Water fl owing over large, impermeable surfaces and paved areas needs to be diverted quickly and directed away from walkways, roads, and building structures. Surface drainage removes excess water from these areas. There are two common types of open drainage systems—point and linear drainage.

Whatever the application, there is a RECYFIX trench drain system to meet your drainage requirements. Made of high grade PP (polypropylene), RECYFIX trench drains are extremely durable, lightweight and virtually unbreakable. They are highly chemical resistant and withstand frost, de-icing salt and UV radiation. The torsion resistant rib design ensures stability and secure anchoring to concrete. These pre-assembled, lightweight trench drain units are easy to handle and simple to install with pre-molded lateral and vertical connections, as well as tongue and groove ends to ensure perfect alignment. RECYFIX products are 100% recyclable and certifi ed to the International Standard EN 1433.

RECYFIX® NCExtremely stable and light weight for heavy-duty applicationsThis new product from HAURATON is the first channel made entirely of PP (polypropylene) with a nominal width up to 400mm. The increased cross-sectional area improves drainage through the trench drain, providing excellent hydraulic performance. The durable PP material resists breakage and withstands frost and salt. RECYFIX NC is extremely lightweight, allowing for easy handling and installation compared to similar concrete products. INSTALLATION GUIDEGeneral Notes Technical and installation information provided below are for guidance only. The contractor has the responsibility to determine the installation procedure and sequence on site. Armtec will provide a project-specific installation drawing. The Engineer of record has the responsibility to design, check and approve the foundation, expansion joints, steel reinforcement detail and other aspects regarding the installation of trench drains and associated structures.
The information below provides a basic overview regarding system installation. A more detailed installation guide is available on request. Please also refer to the animated installation videos available.
Transport & Unloading The trench drains are generally supplied to site as one-metre fully assembled units (grate fixed to the channel). The material is delivered on pallets banded and wrapped. Unloading should be carried out by fork-lift or other mechanical handling equipment available on site.
Handling & Storage We would advise that common sense is used when lifting and moving items, to avoid injury and damage. To avoid site damage, trench drain units and other accessories should not be dragged, thrown or dropped. Light-weight trench drains can be carried around site and positioned within the trench by hand. Mechanical handling equipment may be required for moving larger units. If lifting slings are used, these should be placed around the complete unit at a position that ensures the unit is levelled, to avoid any sliding action.
Trench drains, modular catch basins and accessories shall be stored upright on level, solid ground in a clean, dry and safe location to avoid damage on site. If units are to remain for a prolonged period on site, we advise they are stored in a sheltered location. Banded packs shall be stored one pallet high with nothing stacked on top.

Installation Preparation There are several methods that can be used to install a trench drain system, such as the ‘bedding method’ and the ‘top hung’ (hanging) method. The most common is usually the ‘bedding method’ which will be described briefly in this document. Before starting the installation, the contractor shall have in hand the correct Installation Drawing according to the model and size of the trench drain, the loading requirement and the surface finish.
Excavation Dig a trench with sufficient width and depth to ensure the minimum concrete encasement according to the Installation Drawing. Ensure the foundation is well compacted and that all unsuitable material is replaced by good fill material approved by the Engineer of record. Trench base shall have the same slope of the finish grade.
Pipe and channel connections Set the outlet for connecting the modular catch basin or last unit of the trench drain to the underground drainage pipe. Cut required holes in trench drain units, modular catch basins and other accessories for pipe connections. Depending on the configuration (including junctions, tees, etc), trench drain units may require trimming, cutting or removal of pre-formed knock-out sections to assist with connection between trench drains.
Pouring and foundation Depending on the installation method, trench drain system selected, load application and surface finish to be installed, it may be necessary to erect a form-work structure. Pour a semi-dry concrete levelling course on the compacted foundation and bed. Refer to the appropriate Installation Drawing for details relating to concrete specification and consistency.
Laying trench drain units All installations should start from the outlet position, laying units upstream. Place trench drain units onto the concrete bed and join them using the male-female (tongue and groove) joint design within the trench drain unit. Ensure the arrow marked on the channel body is pointing in the direction of flow. Install associated accessories (end caps, access boxes, etc.) where required.
Pouring concrete encasement Before installing the concrete haunch and surround, please ensure that grates are securely placed within trench drain units to prevent the deformation of these units by lateral pressure during the installation procedure. Timber bracing can also be placed within units. It is also recommended to fix a suitable strong construction tape to the top of grates to protect these from concrete contamination. Protective tape can be removed at the end of the installation procedure. Concrete should be placed evenly on both sides to avoid displacement of the trench drain. A concrete vibrator rod should be used to distribute the concrete uniformly around the channel.
Pavement finishingInstall the adjacent surface finish according to the Installation Drawing. Ensure finish grade of adjacent surfaces are permanently 3 to 5 mm higher than the top edge of the trench drain. When installing trench drain units within concrete pavements (slabs), where the concrete encasement around the trench drain extends to the top surface, it may be necessary to install longitudinal and transverse expansion joints to accommodate for lateral expansion of adjacent pavements. Crack control (shrinkage) joints may also be required within the top surface of the concrete encasement around the trench drain.
Final Inspection & Maintenance
• Grates may need to be removed to access the trench drain.• Flush trench drain run to check for pipe work blockages and unblock if necessary.• Make sure there is no debris left within the trench drain and ensure outlet pipes are clear.• Remove any debris from trash bucket within catch basins.• Replace the grates within the trench drain system. Ensure all the grates are securely fixed.• A more detailed operations and maintenance guide is available on request.

RECYFIX® GENERIC SPECIFICATION
This specification covers HAURATON RECYFIX® STANDARD / PRO / PLUS / NC* modular surface drainage system as supplied by ARMTEC.
All components and accessories within the scope of this system shall be obtained from the same manufacturer.
2.1 Trench Drain Body
2.2 Grates
A. The trench drain shall be tested for water-tightness and load-tested to A15kN / B125kN / C250kN / D400kN / E600kN* in accordance with the international standard EN 1433:2002.
3.1 Connection to the underground pipe network shall be via a modular catch basin / horizontal end cap outlet / vertical outlet / connection to a concrete manhole*.
3.2 The system shall be installed in compliance with manufacturer’s guidelines, and the work carried out as specified by the project engineer and in accordance with recognised good practice.

A. Grate type shall be Perforated / Slotted / Longitudinal Slotted / Mesh* design in Galvanised Steel / Ductile Iron GJS 500-7 / Glass-Fibre Polyamide (PA-GF)*, tested to load class A15kN / B125kN / C250kN / D400kN / E600kN* according to EN 1433:2002.
B. Grates shall be 500 mm long with mm* openings.
C. The grates shall be secured to channel edge-frame using a central locking bolt (one for each 500mm grating) / eight M8x30 bolts per meter length*.
B. The trench drain body shall be formed from high-grade polypropylene (PP) for strength, durability and superior chemical/corrosion resistance. PP compound material shall include 2% or more carbon black for enhanced UV stability and resistance.
C. Trench drain units shall be constant depth and supplied in 1.0m lengths; with a clear opening width of 100mm / 150mm / 200mm / 300mm / 400mm*. The trench drain shall have a ‘U-Shaped‘ profile for efficient hydraulics and self-cleaning properties.
D. The trench drain body shall incorporate ribbing and concrete anchors for added structural integrity, with pre-formed sections for flexible connection to underground pipe-work and services.
E. The trench drain body shall include an integral polypropylene edge for structural rigidity, durability, corrosion resistance and aesthetics.
F. Trench drain units shall incorporate male-female end profiles for simple and precise connection.
