The Sussex Village Board approved a reorganization of positionswithin the Public Works and Parks departments Aug. 13.
Administrator Jeremy Smith explained that the reorganization willinvolve aligning park activities under the parks and recreation directorwith a park foreman while an assistant director of public works for oper-ations would be created to oversee work in the village's streets and thestormwater, water and wastewater utilities.
As part of the reorganization, there would be two public works fore-men and one parks foreman position.
Smith said the changes will save $23,000 annually from the reor-ganization while an additional $2,700 savings annually would be cre-
ated by the changes."There's significant savings, additional workforce and more empha-sis on the parks and parks maintenance as part of this deal," Smith said.
Smith said the organization discussion started following the retire-ment of an employee. He said any time a position opens within the vil-lage, administration reviews operations to determine more effectiveways to provide services. Village President Greg Goetz furtherexplained that a candidate who had accepted a parks superintendentposition withdrew his acceptance, which led to the village review ofoperations.
In a separate matter, the board approved a proposal combining theSCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems used by thewater and wastewater utilities into one system.
"Combining to one system will allow the village to reduce the num-ber of licenses, resulting in a savings each time we upgrade the soft-ware (approximately every five years). The dialers, used to notify thestaff of alarms, for both the Water and Wastewater Utility will be com-bined into one dialer," Assistant Administrator Melissa Weiss said in a

Lets face it. The Great Recession put a kink in manyAmericans retirement plans. Combine that financial blowwith the general uncertainty regarding Medicare and futurecost of private health insurance.
As a result, more boomers are staying the workforce longer. So what does this mean forndividuals? Along with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, its important that boomers routinely getheir hearing checked-and that they address any hearing loss so it doesnt undermine their efforts onhe job or their quality of life.
Maturing workers should be getting their hearing checked. And if there is hearing loss theyshould discuss with their hearing healthcare provider whether or not hearing aids could help.
When people with even mild hearing loss use hearing aids, they improve their jobperformance, increase their earning potential, enhance their communication skills and improve theirprofessional relationships.
I urge anyone planning to stay in the workforce longer to take that first most critical step tooptimizing your hearing health and enhancing your chances for career success by taking a hearingest. Your hearing health and continued job success are within your control.
Boomers benefit fromhearing aids as they stayin the workforce longer

Everyone knows they need to do it, butthe most important thing with exercise is actu-ally getting started and making it a habit.
The good news is there are many ways tomake fitness a part of ones daily routine, and the positives are plentiful.
Marilyn Ranney, a clinical exercise phys-
iologist and certified wellness coach with theWorkforce Health division of Froedtert andThe Medical College of Wisconsin, empha-sized that exercise is a must, not a maybe.
Exercise is essential, she said. It is anecessary component of leading a healthylifestyle.
Seconded Dan Zeroth, recreation super-visor with the Menomonee Falls CommunityEducation & Recreation Department,Physical activity is an important part of stay-ing fit no matter what age you are.
And the options are endless, he said.Aside from just the structured activities,
theres also sports leagues and many passiveforms of recreation out there, said Zeroth. There are so many different ways to get fit.
Some things to keep in mind: Consult with a physician: One should
always begin any new vigorous exercise pro-gram by checking in with the doctor, saidRanney. Make sure to get the okay beforeyou start anything new, she said.
Set some goals: Edward Pipp, ownerof Preferred Fitness in Germantown, said itsimportant to set goals both long term andshort term, but be realistic and dont over-whelm yourself.
The federal governments PhysicalActivity Guidelines for Americans recom-mend two and a half hours of exercise perweek for the average healthy adult to main-tain ones weight and between three and fivehours per week for weight loss. This, saidRanney, could mean a brisk walk orstrength-training or a combination of things, and you should try to spread that out over aweeks time.
Make it Me Time: Schedule yourwork-out time keep it, said Pipp. Mark timeoff on your calendar, he said. This is yourpersonal time so schedule it as you wouldother things you enjoy.
All the while keep your eyes on the prize,he said.
Find your reason to workout, Pippadvised. This is the best way to stick to aworkout routine.
Dont overdo it: Individuals oftenassume the more exercise, the better, but thisis the wrong approach for a variety of rea-sons, explained Pipp.
Slow and consistent is the most impor-tant factor in achieving desired results in get-ting started, especially if someone has notexercised in awhile, he said. Doing toomuch too soon or performing intense exer-cises on a daily basis will have deleteriouseffects, such as muscle/tendon strains, loss oflean tissue, and fitness-level plateaus.
Pipp said one should start with threedays a week, with a combination of cardio, light weight training and stretching.
Look beyond cardio: Strength trainingis a very important aspect of fitness, saidRanney, especially since we lose up to ahalf pound of muscle each year after the age
of 40.This could mean lifting w
out on a balancing ball or dfocused activities such as yogsaid.
You should try to hit allcle groups (1-3 sets of 10-12days each week, said Ranne

Drs. Richard and Bruce
Dear Dr. Winter, Mother is 96 years old and shestarted wearing dentures at about 60. She has no lowerbone left! She has tried denture paste but it is useless.
She eats the paste, gets sick to her stomach and whenshe leaves it out her lower denture bounces like abasketball when trying to eat. She can only drink herfood now and is not a candidate for any surgery. Anysuggestions?
Dear L, I am sorry for your mothers problems. Iwould need to see her existing denture to evaluate thebite, the extensions of the denture acrylic and make sureit is fabricated properly to optimize her situation. Whenpeople have no bone left a soft silicone liner may helpto increase the hold of the lower denture and providemore comfort. We do this by first testing it in tissueconditioner (like a soft band-aid) to see if her biting andchewing can be improved prior to making her a new setof dentures. That way she can see if we can help herbefore undergoing the expense of a new set of dentures.Lastly, I have successfully used mini-implants tostabilize dentures in patients with very little bone as wecan place these in as little as 10 mm of bone. Thesewould greatly help keep the dentures in place and
prevent movement that interferes with her chewing! You can see videos of this on our website.
Dear Dr. Winter, I am a male that has suffered frombulimia for many years since high school wrestlingmade me constantly drop weight for my matches. I amafraid I have permanently damaged my teeth and myfront teeth are chipping and thin. What do you suggest Ido to prevent further tooth destruction and reverse thedamage I have done? I am free from purging for overtwo years and now its time to fix myself.
Dear Steve, I applaud you for your courageousbattle with a most troubling and debilitating illness. Ialso appreciate bringing this illness to the attention offellow men, as this disease doesnt just affect women.Bulimia or binging and purging are a subset of Anorexiaand the acid reflux effects of purging can cause damage
to enamel of teeth. I would need tenamel is gone to discuss treatmeevaluate your remaining enamelsensitivity and your bite to determcrowns, orthodontics or perhaconservative fillings. It is important
major problem of acid erosion is thatand get thin, the opposing teeth supeup onto the worn area. So treating babout the thinning worn teeth but ththe opposing teeth. You can see extreatment on www.winterdental
