BOOSTING BOTTOM-UP SOCIETAL TRANSFORMATION (BOOST)

It aims to enable grassroots social entrepreneurs to create the positive change they envision for their communities in Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia (will be replicated in other African and Latin American countries).

High unemployment, reduced freedom of expression and lack of financing opportunities prevent young people – particularly women and marginalized groups in remote areas – from developing their full potential.

We work through local partner organizations and collaborative spaces mainly in medium-sized towns. Boost supports young local social entrepreneurs who create employment for other young people. Local partners offer technical assistance, plus funding from Hivos to start or scale these enterprises. Our Main strategies are:

Digital media campaigns to solve challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in the region. Support program for co-working & collaborative spaces to help them become Business Development Support Orgs Accelerator program trajectory for start-ups and SMEs with high potential for job creation. Capacity building and knowledge enhancement program for angel investors.

BOOSTING BOTTOM-UP SOCIETAL TRANSFORMATION (BOOST)We have created 5000 jobs in 4 years with 4 million euros investment from SIDA, Dutch

Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Young women are changing their minds and starting their entreprises. Family days and day-care services have been key for them to over come social and cultural barriers (movility, conservative contexts, etc.). Local ownership has been key to include women.

We have started by need to continue developing future-proof jobs in tech, digital, media, green, and sustainable energy fields so youth employability programs lead young people to break gender roles, and co-design solutions to current problems (climate change).

Hubs are evolving to become entrepreneurial jobs spaces. Local actors are moving from “beneficiaries” to partners.

We have proven that youth and very local driven programs do work.
