Course Development Process- Quality

Planning

Course is part of a comprehensive curriculum approach (Roadmap) that includes; •Topics•Competencies•Current climate (PCP, HCBS, NCI, Diversity) • Core resources

Stage #1 planning session is scheduled with expert focus group •Lived Experience•Policy•Direct Contact•Trainers, •Mid-level managers•FLSBrainstorm rough outline of course through a facilitated progress. •Topics/lessons•Preliminary objectives•Stories•Resources

Authoring & Editing

Author & managing editor- develop intro outline-• Headings• Bullets• Resources..Author works with managing editor to develop a comprehensive outline • Lesson/Obj• Topic by topic flow

Lead author incorporates feedback from managing editor (reviewer) until final approval to send to Editors/SME

Final Quality Check

Author completes an on-line quality check (alpha) problems are identified and fixed. They draft course announcement.

Lead author or internal editor or quality lead complete beta review of course.

Elsevier fixes problems from reviews.

Elsevier releases course and course announcement is sent to all learning administrators.

Fully revised courses are given a 6 month before removing to customize. QL archives script files.

Ongoing feedback and review schedules are implemented. –annual review.

Media Production

Lead media personnel reviews & coordinates a meeting of author, quality lead, and quality director to review media needs.

Media team develops voice clip collection, photos, graphics, video and other media needed for the course.

The course content and media is submitted to Elsevier for on-line development.

Course goes to Elsevier for on-line production. Narration is gathered at Elsevier. Elsevier staff produce the on-line version of the course.

Finalizing

Author works with managing editor to use SME editor comments to draft full course. Focus on:•Audience/role•Interactions/media•Reading level•Design standards

Copyedit is completed.•Style guides•Grammar•Spelling

Quality Lead places in FMP and completes final quality check (Quality Lead). Reviews for conventions and standards.

Course is submitted to media production staff and properly backed up.
