    1. The main point of the research was to determine running trends in

NCAA Diision 1 !utdoor Trac" # $ield Championships from 1%%& to'(1). The *eld of research is math and statistics+ seeing as theresearcher of the pro,ect was from the Department of Mathematics andStatistics at Elon. The researcher used - and SAS software to analyethe data. ANC!/A models were also used and 1(" *nishing times werepredicted using these after the *rst lap and the ratio category. Theresearcher explained that the ratio was de*ned as the pace of the *rst'1 laps diided 0y the aerage pace of the last laps. Actual aerageswere tallied for each school and type of race+ split into men2s andwomen2s leagues. 3t was interesting to see how similar these resultswere compared to other things that we hae tested in class. 3t was also

interesting how the p4alue is used in this report as we use it in class.

'. The main point of the research was to determine how often statisticaleidence is used in undergraduate research at Elon. This was alsoadministered under the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. 3norder to o0tain the information and statistical eidence that would giesight into the research tendencies of other students+ the researchercreated an online surey for any S5-$ day participants 0etween '(1and '(1). They then gathered information on demographics+ research+etc. There were && responses that could 0e used and these weregrouped into seen academic disciplines according to ma,or. The study

showed that 67 of Elon undergraduates used statistics in theirresearch. The ones who did felt that it was inalua0le to their researchand the ones who didn2t felt strongly that it wouldn2t hae added anyalue. The presentation features a 0ox plot which was common in classand they also grouped the samples into groups ma"ing it a strati*edsample distri0ution.
