Williamstown Uniting Church Garden Club Eating what you grow was the topic for the March meeting when members welcomed Joy Noble and her husband to Williamstown Uniting Church Garden Club, who also brought samples of fresh and preserved produce. Joy told us that by planning our gardens well, we can have fresh fruit and vegetables all year round, and preserve the surplus. Firstly the soil needs good preparation eg if clay soil add compost and gypsum, if water sits on top, add water agent and for citrus potash and manganese is good, and all plants benefit from mulch and good feed at least twice a year. When shading plants, white shade cloth is best and when saving seeds, save only the best. Birthday greetings to Connie Hodgson, Leonie Tscharke, Lyn Mitchell, raffle winners were Robyn, Jean and John and flower competition winners were Kathy Tregeagle, Jean Randall, Betty Cooke and thanks to Joy for judging these. Next meeting, please note the date (our usual day is a public holiday) Monday April 13 th at Vadoulis Garden Centre when Milton will give us a talk on various plants, at 1pm. Members from Williamstown area wishing to car pool please meet at Uniting Church at 12.20pm, others meet at venue. We will buy afternoon tea there, and after business meeting, including raffle, and May details, members can wander and buy at leisure. As at all meetings visitors and new members always welcome, remember April 13 at 1pm. Submitted by Jean Randall Tel. 8524 6355

APRIL 2015
*PLEASE NOTE: WORSHIP PROGRAM SUBJECT TO CHANGE
LYNDOCH Branch At our Lyndoch branch meeting on 2 March, we held a
business meeting at which we discussed ways in which we can help Red Cross. Red Cross have several ways of fundraising: used stamps, old X-rays and collection of food for their community service programs. In the Lyndoch Post Office, there is a box in which you can deposit your used stamps. Red Cross collect old X-rays from which they can extract silver. We will be putting a box in the Lyndoch library in June for those so don't throw them away. At a later time, we will be arranging a food collection. Thank you to all those who donated to Red Cross Calling during the month of March. Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you to Ross Lagana for allowing us to collect outside the supermarket. Red Cross will be serving Devonshire teas from 11 am until 3 pm at the Art Exhibition in the Lyndoch Institute Hall on Saturday and Sunday, 18 and 19 April. Red Cross meetings are held on the first Monday of the month in the Council Chambers (behind the Library) at 2 pm. Anyone interested in Red Cross and their activities are invited to attend the meeting. The annual subscription is only $5. The programme for the next meeting on Monday, April 13 is Kym Michelmore who will be taking us on a Lyndoch History Walk. For more information phone Malinda on 8524 5353.

Barossa District Football and Netball Club Another season is upon us and players, coaches and committee members have been busy ensuring the Club is ready for its first round clash against Nuriootpa, at Lyndoch Oval on April 11. There have been some significant changes to the Committee, and it is pleasing to see some new faces take on new roles throughout the Club. Likewise, on both the football field and netball court we have been lucky enough to attract some new players, which will
further strengthen and bolster all of our grades. The exciting thing is that we have a terrific future with an increasing number of young players. This year we will be fielding 11 Football teams and 18 Netball teams, so there is plenty happening. It’s been great to see such great numbers out for training. Despite preparations for the season going well, and having some new blood welcomed at the Club, there is always room for a few more helpers.
We urgently need people interested in becoming Sports Trainers for the Club. If you have an interest in first aid, injury prevention and rehabilitation we will provide the necessary first aid and Level 1 Sports Trainer accreditation training. This is a lead in for those interested in career in health. If you already have suitable training/experience please contact Andrew Sutcliffe 0468 438 627. We are still looking for a team manager for the Reserves football team. Games this month are Nuriootpa at Lyndoch on April 11, Tanunda at Williamstown on April 18, bye on April 25th and Gawler Centrals away on May 2. Come and get involved with your local country sporting club, get fit, make new friends and enjoy playing these two great sports. The Club bar is open every Thursday night with meals available. It’s a great way to meet new people and become part of a great family sporting club.
Go those Dogs in 2015.
In loving memory of Ike Zerk The Committee, Volunteers, Team mates and Parents of the Barossa District Football and Netball Club wish to extend their sincere sympathy to the Zerk family on the sudden passing of Ike. Ike was a popular and much loved member of our Club, and the Williamstown and Lyndoch communities. Taken too soon, he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Jordan, Megan and Amaya at this difficult time.
It’s hard to forget someone who gave us all so much to remember. Ike, we will never forget your shining light.
4 IKE The Barossa District Football and Netball Club are hosting a fundraising event in Ike’s memory. The fundraiser, on April 11 at the Lyndoch Oval, will help raise much-needed funds for Heart Kids Australia. Show your support for this incredible foundation and help honour Ike’s memory by donating online
https://give.everydayhero.com/au/kirsty-22. To honour this much loved young man, his friends, teammates and members of the wider community are paying their respects on social media by uploading an image of their football and using the hashtag #putoutyourfootyforike. The response to this social media trend has been widespread across the entire, South Australian community.

It's been a massive 175 years since Lyndoch was settled as a
township. The Lyndoch Historical Society and Community
Committee are hoping to hold various events during the year but we
would also encourage all businesses, Schools, community groups
to perhaps consider any relevant anniversary's that you may have achieved and
consider promoting these in our 175th Birthday Calendar of events (Above).
