Maloney Yorgancı/ Umut Aybay YEAR : 1 NO: 40 28 JULY 2017, FRIDAY “For Your International Career” EMU and Ethiopia METEC Signs Collaboration Agreement A Collaboration Agreement had been signed between Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Metals and Engineering Corporation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (METEC) at Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa by EMU Vice Rector For Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural and METEC Vice President General Tigabu Fetle. METEC, an institution that produces 56 per cent of Ethiopia’s national income, contacted EMU two years ago and declared their request for Ethiopia’s ministers, undersecretaries and senior bureaucrats to receive masters and PhD education at EMU Department of Economics. EMU begun working on a graduate program for two years and conducted a workshop titled “Priority Topics For Ethiopia’s Economic Progress” between 22nd – 25th July 2017 at Addis Ababa. EMU Vice Rector For Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural who carries out the project for two years, EMU Department of Economics Chairman Prof. Dr. Mehmet Balcılar and two professors from Turkey attended the workshop. As a result of the studies, EMU and METEC had signed a Collaboration Agreement. According to the agreement, in addition to the fundamental courses provided in its masters and PhD programs, EMU Department of Economics will extend their programs to include courses and projects that are concerned directly with the examination and solution of Ethiopia’s economical problems designed for Ethiopian officials.

EMU and Ethiopia METEC Signs Collaboration Agreement

A Collaboration Agreement had been signed between Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Metals and Engineering Corporation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (METEC) at Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa by EMU Vice Rector For Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural and METEC Vice President General Tigabu Fetle. Protocol Signed Between EMU and Ziraat Bank

EMU Hosting World Renowned Conference on Clean Energy

A protocol was signed between Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) and Ziraat Bank on 18th July 2017, to facilitate more convenient student fees. EMU Vice Rector For Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin

Uğural and Ziraat Bank TRNC Country Manager Serdar Eldemir signed the protocol.

The protocol, will enable EMU students to pay their educational

expenses from Ziraat Bank branches all over Turkey. Ziraat Bank is known to have one of the widest branch office network in Turkey. EMU Vice Rector’s Coordinator For Financial Affairs Assist. Prof. Dr.

Hasan Özyapıcı, Financial Affairs Directorate Department Manager Mehmet Tolgay and Ziraat Bank Gazimağusa Branch Manager Elif Güngör were also present at the signature ceremony.

Conference on Clean Energy (ICCE

2018) will be taking place between

9 – 11 May 2018 at Salamis Bay Conti

Hotel. During the world-famous energy

conference which will be taking place

with the collaborations of EMU Energy

Research Centre (EMU – ERC) and

Clean Energy Research Institute (CERI)

of University of Miami, scientists will

be discussing the two global problems

of humanity: the depletion of fossil

fuels and overcoming global warming

issues with clean and sustainable energy

solutions.

The scientific, engineering, economical,

political and legal dimensions of the said

global problems will be discussed during

the conference via the presentations of the

participating scientists. The conference

will provide a discussion platform in the

topics of renewable energy resources,

hydrogen energy, solar energy, nuclear

energy, clean hydrocarbon technologies,

energy efficiency, energy storage and

distribution, automatization of energy

utilization, green constructions with

renewable energy, energy management,

energy policies and energy economy.

The Deadline for Submitting Proposals

is October 2, 2017

The selected papers will be published

in 5 different reputable journals. The

participating academics may submit

their abstracts to energy.submission@

emu.edu.tr by October 2, 2017. Further

EMU VII. Osman Maraşlı Memorial Tournament Completed

EMU VII. Osman Maraşlı Memorial Tournament CompletedThe only trio beach voleyball event in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) which was organized by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Sports Affairs Directorate, The VII. Osman Maraşlı Memorial Tournament had been completed between 22nd – 23rd July 2017 at EMU Beach Club.

A total of 40 matches had been played on 23rd July 2017 Sunday, where six teams remained in finals. EMU Sports Affairs representatives, lots of voleyball lovers and the late Osman Maraşlı’s family and friends were amongst the attenders of the event at EMU Beach Club. Cemal – Ecevit – Dougles under the category of trio men and Asya – Özkan under the category of duo mixed couples became champions of the tournament.

Winners Awarded

At the award ceremony; EMU Rector’s Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Arif Akkeleş, Sports Affairs Directorate Manager Cemal Konnolu, Turkish Cypriot Sports Writers Association President Çelen Oben, team coaches, the late Osman Maraşlı’s family members and tournament sponsors presented the cups and prize money awards to the teams that were successful after the final matches at EMU VII. Osman Maraşlı Memorial Tournament.

Who is Osman Maraşlı?

Known as one of the connoisseurs of Turkish Cypriot volleyball, Osman Maraşlı coached in EMU for 12 years. Maraşlı passed away due to an unfortunate heart attack in 2006.
