A very warm welcome to all those joining us for this festival of rugby. It will be wonderful to have so many boys, teachers, family and friends at our Kingsway playing fields over the next two days. Teams from King's College Junior School (KCJS) have taken part in this tournament on many occasions and we are delighted to have the opportunity to be the hosts in 2019. I know that our Games teachers, ground staff and caterers have worked hard to ensure that it is a successful and enjoyable occasion.

I have been fortunate to work in schools which value the virtues of competition, teamwork and sportsmanship. We attach genuine importance to these qualities at KCJS and, in the words of our Head of Games, Mr McCluskey, "We love watching the boys play." I hope that you all have a great time cheering on your boys and that they play with skill, determination and unquenchable spirit.

Warm wishes

GERARD SILVERLOCKHEADMASTER

We are delighted to welcome players, parents, teachers, and all spectators to the 2019 Surrey Junior Schools Rugby Festival here at Kingsway. It is a great honour for King’s College School to take on this event, and we hope that it is a chance for all players to demonstrate their skill, ability, and determination throughout the course of the festival. I hope that everyone will be incredibly supportive of all teams, and that you enjoy the action and our wonderful grounds. Many thanks to all that have been involved in the running of this event, from the grounds to the catering team – without you, it simply could not happen.

WELCOME FROM THE SSRFU SECRETARY

It is a pleasure, as Secretary of Surrey Schools RFU to welcome you all to King’s College School today.

I would like to thank and express my appreciation for our match officials, coaches, medical support, volunteers, parents and teachers who help to make this day so special.

King’s College School have done a fantastic job in setting this festival going and we are extremely grateful for their excellent hosting and administering of this event.

Finally, may I remind all the spectators present of the Rugby Football Unions core values, and ask that you show respect for our match officials and applaud good play on all sides.

A number of the participating schools today will have pledged to the Old Mutual Wealth Kids First. This is England Rugby’s approach to rugby for 6-13 year olds. It gives children the opportunity to prosper by fostering an environment for having fun, learning and building confidence.

This means helping children develop and learn the game at their own pace, and making sure they have plenty of fun while playing.

I hope you enjoy the day and we again thank King’s College School for this year’s festival.
