Is a law that covers: The rights and responsibilities of
parents and those legally caring for a child
The duties and procedures for organisations such as councils and Social Work Department and the Children’s Hearing System involved in promoting children’s welfare
Key Principles Each child has a right to be treated as an
individual Each child has a right to express their
views if they wish to do so Parents should normally be responsible for
the upbringing of their children and should share that responsibility
Each child has the right to protection from all forms of abuse, neglect and exploitation
There are a number of ideas in the act which influence many decisions and services provided for children and families
The welfare of the child is paramountNo Order PrincipleChildren’s views should be considered when decisions are made about their future
