FRAME FIXING METHODS

BRICK OR BLOCK TIES

WELDED STUD STRAPSWelded stud straps are the most common fixing methodfor plasterboard walls. This profile allows theplasterboard to slide in behind the frame, concealing anyrough edges. Simply screw fix through the timber orsteel stud into the provided welded straps spaced atapproximately 400 centres for a strong and rigid doorframe solution.

NEW GEN PROFILENew Gen frames are another option for plasterboardwalls. Flanges each side of the stud are used to screwfix the frame into the stud wall. Sheeting pockets eachside conceal the plasterboard edge. New Gen framesare the recommended option for pre-fabricated wallframes.

PARTITION PROFILEPartition profile frames are similar to the new gen profile, but without the sheeting pocket, this allows theplasterboard to finish flush with the frame architrave, andcan be used to create a shadowline detail (using a p50bead supplied by others). Parition profiles can also beused in Dincel, Speedpanel and other wall types.

Brick and block ties are supplied loose (in a pack of 10)with your door frame, and are designed to anchor yourdoor frame into a new masonry wall. They are used forframes being installed while the block/brick wall is beinglaid.

FRAME FIXING METHODS

COUNTERSUNK HOLESCountersunk holes are a formed hole to suit an M10dynabolt (or similar). They are usually located in thedoor stop, and are spaced at approximately 400mmcentres. Once installed, the holes can then be filled inand painted over. They are usually used in existingwalls (Retro-fit application).

COUNTERSUNK HOLES WITHTUBES

These are the same as a C/sunk hole, but with ametal tube welded behind. Tubes provide extrastability, and prevent any warping or bowing wheninstalling the dynabolts. They also act as a mortargaurd if the frames are to be backfilled.

COUNTERSUNK HOLES WITHTUBES & BRACING STRAPS

The addition of a bracing strap increases stabilityeven more, and provides extra strength and rigidityagainst bowing or twisting during installation. Onceagain, they are used when installing into existingwalls.

SPLIT DOOR FRAMESplit door frames, or two piece frames, are suppliedin two parts and are designed to wrap around anexisting wall opening, and conceal any rough edges. Each part comes with countersunk holes and bracingstraps for a quality installation.

HARDWARE PREPSThese are preparations we make in door frames to accommodate various types of hardware.

While some of these preps can be cut on site by security contractors, we recommend gettingthem cutout by CNC machinery during frame manufacture to save time, money, and produce abetter quality prep.

When ordering a door frame with hardware preps, please provide us with the make and modelnumber you are using, so we can meet your needs.

See below for the most common hardware components that we provide preps for.

BACK FILLINGFire Rated Door Frames

Under AS1905.1-2015 all fire rated frames are required to be backfilled.

Progressively fill the frame void as thewall is constructed.

(i.e. plaster wall), you can pack theframe void with sheet and plaster before

installing.

You will have to consider how you willaccess the frame void to fill it or pre-

back fill the frame void before installing itinto the opening.

It is important that the backfilling medium is tightly packed and fills all available airspace. Finally, the finished backfilled frame must be tightly sealed against the surrounding opening

using an approved fire rated sealant.

Special care should be taken when backfilling using wet mix backfill material. Ensure that it isfully cured before installation to prevent corrosion issues.

SURECAVFull Steel Cavity Sliding Units

Cavity Sliding Frames are very popular, especially insmall space living such as apartment buildings andstudent accommodation. However, feedback shows thatthe single biggest door related defect on constructionsites is bowing timber cavity slider units. Surefabidentified the need and developed a cavity sliding doorframe made completely from steel.
