SF Board of Education Adopts K8 Feeder Patterns for Middle School Assignments On June 14, 2011, the San Francisco Board of Education approved a new student assignmentprocess for middle school enrollment that includes elementary-to-middle school K8 feederpatterns. Beginning this fall, families will still submit their preferred choices for their child’s

middle school placement. However, when the number of requests for a school is greater than thenumber of seats available, the district will use the following preferences as a tiebreaker:

1) students who have an older sibling attending the school already, followed by2) students enrolled in an elementary school that is one of the K8 feeder schools, and then3) students living in areas of the city with the lowest average test scores (known as CTIP1).

Beginning in 2017, students exiting 5th grade will receive an initial 6th grade offer to enroll intheir K8 feeder school, after which parents can apply to another middle school if they prefer.More information can be found at the district web site: http://www.sfusd.edu/ .
