ThankyouforpurchasingtheUEiSSM1Superheat/SubcoolMeter.UsetheSSM1tomeasuresuperheatandsubcoolbydirectconnec-tionsfortemperatureandpressure.TheSSM1isprogrammedwiththemostcommonfourrefrigerants,withdatafromtheNIST-Prorefrigerationdatabasefortemperature-pressurevalues.
Technical NoteSuperheatandsubcoolarethemosteffectivemeasurestodetermineifasystemisproperlychargedandoperatingwithinmanufacture
guidelines.

What is Super Heat / Sub Cool? Refrigerantsuperheatreferstotheriseintemperatureofvaporaftertherefrigeranthascom-pletelychangedfromaliquidtoagas.Thedewpoint(temperatureatmeasuredpressurewherealloftheliquidevaporates)isdeterminedbypropertiesoftherefrigerantandmeasuringthepressure.Whencom-paringthistothemeasuredpipetemperatureofthereturnlinewilldeterminesuperheat.TheSSM1willcalculatethisvaluedirectlyandupdateinrealtime.Usesuperheatonfixedorificeorcapillarysystems.
Refrigerantsubcoolingreferstothedropintemperatureofliquidrefrigerantafterithascom-pletelychangedfromagastoaliquid.Theboilingpoint(temperatureatmeasuredpressurewheretheliquidstopsboilingandstartstofurthercool)isdeter-minedbypropertiesoftherefrigerantandmeasuringpressure.Whencomparingthistothemeasuredpipetemperatureattheexitofthecondenserdeterminessubcooling.TheSSM1willcalculatethisvaluedirectly,andupdateinrealtime.UseSubcoolingonTXVsystems,astheyaredesignedtomaintainaconstantsuperheat.

OPERATION
1. Presstopowerthemeteron
2. ZeroPressure:Whiledisplayingpressureholdthe “Pressure/TEMP”buttonfor3seconds.
3. Pressthe“Pressure/TEMP”buttontoselectthe pressureortemperaturemode. 4. RefrigerantType:Pressthe“RefrigType”buttonto scrollthroughtheavailablerefrigeranttypes (R22,R134a,R404A,R40A).
5. Press“”buttontoswitchthebacklightonoroff.
6. Press“TempSH/SC”whiledisplayingtemperatureto scrollthrougheithertheprobetemperature,calculated superheatorcalculatedsubcool.
7. Press“Scale”toselectdesiredunitsforpressureor temperature.Theavailableunitsforpressureinclude PSI,BAR,KPA,Kg/cm2,InHgandcmHg.Theavailable unitsfortemperatureinclude°Fand°C.

CONNECTIONS
1. Connectastandardrefrigeranthosetothe¼”flare connectorontopoftheSSM1.(Fig.1)-OR-Connectthe SSM1in-linetoarefrigerantsourceusingthetee fitting(Fig.2)
2. Connecttheincludedpipeclampprobetothek-type inputjackontopoftheSSM1.(Fig.1)

TEMPERATuRE CALIBRATION
Aprocesstosettemperaturecalibrationtoanicepointisincludedtocompensatefordifferencesintemperaturesensors,ortoresettheunittoproperoperation.Pleasefollowthesestepstoperformatemperatureset; 1. Connecttemperatureprobe 2. Press“PressureTEMP”todisplayprobe temperature(verifythat“TEMP”isshownon theLCD. 3. Placethetemperatureprobesensingareaina mixtureofcrushediceandwater.(Distilled waterwillprovidethemostaccuratesource) 4. Stirtheicewatermixturewiththetemperature probeandallowthereadingtostabilize 5. Pressandhold“TempSH/SC”buttonforfour seconds
Thiswillsettheicepointto32°F.Themeterwill compensateforchangesupto10°F.

WARRANTyTheSSM1iswarrantedtobefreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipforaperiodofthreeyearsfromthedateofpurchase.Ifwithinthewarrantyperiodyourinstrumentshouldbecomeinoperativefromsuchdefects,theunitwillberepairedorreplacedatUEi’soption.Thiswarrantycoversnormaluseanddoesnotcoverdamagewhichoccursinshipmentorfailurewhichresultsfromalteration,tampering,accident,misuse,abuse,neglectorimpropermaintenance.Batteriesandconsequentialdamageresultingfromfailedbatteriesarenotcoveredbywarranty. Anyimpliedwarranties,includingbutnotlimitedtoimpliedwarrantiesofmerchantabilityandfitnessforaparticularpurpose,arelimitedtotheexpresswarranty.UEishallnotbeliableforlossofuseoftheinstrumentorotherincidentalorconsequentialdam-ages,expenses,oreconomicloss,orforanyclaimorclaimsforsuchdamage,expensesoreconomicloss.Apurchasereceiptorotherproofoforiginalpurchasedatewillberequiredbeforewar-rantyrepairswillberendered.Instrumentsoutofwarrantywillberepaired(whenrepairable)foraservicecharge.Returntheunitpostagepaidandinsuredto:
