One supplier. Many solutions.
Industry knowledge
The effective use of additives in a coating extends far beyond the product itself. Knowledge and understanding of the coating, its application, a sense of the market and focus on the customer are all essential. This is what we mean by problem solving, and it leads to the development of mean-ingful solutions to satisfy your needs.
Technical support
Specialised coating labs, in Europe, Asia and in the U.S. – fully equipped to produce and apply small quantities of coatings – dedicated to helping our customers, dealing with technical enquiries and delivering solutions.
Quality products
From product development to production and distribution, we carefully control all processes to ensure the quality of our products and help our customers gain a competitive edge.
Best solution
Each type of coating – can, coil, powder, architectural or industrial – has a specific set of performance requirements. Lubrizol specialises in providing just the right product in just the right amount to turn an ordinary coating into an extraordinary coating – at optimal cost around the globe.
On-time delivery
Product availability and on-time delivery are vital to any business. To answer these needs Lubrizol has a worldwide network of distribution points. This comprehensive network provides immediate access to customer service personnel.

Frequently asked questions
Why are waxes used? For improvement and optimisation of surface properties as for example:
- scratch resistance
- abrasion resistance
- slip
- antiblocking
- matting
How much wax is used? For matting, an addition rate of 1 - 5% is usually recommended. To improve mar and scratch resistance or control slip, between 0.2 and 1.0% should be used.
How are waxes incorporated?
The wax should be incorporated using high shear mixers or dissolvers, any additional micronisation not being necessary! The use of wax dispersions is recommended as a dust-free alternative, facilitating an easy dispersion even under critical circumstances.
Which wax types should be used?
Several factors play important roles in the selection of a wax, including chemical composition, the particle size and form, application method, dry film thickness and curing mechanism. It is not possible to generalise on the type of wax that should be used.
How do waxes work in a coating?
The interaction of waxes can be explained via two models. Coatings with higher film thickness and baking enamels usually show a floating effect of the wax towards the coating surface. The overlay effect shows wax particles piled on top of one another up to the coatings surface. This effect can be observed in thin film thicknesses and in coating films which shrink very little or not at all during the curing process. In practice, both effects will probably appear at the same time.
