environmental riend-

SAFER FOR EVERYONE: Deerstroll across a newly-installedAIL animal crossing in Poland.
On todays high-speed highways, motorists and wildlie can otenind themselves on opposite sides osudden and devastating encounters.
he one thing they agree on, how-ever, is that saety crossings made
rom SuperCor provide low-cost,aesthetically pleasing and eectivesolutions or increased highway saety.Super Cor is ideal or animal-riendlycrossings like:

Ideal for many
Replacing aging bridges presentsunique challenges to traic manage-ment and inrastructure budgets alike.Progressive engineers and speciiers
are turning to SuperCor or its easeo installation and sheer economics.Super Cors variety o shapes andproiles, along with its environmentalriendliness, make it perect or:

SuperCorRound
SuperCor Round structures permitconstruction o dramatically larger diameters
than was previously possible with conventionalstructural plate pipe conigurations.
SuperCor is the obvious choice or remotelocations where concrete is more expensiveor just not accessible as well as areas withpoor oundations. his common and very
versatile shape is requently chosen orculverts, sewers and sub-drains, but it canalso be used or storage bins, access ways, tunnels, bridges, and storm water retention/detention systems.
THE STRONGEST: In mine sites aroundthe world, Super Cor is used underhuge stock piles.

Design and Installation
InstallationSuper Cor structures distributesuperimposed loads to the surrounding
engineered backill, so it is essentialto use care during installationand backilling to ensure properperormance. he ollowing guidelines
will help ensure a successul project.
Excavationrench excavation will vary, dependingon the nature o the in situ material. It is necessary to provide an excavatedarea that ensures adequate distancerom soils with questionable structural
integrity. I the native soil is stable, excavate only the area that is requiredto provide minimum bedding, backillenvelope and enough room orcompaction equipment to manoeuvre. For stream crossing applications, localauthorities will impose guidelines orconstruction activity.
FoundationsSuper Cor structures are lexible andcan accommodate some dierential
settlement without distress. It isimportant, nevertheless, to minimizedierential settlement by removingand replacing poor oundationmaterial. Pile oundations otencreate dierential settlement issues.Preparation should be conined tominimum, but practical, widths andshould result in a uniorm base orthe structure. A bedding o loosematerial will provide a slight cushionand the bedding may be lat or
shaped, depending on the structureconiguration and constructionmethods being used. It is essential thatall corrugations be illed.
AssemblyA SuperCor structure arrives atthe job site in bundles curved to the
proper radius. Included are bolts andany other special hardware that maybe required, as well as instructions andshop drawings listing all components.
Assembly is easy, requiring relativelysimple tools. Correct lapping, bolt-tightening and shape-monitoring areall important to achieve the correctdesign dimensions. Your AILrepresentative can provide inormationand assistance to those unamiliar
with structural plate assembly.
BackfillSuper Cor structures require a stable, engineered backill to retain theirshape and structural integrity. hequality o the backill envelope dependson the choice o material, placemento backill, and compaction o theenvelope. AIL will detail suitablebackill materials or the structures.
A well-graded, ree-draining, granularbackill is preerred. here is nosubstitute or an examination by ageotechnical engineer.
InspectionInspection should be perormed on aull-time basis by qualiied personnel.Backill is placed in a balanced mannerin 150mm (6") to 200mm (8") litsor the entire backill envelope.Compaction testing is requiredto ensure that backill material iscompacted to the required Standard
Proctor Density. It is a good ideato assess the compaction equipmentand have its use approved by thegeotechnical engineer or qualiiedinspector.
End FinishesSpecial attention must be paid tobeveled or skewed ends. Incomplete
structural rings may need to bereinorced with steel or concrete(or tied back) to maintain structuralintegrity. Exercise caution when placingbackill around them to avoid distortion.
Standard End Finishes are:
Squared
Beveled
Partially-beveled
Skewed
he CSPI Handbook o Steel Drainage& Highway Construction Products andthe NCSPA handbook provide a new, detailed section on backilling and thehydraulics o various steel structures.
Your AIL representative can provideyou with a copy o the handbook.
